OOP, eh? I guess I got lucky not being able to unload it for $4.99 a couple years back. I got it on clearance at Target for about $6. Time to try again.

made my final trip of the sale and grabbed Constantine. I can't even remember all the titles I got during this sale vs other stores in the last week. Maybe I will try to figure it out later tonight.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

I went out in style. On my very first trade-in, they gave me the coupon back. In my area, the coupon by itself is worthless. But on my Friday trade-in, they gave me the trade-in slip back, but kept the coupon. So I paired up my extra coupon and trade-in slip, and went for one final purchase. I finally scored Cloverfield with the $9.99 sticker, so got it for $4.99. Overall, I had a great haul. About 20 trade-ins, including 2 sampler discs, and got rid of a lot of crappy DVD's. Only spent $3 on DVD's purchased solely to trade-in...

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Well, I loved this sale. I already owned most of the $9.99 movies, but no where else can DVD movies like Nomad: the Warrior and Full Contact fetch you a $5 coupon.

From my days of shredding Columbia House, I have a ton of DVDs still waiting to find their new home at BB during the next sale (whenever that will be).

Maybe next time, the new crop of $9.99 movies available wont match whats already in my archive and I can hit the sale as hard as many of you did.

Happy hauls.

Yeah, I didn't think I'd ever be able to unload that gifted copy of Left Behind.

First, flix said BD and not DVD, and second, I'm guessing flix was referring to BB's prices specifically.

$5 for a BD is a good deal, as far as I'm concerned. I don't see BDs that low anywhere else.

Agreed. I guess I was just spoiled by this deal, now paying $10 or more for a BD seems excessive.

I only used the deal once, 50/50 for $12.99. Couldn't be happier.

That's because it is, unless it is Disney/Pixar film or some MAJOR release I refuse to pay over $10 anymore for anything. I have plenty in my collection that I can wait on say purchasing for example 50/50 until it hits probaly $8 during Black Friday in about 10 months for example. Only other exception would be a Criterion, which unless used good luck getting for less than say $13 even with the great B&N sale.

Between this sale and the Blockbuster one of 5/$20 I've added like 50 titles alone at that price since this summer. And obviously lots of the great prices of $5 or less during Black Friday added another 10 from that. If you are not patient though and want to spend $10 or more than by all means go ahead of course.

With the 5/20 sale I probably added more titles from that than the past several years combined. The downside is that a generous portion of those titles were just because they were $4 not because they were a great movie

I absolutely understand how you feel. It seems the cheaper I am able to get Blu Ray discs for, the less I want to spend for them overall in general. A few months ago, I was happy to find discs for $10. Now, being able to get them for only $5, has left me feeling a bit spoiled. It's hard not to pass up getting stuff at that price point.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

There are some things I can't wait on. I'll get them the day of release, or wait for them to hit $15 or so. I'm a sucker for bad horror movies. But yeah, it's easy to get spoiled on this sale.

I stopped at BB the last day and got:

Stripes 4.75 (corrected)
Dead Snow 6.99
Three Amigos 7.99 (sew, sew like the wind!)
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil 14.99

...which brings my total to 24. Looking forward to the next one!

Did I see someone say that they are just trashing the DVDs that were traded in? I should've asked them, but didn't bother.

Take the MSRP of Real Steel for an example. A fun movie, and worth owning IMHO - but the MSRP was $39.99 (2-disc) and $44.99 (3-disc). Really!? Even on sale it was still over $20. Lucky for me, with the $5 mfr coupon, the $5 trade-in coupon, and a BestBuy screw up, I got it for $12.99.

It's just kind of sad that we have to jump through hoops to buy the movies we want at a price we want. Meanwhile, I'm sitting on my list of 30-ish other titles I'm waiting to buy as soon as the price drops to a reasonable level.

I saw that posted here too.

At one of the Best Buy's, they had a specially marked DVD recycle bin (about the size of a 32 gallon garbage bin with a slot on top that they dropped the discs/cases I turned into them.

I remember just 2 years ago, some speculating how they wish they could find BD's in the $5 bin at Walmart. Now there are BDs at Target for 5.00 regular price, and sales like this that enable you to get alot of titles for $5. I bet in a few years, even $5 will seem too much for some of these catalog titles. I bought alot (50 titles), but I didn't pay more than $5 for any one except Scarface steel and Dances with Wolves (though I was really tempted by Moulin Rouge). I know that many of the $10+ titles will be cheaper down the road, either on BF or some other deal (like Blockbuster 3/25). I have alot of patience and a backlog of more movies than I can watch in a lifetime to tide me over until then.

EDIT: can't believe I found 3 upgrade and save coupons in a stack of receipts. Probably leftovers from a cashier's attempt to appease me when I stood at CS for an hour while they figured out how to apply the promotion. 3 nickel DVDs wasted!!

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Very YMMV but my local store was allowing us to trade in dvds today and they just marked 5 bucks off each blu ray. I had no idea they were doing it until a guy in front of me had three dvds in his hand and they did it for him. Needless to say I set my movies down and went home and grabbed some dvds and returned to get 5 blu rays.

I got:
The Thing (2011) 14.99+tax
To Kill A Mockingbird 12.99+tax
Transformers 3D 9.99+tax (After 10 off manufacturer's and the 5 dollar dvd trade.)
Red State 7.99+tax
Polar Express 3D 14.99+tax

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012

Yeah, this deal has made me re-think buying any BD's over $10 now. $8 or less seems about right. I know I'll never stick to that, but that's my goal (excluding 3D titles, Disney, and Criterion, of course). Even more, I don't think I will ever buy another DVD, if the title is available on BD. I'll just wait until the BD is cheap enough. Even $3 Big Lots DVD's don't seem as worth it anymore (not counting TV seasons, of course). I can't remember the last time I perused the $5 bin at WM. I won't pay 5 bucks for a DVD anymore...

Lucky bastard! Strange that Red State was 7.99 after the coupon, since it is 11.99 online. You probably coulda had them PM BB.com to save another buck.
