Best/most fun game you’ve played, last 10 years? (2011-2021)
Before last week, hands down would gave been DOOM (2016). That game was a fucking blast. Finished twice. But, as much fun and frustrations I had with that game, I think original Darksiders (Warmastered Edition, if that makes a difference) takes the prize now. It has everything I love in games except FPS. Wonderful game and such an addicting, fun experience. And to think 3 more games to go (2, 3, Genesis) whenever I finish this. Only 6 game hours in, but I think more invested than that tbh. But, it has just been so much fun. Most since DOOM and then RDR1 before that. Borderlands 1 also top 5.
So in the past 10 years, even if game came out 20 years ago and you’re just getting to play, what has been the all-around best game experience?

Fun? I'm playing RDR2 right now which is pretty damn impressive. If I have to think about it I'd probably say Skyrim. Love those single player adventure games with tons of exploration. I put hundreds of hours into it.

Skyrim is a single player adventure game? I always thought it was one of the biggie typical RPGs?

Skyrim
Borderlands 2
Dragon's Dogma
Fallout New Vegas
Horizon: Zero Dawn
I like these kinds of RPGs, apparently.

For me... it was The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii, 2011). Loved playing every minute of that game... until I got to that twit, Ghirahim, and I couldn't beat him.
Other than that, it's a toss up between Spider-Man (PS4, 2018) and Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4, 2017). I spent so much time just exploring or swinging... it was amazing.
If I were to limit it to a series, I have loved collecting and playing all of the Skylanders games: Spyro's Adventures (Wii, 2011), Giants (Wii, 2012), Trap Team (WiiU, 2014), Super Chargers (Wii/WiiU/PS4, 2015), and Imaginators (WiiU/PS4, 2016). I think I have about 85% of the characters and that's a lot of moves and lives. The backward compatibility of the characters was a huge selling point for me. The games were not every hard, but (for the most part) the gimmicks got better as they went along - except for Imaginators (the Build-a-Character part never appealed to me).

I'd also have to go with Skyrim. I remember even buying it for the PS4 after already owning the PS3 version, starting the whole thing all over again, and enjoying it just as much the second time through (and I still have not finished it, but there's just so much to do and so many distractions, but that is just the best "open-world" game I've ever played; so many nights, I was like, okay, I'm just going to play for a couple of hours...only to find myself still at it 8 hours later, still hooked). The storylines are all over the place, but there's tons of unique territories/areas, tons of different ways you can shape your character's attributes, it's just a stunning achievement, and I've even considered buying it for the Switch, which I just got, just to experience it all over again...You really have to grind it out but once you get to a certain point, it's just pure pleasure...
Only other games that I would say come close to my faves would be RDR1 + RDR2, GTAV, and surprisingly Until Dawn, just cause I thought it was so unique and well-written and I played it through several times just to see the different endings and whatnot (plus, it was a pretty quick play-through...could probably even do in one sitting if one were so inclined, but I did it in usually 4-5 days of playing a few hours each day/night)...

Might be a cliche answer, but it's hard to deny how many hours I've sunk into Skyrim. Brilliant escapism.
Like mndtrp, I'm also a sucker for the third-person hack-'n-slash RPGs, like Dragon's Dogma and Kingdoms of Amalur.
Fallout New Vegas was released outside the thread's date window, but I think it's outstanding as well if we're just talking in rough decades.
Alas, they're all vying for second. There's just so much to do in Skyrim and so much variety that it epitomizes "fun".

Easily Witcher 3. I'm not a big fan of many role playing games, even action role playing. The only reason I started it was I was bored on deployment and bought a PS4 off a guy leaving the ship who included the game. I almost quit within the first 20 minutes because I failed the first mission I came across. Stuck it out and enjoyed all 90 hours I put into it. So much so that when I bought a Switch, it was one of the first games I bought for the system. Put another 115 hours into it playing it and the DLC, which is also some of the greatest DLC ever released in my opinion. Hearts of Stone has one of the best video game stories of all time and Blood and Wine is an amazing bow to put an end to the game.
The game made me go and read the books and of course watch the show (love it). If I do buy a Steam Deck it will probably be the first game I purchase as well as the first two since I've never played them (I hear they a are a bit different so my expectations are tempered).

Battletech, Dead Cells, Battlefield 4, and Divinity Original Sin 2.
I’ve put around 500-600 hours into these games combined, and I know that I could launch any of them today and still have a great time with them.

I still haven’t finished B2. Started twice. Once before B3, but B3 came, moved on to that, got the Jack part spoiled, finished B3, but never have been back to B2. I don’t know what it is either. I’ve finished B1 twice.

Thanks for saying that, I didn't realize it was out on the PS4, too. I'll keep it in mind when I go looking for another game to pick up.

I don't really play games all that much but for me it was the online play of Mario Tennis Aces for the Switch. I've always been a sucker for a sports game with competitive play mechanics between a diverse roster of characters.
