XBOX upgrading hard drive?

so if i'm getting an 8TB hard drive for my XBOX, already have 2TB which is almost full, would it make sense to transfer all the 2TB stuff to the 8 or would that take too long?

i can just plug in the 2TB to the 8TB since the 8 has USB ports. i don't think i will ever use or need the 6TB leftover, but just thought for simplicity and hardware clutter sake it might be better to transfer.

which is better/more ideal? and if i just plug in the 2TB to the 8TB will my XBOX then recognize the 3 storage drives (internal and 2 external)?

thanks in advance.

Re: XBOX upgrading hard drive?

The X1 will read both HDs if you connect both. I have two 4TB HDs connected right now and they're both almost full.

As for whether you should transfer. If you don't think you'll use up the full 8TB, sure. A you stated it'll be less clutter and you can use the 2TB for something else.

Why did you get an 8TB if you didn't think you'd use it all?

edit: I reread your post. I don't know if the X1 will read the 2tb through the 8tb.

Really, I was told it would. It’s not a big deal, I can hook 2TB to back but I had something already filling it, but can just plug that device into 8TB. I got the 8 just as a future safety measure since I only buy digital now and don’t want to keep upgrading when eventually get Series X. Thanks Gideon.

I'm going to ask the obvious question: if you already bought the drive, why not just try it out?

My suspicion is that daisy chaining the drives as you describe won't work because of the proprietary Xbox file system but unless someone else here has done that exact same thing with your exact drive I'm not sure anyone knows for sure. You will have to copy the games (I think) from the xbox itself ,you can't just copy it on a computer.

I didn’t get yet. Should get tomorrow. Just wondering best setup. I guess, 8TB in back and leave the 2TB on side seems best.

Re: XBOX upgrading hard drive?

One last question...if I just plug 8TB into back, I don’t have to take 2TB out of side at all, right? Just plug in 8, let it format and have to do nothing with 2 right? When 8 formats it’s not like it’ll touch anything on 2 or internal, right? Think I got that down now. Thanks guys!!
