You still need to be careful if you find something that qualifies for free shipping before applying the coupon. I found if it takes the total below $20 with the coupon and your members discount it will add a shipping charge to the total. On several occasions I had to switch to a lesser value coupon on an item I wanted to order to keep from paying more money because a shipping charged got tacked on.

Those looking to add filler items for free shipping might want to check out the selection of B&N Classics titles. Many are 50% off before member discount, bringing the prices down to about $3 or so on several of them.

Yeah... you are right. The way the Barnes and Noble coupons seem to work is that the perecentage is multiplied by the "online price" and that amount represents your discount. If you are a member, the amount of the previously calculated discount is then deducted from the lower "member" price. This works out in your favor since applying the coupon to the higher online price yields a greater discount than applying it to the lower member price.

During the 50%-off coupon promotion the coupon discount was calculated based on the item's list price. Nowadays it's calculated based on the item's on-line price. In store it's calculated based on the item's member-price.

Just a heads up for a nice deal. I got an email coupon for 40% off of a book from B&N when using your Mastercard. I used this to purchase the Rolling Stone Cover to Cover First 40 Years digital archive dvd-rom set link for $31.25 after my B&N member discount (list is $125, and it is $62.50 during their post-holiday sale). For some reason, this qualifies as a book. Works for me!!!

Here's something that might be new on here, and I apologize if I missed it -

5% off with free shipping (no minimum!)

100% credit (from my end) goes to the user 'djd2000' at fatwallet.com in a discussion thread about the 40% off B&N coupon. Yeah, I found it on fatwallet so why not bring it here, I mean, it's already on there so the cat is way out of the bag!

The link says it is for 'Visa' users, but it doesn't restrict anything checking out. Still gave me 5% off, free shipping, + I still applied 40% off using Mastercard allowing me to order a $15 book for $8.71 shipped.

Fantastic deal indeed. Have I known this earlier, I would have bought this using the 40% off coupon instead book pre order I've made.

Since this particular coupon does not require a membership you could always create a new B&N account to use it on another order. As long as you pay with a Mastercard it should work.

Thanks for the cover-to-cover suggestion. I went with the Playboy one instead of the Rolling Stones. If I had an extra mastercard I would have went for the Rolling Stones too in a separate order. These come with a coffee table book so that is why it is included in the "book only" restriction of the coupon.

Thanks for mentioning this coupon again. I've been so focused on DVDs lately, I forgot that there were some good, expensive books out there. I ended up knocking "Nightmare USA: The Untold Story of the Exploitation Independents" from $79.95 down to $34.62 with the AAA and the 40% off coupon. Then I had a $25 giftcard I hadn't ever used, so the book cost less than $10 out of pocket.

Much better use of the GC than I probably would have gotten otherwise. And I got in just under the wire!

The Buy Two Get One Free sale is active. Speaking as someone who's seen this sale several times, it might be a good idea to place your order as soon as possible. B&N has a tendency to eliminate discounts completely, or at the very least significantly, when the sale is in effect.

Good advice. From the discussion in the other thread, the price increases are already taking effect.

Haven't seen any new ones this week. Unfortunately they don't issue the 40% coupons that often.

Hopefully, they will re-issue another high discount book coupon. But truth be told, I think the last 40% book discount was the most generous book discount they have ever issued.
