Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

The first Omnibus volume of Peter David's historic run on The Hulk is now available!!!

Beginning an incredible collection of Peter David's character-redefining, 130-plus-issue Hulk run - including his complete collaboration with artist superstar-in-the-making Todd McFarlane! The Hulk, now a gray-skinned goliath, is angrier than ever - leaping into action against horrors from the grave, from the stars and from the house next door! Featuring the revitalization of one of the Hulk's longtime foes, the Leader - and a new life for the Hulk in Las Vegas! Say hello to Joe Fixit as casino conclaves mesh with interdimensional intrigue! Plus, classic clashes with X-Factor, Wolverine, Iron Man, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and Werewolf by Night - and vile villains including Grey Gargoyle, Doctor Doom and the Abomination!
Collecting INCREDIBLE HULK (1968) #328 and #331-368, WEB OF SPIDER-MAN (1985) #44, FANTASTIC FOUR (1961) #320 and material from MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS (1988) #26 and #45.

Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

^Damn. Might have to get that! I loved that run and the art in it.

I just got three new omnibuses in my hot little hands yesterday: The Amazing Spider-Man Volume 4, Spider-Man by John Byrne & Classic X-Men. Was given Marvel Universe by John Byrne Volume 2 for X-mas so I am looking pretty good right now.

I really want the Savage Sword of Conan and regular Conan omnibuses but damn it gets expensive and they take up a lot of space. I have them all digital but there is something addictive about these omnibus releases!

I love Peter David’s Hulk. Haven’t re-read it, but it was a lynchpin of my monthly buying for years, sometimes the only book that kept me in mainstream Marvel. But I might try to skip this one. I own all the singles and can’t imagine selling them. Own it all digitally too. And no more room!

Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

I just got Thor by Walt Simonson over the weekend from IST.

The big news and one I'm getting is the reprint of Wolverine Vol.1 in April! It's been OOP for 10 years.

Hopefully, Vol 2 is released in the future.

Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

Near Mint Condition broke the news that Marvel will reprint these at the end of 2020

Uncanny X-men Vol 2
Uncanny X-Men Vol 3
X-Men Vol 1
X-Men Vol 2
Infinity Gauntlet
New Warriors Vol 1

It's awesome news for everyone that missed out on these the 1st time. The secondary market is crazy for some of these, so glad they are coming back.

Marvel is Conan is also releasing an omnibus for the Dark Horse period. Im sure they will print it in the Marvel Omnibus style.

Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

X-Men vol.1! Nice! That's the only one from that list I don't have. I think the original printing came out in 2006. Pretty sure that is the longest gap between reprintings of any marvel omnibus.

I'm surprised new warriors is coming back. That one could be had on clearance for 25 bucks for a looong time before it went oop. Is that series getting rebooted? I can't imagine why they'd bother reprinting.

Mother effer. It's not X-Men (silver age series) Vols. 1 & 2 that are being reprinted, it's X-Men by Claremont and Lee Vols. 1 & 2, both of which I already have.

Very excited for Infinity Gauntlet as I started collecting omnibuses after that went OOP.

5. Moon Knight
6. Marvel Horror Lives Again
7. Incredible Hulk by Peter David Vol 2
8. Savage Sword of Conan - The Original Marvel Years Vol 4
9. Infinity Crusade
10. Conan the Barbarian - The Original Marvel Years Vol 5
11. Marvel Cosmic Universe by Donny Cates Vol 1
12. Kull
13. Thunderbolts
14. New Mutants
15. X-Men Vol 4

No way they'll be as great at the Colossal Conan books Dark Horse put out - the first one, especially, is insane - not just bigger than any Omnibus page-wise, but just bigger sized tomes - a pain in the ass, sure, but serves the material really well!

I only have the one on the left - the other two literally sold out within hours of going on sale and were triple the price the day after!

Have you read the silver age material before? Especially the vol. 2 issues before the Adams run?

I feel kind of stupid for not selling my sealed X-Men omnibuses before this announcement. Marvel had gone so long without reprinting them.

If it's any consolation, the early printings have better/thicker paper and are preferable to the re-prints - usually, sometimes the re-prints have better spines and the pages are stitched in addition to glued.

Yes. They're mostly terrible. But I have every X-Men omnibus starting with vol.2 all the way through Age of Apocalypse and I'd like to complete the set.

I stopped getting the Conan and Savage Sword omniboo after one volume each because of space issues, but I might get sucked into the Kull.

So Marvel FINALLY reprinted silver age X-Men vol.1 thirteen years after it first published. I have been collecting X-Men omnibuses since about 2011 (when vol.1 was already out of print and very expensive) and have every single volume released through Age of Apocalypse. I was so excited to finally complete the set and I got the book only to discover that Marvel changed the spine art on its omnibuses.

I'm not one of these super anal types who will refuse to buy a book because the spine doesn't match, but I'm pretty sure just about every X-Men omnibus has been reprinted at least once (and in some cases more than once) in the 11 years I've been waiting for this particular book. It just feels like a giant kick in the crotch from Marvel. I get it when they change the paper or the binding or when they switched from cloth covers to laminated covers. I may not always like it, but I understand the economic realities of the business. However, changing the spine art doesn't save them money, and these books rarely make it to bookstores, so shelf appeal isn't really a concern either. I don't get it. Why rock the boat?

Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

I still have the original printing...sealed in plastic. Never got around to opening it, lol. Like you, I loathe how both Marvel and DC love changing the trade dress on reprints unless something has been altered or corrected.

The annoying thing is that Marvel hasn't changed the trade dress on the omnibuses in 16 years! I mean sure, if they felt like they needed to change them then they had to start somewhere, but if this book (the only old reprint I needed!) had just come out a month or two ago, it would match all my others. Ugh. Of course there's still Uncanny vol. 5 and maybe one other book at some point down the road to finish off the 80's X-Men, so maybe I will have a couple more to match it someday.

*Edit* Apparently this change started last spring with Defenders vol.1, but for some reason the Wolverine vol.2 book that I bought in August had the old spine art. Stupid.

Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

I'm in the process of moving. I've really slowed down by omnibus buying in the past 6 or so years but even so, it's so painful. Thinking of getting rid of a bunch of my non omnibus tpbs, especially ones like the Byrne visionaries that I have in omnibus form, but other than giving it away or pulping them I have no idea what to do. Do libraries take this stuff?

When I pared down my collection I sold the ones that still had some value on eBay and donated the rest to Goodwill.

They retain their value pretty well - you should be able to get around double cover-price for out of print ones, and not too far below cover for those still in print, depending on condition.

Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

I was complaining before about the Spider-Man omnibuses not truly going through and including all appearances or hoping they would intersect Peter Parker Spectacular and Web Of SM into these but now it appears they are going to at least release them in separate volumes eventually.

PPTSSM Volume 1 Omnibus got announced for a September 27, 2022 release date:
Amazon.com: The Spectacular Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1 (Spectacular Spider-man Omnibus, 1): 9781302947408: Conway, Gerry, Shooter, Jim, Goodwin, Archie, Mantlo, Bill, Buscema, Sal, Mooney, Jim, Elias, Lee, Springer, Frank: Books Amazon.com: The Spectacular Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1 (Spectacular Spider-man Omnibus, 1): 9781302947408: Conway, Gerry, Shooter, Jim, Goodwin, Archie, Mantlo, Bill, Buscema, Sal, Mooney, Jim, Elias, Lee, Springer, Frank: Books

Re: Upcoming Marvel Omnibus Releases

I've already got all 4 Marvel Masterworks of Spectacular Spider-Man. I'm just glad to be able to get this title in HC collections. (Like many other titles, at a certain point in the 80's I don't find the comics as good, so I'd be good with Epic Collections, but for Spectacular that would be AFTER Gerry Conway's run.)
