Thinking about it, what would be really awesome if the instrument controllers are backwards compatible and the older games like Beatles Rock Band as well. Then you could play Beatles again with the newer instruments.

As far as I know, you cannot play any of the older RB titles with the instruments for RB4 on the Xbox One.

Not being able to play Beatles rock band and the other older RB titles all comes down to licensing issues. They are never going to be forward compatible.

The rumor right now is a less powerful Series X will be priced at $200.

My prediction is that this will be a streaming only set top box. Access games through their X-Cloud service. No need for massive hard drive space. MS will offer a subscription service similar to PS Now.

There's very little I am certain of, but I seriously doubt that MS is about to announce a third subscription service for the Xbox.

That makes more sense lol. I guess you would just need to sub to game pass ultimate to use the streaming box. Or you have the option to log into your xbox account and digital purchases would be able to stream to xcloud ?

This is from the "consider the source" file. I went to GameStop today and was talking to the store manager about next gen systems. I asked him when did he think pre-orders, release date and pricing would begin? He "looked" at his phone saying he was reading an email GameStop corporate sent him the other day. He said, nothing official, but he thinks within the next two weeks.

Sounds like good stuff to me.

I didn't expect otherwise, but I'm glad to be able to bring my newly-bought Elite 2 controller over.

Part of me wishes they'd revisit the poorly-announced and never-fleshed-out Family/friend Sharing thing from Xbox One. Obviously, it never came to be, but I could see it being a benefit, finally, in this new generation. Something like being able to share access to a title for a limited time to one friend at a time. That sort of thing.

Merging xCloud into Game Pass makes perfect sense. Glad to see it confirmed. Game Pass is something I was extremely skeptical about, and didn't touch beyond a short trial or two, until it went to "Ultimate." Now, it's a no-brainer for me. I understand and respect that I don't get to "own" the titles, and I appreciate people who avoid it for that reason, but for my gaming habits, and that of my family, it's been a top-tier subscription in our household. Recently, I played all three Metro games because of GP; games I probably never would have tried otherwise, and at least 1 & 2 have become personal favorites. Literally no complaints here. If they could do anything better, it would be to give full "deluxe" access (DLCs, etc.) for their in-house studios. It's weird that I technically "bought" DLC for Forza Horizon 4, even though I don't own the game itself (well... I DO own the disc... I just never have to use it because of GP ). Though I think they've done this for some titles, so it might be more common going forward.

Their commitment and execution of backwards compatibility is admirable, IMO. It's very digital-focused, which reasonably gives people concern that their BC catalog (or entire catalog, for that matter) could disappear at any time, but I just don't see that playing out that way. To be clear, I don't think their version of BC is perfect by any means, but in regard to how the other big competitors are doing it, there's just no comparison. The other options are fine, but they're not to the same level at all.

Agree about Game Pass. I think it’s a great and big bang for your buck service. I think about the only improvement I would like to see as well is DLC. I enjoyed playing Minecraft Dungeons as part of the service and was hoping the new Jungle level DLC would be included but it was not to be. Even if they waited to include the DLC a month after its release I would be happy.

You can get a decent 4k TV for like 300 bucks. That should be your priority over getting an Xbox Series X.
