Forgive me for being lazy and not reading this whole thread which probably answers my question.
Is this deal that you can upgrade and save for only the same title as the DVD you're bringing? i.e. If I bring in a DVD version of The Dark Knight, can I only save $5 on The Dark Knight blu ray, or can I save $5 on any blu ray ($9.99 and up)?

No Annie Hall, Manhattan, Rebecca, Spellbound, Notorious, Barry Lyndon, Lolita or even Lost In Translation. Oh Best Buy could have had so much of my money.

I was surprised at the empty pockets on the shelves on a friday afternoon. Maybe they'll restock tonight for the weekend but having poor inventory will not help their financial woes. Especially now that Subway bought them out
A little inside joke for those that saw the Chuck finale tonight

Picked out my DVDs I'm going to bring tomorrow. 2 of them are duplicate copies I have, 1 of them is a title I've had for years and never watched, and 2 of them are dollar DVDs I got as stocking stuffers years back. Hope they take them all.

You should be golden. Just pick out the BDs you want first and then bring them to CS with your DVDs to save yourself some time. Although at my local store they now also do it at regular registers after teaching more than a select few employees how to do it. Hopefully this means if they do it in the future it should go smoothly from the start.

Traded a wrapped screener copy of some stupid DVD I got from a friend a few years ago called "Who's your monkey?"
I also had a $10 RZ certificate.
Got the BD set of the HBO miniseries Mildred Piece. Only costed me $19.99+tax after the coupon and RZ certificate.

I don't know how this plays out nationwide, but here in the Chicago area and suburbs where I'm visiting there seems to be very very few titles from before the 1980's on the shelves. There are some older films via Criterion here and there, but I'm not seeing anything else anymore, not even best sellers like the DIRTY HARRY movies. This is a trend I've been noticing for awhile now, so it's not just because of the sale.
Anyway, picked up CAPE FEAR, but PALE RIDER was only available at stores that were too far to drive, where the gas cost would negate the savings. That title is now considered "online only," so congrats to anyone who found it.

I just found out about this sale a couple of days ago. So I missed out on some good deals. Today, I traded in 3 DVDs and got these Blu-Rays.
Halloween (1978)
Good Will Hunting

Thanks for the heads up on looking out for the new Mirimax releases. First BB I stopped at scored The English Patient for 9.99, Shakespeare in Love for 4.99, Cold Mountain for 4.99!!!! Weird, they only had one copy of each out...no Frida or Piano.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012
Ran into a slight snag, partly my own fault, purchasing movies today with the deal.
First time to the counter, I had 5 movies that were $9.99 or over (or so I thought) and 1 at $7.99. It happens that the original Mortal Kombat is currently $7.99, but I had seen a shelf tag for $9.99 ... so I had to get another movie, removing Mortal Kombat from my purchase.
Next time, I had 5 movies that were definitely more than $9.99 plus a $7.99. One of the movies didn't take anything off (Ong Bak 3 $12.99 on sale), and one (Beverly Hills Cop $9.99) took EVERYTHING off. There was a note about "Buy 2 for the Price of 1". This would have been the equivalent of turning in 5 movies and getting $25 off, but I would have been throwing 2 of the DVDs away, since only 3 were being applied for the deal ... the other 2 were using a different deal.
So, I go back and grab 3 more $9.99 or greater movies (I brought backups this time). This time everything rings out properly ... I get $5 off 5 movies (and one of them was Billy Elliot, which I had the $3 coupon) PLUS I got the Buy 2 for the Price of 1 deal (buying Ong Bak 3 for full sale price of $12.99 and getting BHC for free).
The Customer Service rep was about the best I have ever interfaced with.
In all, I think I bought about 37 or so blu-rays with the trade-in deal this month.
Thank you so much! I have really been wanting this movie, but had never seen it on sale ... now its on sale (not labeled as on sale) AND I was able to get another $5 off with the trade in deal.

Went in to get Blitz today. It took awhile to find, ended up having to get an employee to find it in the back. It was labeled at $19.99 but rang up at $9.99 before coupon fine ($4.99 after coupon). I found the same cashier as last week and he gave me my coupon back again.
Wish they had more titles in stock I wanted.

Picked up Tangled 3D for $24.99 and Green Hornet 3D for $14.99 today. Even though the website said it was in stock, I couldn't find "10 Things I Hate About You".

Last hurrah : I went back and picked up Stripes, There's Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber Unrated, American Beauty, Glory, Good Will Hunting and Heat ($7.99, so not eligible for the $5 off). Did a straight-up upgrade on my old DVD copies of Mary, Stripes, American Beauty and Heat.
I had to get the CS rep to increase the price of Stripes and Glory since they rang up at $9.75 instead of the $9.99 sales price they were listed at on the shelf stickers

I couldn't believe they took in a $1 DVD (literally says $1 on the cover) with a very slim case of a no name movie I had lying around. The number of blu rays (and $9.99 ones at that) looked to be slacking - they'll probably restock tomorrow once the sale is up. I got Groundhog Day and The Breakfast Club with the upgrade and save for $9.99 each Also saw No Country For Old Men in the 7.99 bin, so I picked that up as well.

As much as I liked this sale, I'm glad it's about over. There were a few BD's I left on the shelf simply because I spent so much. Was able to (finally) snag Van Helsing, Beverly Hills Cop and Ghost (the first 2 were restocks, because I know they weren't there last time I was there). I haven't counted, but I know I got at least 30-40 in this sale alone.

If you looked at bestbuy.com Manhattan was NOT going to be available in store. Annie Hall never made it to ANY stores. I had saved a coupon for it, but now Amazon gets my money. The amount of stock these stores carry is ridiculous beyond belief. So much empty space on the shelves, I wonder why they even bother. The music section is a joke too. I didn't think so before but after some of the things that I've had to go through this past year, I think they are headed for the graveyard.
