Do you plan on buying the next Xbox or PlayStation 4? (Pre E3 Edition)

I'm looking forward to seeing what the new Xbox can do but for some of you guys to commit to the new Xbox without knowing any confirmed information on it is a bit silly. The main reason I chose a PS3 over the 360 was because it had a blu ray drive in it and during that time a decent bd player was a nice chunk of change by itself. My wife also uses the video chat function to communicate with her family (mis suegros) in Guatemala at least once a week. I will buy both consoles if they both can do some nice things and I'm excited to know that the Xbox will have a bd drive as having to swap discs or have a multiple disc game on a newer console was a bit disappointing.

Yep, both. New Xbox on release date. PS4 in the next 2 years. Just to make sure that the Blu-ray player works fine.

If I do, it'll be really late, probably close to the next generation. I put in a lot of time into my 360 but not as much as my X-Box and I haven't really played my PS3. Just don't have the time or as much desire any more.

What information do we need to commit to it? I am definitely getting a next gen console and considering I barely played my PS3 the XBOX is the easy choice for me. Can't think of any info. they could come out with that would make me not want to buy the next XBOX.

I'll pick up both for sure. The next XBox more than likely on release day and the PS4 within the first year or so once a couple console exclusives come out.

I'll do the same thing I did this generation: get both when I can get them for cheap.

I never bought a PS3 this generation because I didn't want to spend the free cash, and I didn't spend enough time playing games to justify a third major console purchase. I also bought the Wii which also garnered plenty of dust. By default, I would lean towards an Xbox again, but I can't say that's a definite thing. It is starting to rub me the wrong way that if my Gold subscription happens to lapse I can't use my Netflix.

If the next Xbox can play BDs, then I will likely get that. But I will first need to clear my back log of Xbox and PS3 games before I move forward which will take me some time. So I am in no hurry to upgrade. I waited a year before upgrading from the original Xbox to the 360.
If the new Xbox plays BDs and is backwards compatible and transfers all my DLC purchases and all my RB instruments can be used on it...then I will likely buy it much earlier.

I'm not sure yet, but right now I'd say no. I've got 30 years worth of games, including a large number in my backlog. There are probably a ton of good games that I've never played for the systems that I already own, plus a lot of good games that I haven't played in many years.
The gaming industry hasn't had anything game-changing since the move from 2D to 3D. Motion controls don't qualify, since those are just worse ways to control the same games. Based on what we know about the next gen so far, I don't think I'd be missing out on any breakthroughs by not moving on to the new consoles.
If I do eventually get a next-gen console, it won't be for a few years, when prices have dropped (games especially) and hardware has been fine-tuned for reliability.

My PS3 and Xbox both died last year so it was quite costly to replace them both. I have lost considerable faith in Sony as well. They announce exciting hardware like the Vita and then just leave it to rot in a drought of exciting titles. I don't give a rip about Vita and PS4 compability either.

I would've bought a PS4 at launch, but no backwards compatibility is a deal breaker. There's a slew of PS3 titles in the upcoming months that I want to purchase (The Last of Us, Kingdom Hearts HD, etc.) that will be released in the eve of the PS4, but will simply not work on the new console requiring me to keep both a PS3 and a PS4 in the same house. I might jump on a PS4 in the future when the price drops, but it's no wonder why Sony's credibility has taken a hit within the past decade. It's bullshit that a "cheap" console like the WiiU can give me backwards compatibility with its previous generation, but a more expensive piece of hardware can't do the same.
Microsoft had growing pains with the 360 like the heat sink issue that caused the RROD. However, those issues became fixed with the second revision of the hardware. What Sony failed to do with the PS3, Microsoft did right with the 360. Their backwards computability wasn't the best (as it was all software based), but you know what? It worked. Their online experience still had a price tag with it, but it gave a premium experience that worked like it should.
Depending how Microsoft's announcement in April goes, I'll probably purchase it at launch. It becomes a definite pre-order if Microsoft announces Blu-ray and backwards compatibility.

I'm going to wait to see how long these newer consoles last. I do not want to have another RROD and YLOD.

I'm not sure; it depends on "a lot of things"
Still way too many unknowns at this point to say one way the other.

Ditto for me as well. Maybe after a few years when I get a 4k TV but don't think I'll need it before then. Playstation games just are not any better than what the Xbox has to offer. Might as well stick to one ecosystem.

I don't know yet. I bought the 360 on launch day, and the PS3 was well after launch (April 2008). I'll be interested to see what is announced/confirmed at E3 this year.

I'll probably end up buying both consoles eventually, but right now I'm in no hurry to upgrade from what we already have (pending MS's announcement, of course). The lack of BC on the PS4 certainly put a damper on any interest I may have had for it, so that'll wait until a price drop or some spectacular game hits that really grabs my interest.

I'll eventually get the PS4, but it'll likely be several years. I have a huge backlog already, plus a bunch of games I haven't even purchased yet.
