1) I have received two DVD orders from DVD Planet in the last few weeks (one single disk and one double disk set), and both arrived in nice cardboard boxes.
2) Regarding the quotation controversy above -- I think it would take a person of intelligence and sufficient education to even comprehend the reference in the first place. I interpreted the post as a gentle satire of message #164... JMHO!

Looks like all of the December Criterions are up a dollar or more - Two Lane Blacktop is $27.96. I suppose I shouldn't bitch about a dollar or two, but combined with the increased requirements for coupons, this puts a slight damper on DVD Planet's awesomeness with regard to Criterion prices.

The price increases have definitely put a damper on my enthusiasm (and spending) with them.
On the other hand - I just received a shipment from them (2 boxed sets) well-packed in a sturdy box so at least the shipping situation isn't entirely bleak.

The Criterion banner on the DVDPlanet's main page says "Up to 35% Off!" It is true that in the past virtually all of the Criterion releases were 35% off, but they do not guarantee that they always be discounted by that percentage.

That "up to" part is recent, I believe. I'm nearly positive it's always said 35% off in the past. It's strange that these apparently more expensive Criterion prices roughly coincide with the launch of Criterion's own official store. I wonder if the increase was at the company's behest or perhaps Criterion raised the price they sell to other companies like DVD Planet.

I guarantee you DVDPlanet's sales have been dropping due to the yellow shipping envelope fiasco, and rather than see the causal relationship and fix the problem, they decided to increase the price of their Criterion titles and pre-orders (no longer guaranteed to be 30% off). Hey Mark, another swing and a miss!
