I noticed that too. I'm going to wait until tomorrow when it's supposed to be active and see what happens.

The coupon is working.
It is a small number of select CD and DVD and Blu sets (the only Blus are Planet Earth - Attenborough (not such a great deal, it's been much cheaper) and the Springsteen Promise set - it is the Blu, even though it doesn't say; the DVD set is $20 less; the UPC code matches my set (a great deal on that one).
Here's the list:

Funny that at both Borders and B&N the blu set is a much better price than the DVD set.

Just a note that the printed coupon does not say anything about "Select Box sets" and should work in-store on whatever.

another coupon code from the borders twitter feed
w.bordersmedia.com/coup/20101230cddvd50sm.html
The twitter message doesn't indicate it, but the coupon appears to only work on the previously listed items.
For the record, earlier listed code: BMN6146C
new code: BHA8240H

50% off List Price on Select Music & Video - Limit 2

I wish I had been wrong, but it turns out I was right. Well, at least we should be able to use it in-store on anything...

In store the coupon works fine. I just picked up the Vincent Price MGM Scream Legends Boxed set for $19 and change. They gave me the extra "Plus" members discount, even though I'm just a regular rewards member- I'm not complaining though.

There was a wall street journal story today saying borders is having trouble paying suppliers and seeking new financing. Publishers are going unpaid in payment delay. I'd use up those gift cards and borders bucks to be safe.
Story is called "Borders delays payments to publishers" in 12/31 wall street journal.

Mostly because the delayed payment to vendors talk was being thrown around as early as Spring of this year.

The WSJ also reported the concern is that if Borders can't refinance its debt that they will have a liquidity shortfall in the first quarter of 2011. Borders says there is no assurance that they will be successful.

Having seen these brick and mortar stores downsize their inventory this past year, as a way to reduce costs, I suspect we will see store closings and layoffs as the next steps to try and remain viable.
Remember - Amazon has no brick and mortar stores to carry on their back, and with the rise of these e-readers, etc., I am afraid that these chains are going the way of the horse and buggy. They all sell the same stuff, so whoever can find the cheapest way to do that will survive.
If they do file for bankruptcy it will be interesting to see if they liquidate or if they try to reorganize and keep some of their business going.

An article from today's New York Times regarding the Borders financial situation:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/04/bu...ders.html?_r=1
It doesn't sound very promising. Maybe they could sell some of their brick and mortar locations - they are ordinarily located in good locations. Their online operations could be sold to some entity that continues to use the Borders name. (That's what happened with Tower.com and with Circuit City, though I must say that neither of those websites is very competitive anymore, IMO.)

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly
The problem is that Borders.com runs on MSRP or 'List Price', just as the store does. B&N stores run on MSRP/List, but the website has different pricing. That is what borders needs to do to be competitive. When their partnership with Amazon for the web portion of the business ended, it's competitive run ended. I've always thought the physical stores were better than B&N, but their web business sucked. And it's definitely the case...
Either way, I hope they'll figure this out and get it together. I used all but $5 of my last gift card combined with a coupon and borders bucks to get a pretty good deal on the Golgo13 Anime Collection 2.

I prefer the B&N stores. Borders used to have a better selection but that ended when they had the big inventory purge a couple of years ago. B&N now has the better selection, the better prices, and the better cafe. The new Borders Rewards Plus membership is slightly better than the B&N membership because you get the discount online and also receive Borders Bucks after so many dollars spent. Unfortunately, the web business does suck. The prices are high so the 10% off doesn't help. The only time I now buy from Borders is with the coupons or when I find a good deal advertised. Borders now offers price matching of a printed ad so along with the Plus discount I can get advertised items 10% less.

It's why I don't even bother shopping at Borders anymore. Their stock is a joke and they charge up the wazoo with their prices and why only put a 50% off coupon for just two days only is also baffling to me.

Seems like they're playing a paper game. "Hey, look, our prices are high here and here" sort of thing so they can get bought out and become someone else's problem.
