[It's not a Rumah] Guitar Hero: Metallica ... ?

Make it stop...
Earlier this year, Activision unveiled Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the first installment in its billion-dollar rhythm series based entirely on a band. No sooner had the publisher announced the deal than speculation began to spread about what the second band-based Guitar Hero game would be. Along with Van Halen, the most mentioned group was Metallica, the legendary San Francisco Bay Area heavy-metal quartet.
Time to ride the royalty lightning!
Now, talk of Guitar Hero: Metallica is no longer a case of wishful thinking or idle speculation--it's fact. When sifting through an SEC filing of Activision's over the weekend, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Edward Woo--associate of the highly visible Michael Pachter--uncovered a gem in the section where the Santa Monica, California-based publisher discussed its upcoming game slate.
"In fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms," the company said in its report. Activision's fiscal year ends on March 31, 2009, which means that the game will likely follow the holiday release of Guitar Hero: World Tour (nee Guitar Hero 4).
Guitar Hero: Metallica will be the first time a game based on the multiplatinum-selling band--which has become only slightly less famous for its antipiracy efforts as its musical achievements--has made it to retail. However, it is the second such game to be announced. In 2003, Vivendi Games--which will soon merge with Activision--struck a deal to create a vehicular combat game inspired by Metallica's music. Unconfirmed reports stated that the project had been quietly canceled in 2005.

Apparently Activision is not familiar with the concept of flooding the market. This is just like what happened with Tony Hawk. The old standby got run into the ground by pointless sequels that added nothing truly groundbreaking or innovative, people lost interest, and the new guy (Skate or Rock Band) actually did something new and interesting. The Aerosmith and rumored Metallica games could have easily been done as DLC for Guitar Hero III if Activision wasn't so greedy. At least GH:World Tour adds something significant to the game, even if it's not completely original.

Now I would love a Kiss dedicated game but I know a lot of people would bitch about that one just as much.
Queen would have a huge and diverse catalog to choose from and the sellouts Brian May and Roger Taylor would probably jump at it. But I guess they would have to get John Deacon and Freddie's estate to agree to it as well.
The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are the holy grails but I seriously doubt they would ever happen.
MY ultimate request for a dedicated artist: Jeff Lynne. You could have his groups as well as his distinctive production which would include his solo stuff, ELO, The Move, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney, The Traveling Wilburys, Roy Orbison, etc.

I wasn't interested in Aerosmith, but I am definitely interested in Metallica. The chorus for Creeping Death is worth the price of the disc alone.

Metallica were pretty big in their day and I bought a lot of their CDs. But is the average guitar hero fan really into Metallic so much that they'd want to buy an entire Metallica themed game (and presumably similar music). Although even Aerosmith seemed fishy to me.

I also bought the three pack for RB and rarely play them even though they are great songs.

For all I care, Activision can keep snapping up shitty and/or dinosaur rock bands.
I'm surprised (unless I'm mistaken) that there hasn't been any U2 stuff or even more Stones stuff. (We've had what, like 3-4 songs?)

I think if the Metallica game had been announced to come out first I would have actually been a bit more excited, but if this is true, that they will be releasing it right after 4 comes out, than they are seriously overkilling this franchise big time.

I am all for as many Guitar Hero/Rock Band games as possible.
The comparisons to Tony Hawk have no merit. They are two totally different concepts.
Releases of Guitar Hero/Rock Band are unique in that they are just more songs. This is nothing more than a bunch of DLC put on a disc at a cheaper price for consumers than it would be to download off the marketplace.
I will take as many songs as I possibly can get my hands on. Keep them coming...

I don't care for the Madden game series (sports games are not my "cup of tea"), but for those gamers who do, then the yearly release is a good idea for them. Why not have a new GH game released every year (or on a more regular basis)?

Guy #1: Let's play some GH.
Guy #2: Sure! Let's play Cult of Personality, that song is phenomenal!
Guy# 2: Wow. That was a lot of fun, not let's play Hangar 18.
Guy# 1: Okay, that's on another disc. (swaps disc)
Guy# 2: Is there any Metallica?
Guy# 1: Yeah, but it's on the disc we just swapped out. Hold on. (swaps disc again)
Rock Band makes it pretty easy, as it's all DLC and you can pick and choose what songs you want and you never have to swap discs. With disc-based stuff, it's cool if you like over half the songs, but if there's only a couple you really care for, you'd much rather have it as DLC.

I 100% agree with you on this point. I am still pissed I have to have a PS2 and another goofy ass plastic guitar for Ratt, Quiet Riot, Jimi Hendrix, and a few others...BUT, if this is the only (or main) irritation, I don't think this con outweighs all the benefits.
When I go on GH/RB sessions, we just play out a disc and go to the next disc. But if this inconvenience is the result of having a ton more songs/disks of GH/RB, I am all about it.
If I could get my entire itunes library on 20 disks, so be it. I want as many GH/RB as possible. And as long as Rock Revolution is functional (it is compatible with my Les Paul), I am going to buy that too for Pantera and others.
I want as many songs as possible.

Even though I am coming off as an optomist, I am not so sure we would get The Cult...or other type of "off-center" mainstream bands...without these numerous releases. I know there are a few doubles from Rock Band, but the non-Aerosmith songs are very, very strong. And I am sure the non-Metallica songs will have a harder edge and we have evidence on how much of that genre we have received so far through the other games and resulting DLC.
