I've been playing hacked ROMs of the original SMB and Super Mario World for years. Depending on the creator, they can be a lot of fun. It's a cool concept to bring to the console.

I finally had some free time so I picked up the game pad and played some Mario 3D World. Changed my mind about selling the Wii U.

And with that in mind I grabbed MK8 from Best Buy and also got the gamers club unlocked for $60. Brought the game down to $47.99 and I still got the free download of Pikmin 3. That's as good of a deal as I can think of.
