Re: November Criterion Sale

Have received shipping confirmations for both orders I placed during the sale. Got confirmation for Black Orpheus and Paths of Glory BDs on Monday and the BBS BD box set on Wednesday. For some strange reason, I had a projected ship date of 12/9 for the BBS set, but it shipped out this week as one would expect.

Probably won't receive them until middle of next week, as Economy free shipping = (not so) Smart Mail. But they're on their way...BBS for $64, woo-hoo!

Re: November Criterion Sale

Out of all the discs I've ordered Paths of Glory was the only delayed one. It's in the mail, so it should be here by Monday or Tuesday. I ordered 6 discs from them and not one was cancelled.

Re: November Criterion Sale

A few more of my items shipped last night, including the BBS set

But I'm still waiting on 5 more titles. 2 still have estimated ship dates of the 23rd... one for the 24th... and 2 for the 26th. I'm assuming nothing will be shipped until Monday, since you Americans are celebrating the death of turkeys or something today.

Re: November Criterion Sale

I just got my copy of The Night of the Hunter (B-R) in the mail... anyone else notice that the housing for the DVD holder is a bit bigger that what holds the DVD? Idk, it just seems too large for the inner piece.

Re: November Criterion Sale

I left a note for the UPS guy to leave my ship to home order of The Thin Red Line. Everyone in my building does this for shipments when unable to be home and there are never any problems. However, someone decided to steal my package and I can't find it.

It's not the $16 I spent, it's the principle and the mystery of why someone would steal a small package meant for me. Very unsettling. Not sure if I want to receive any packages here anymore.

Re: November Criterion Sale

At least it's not $277!
After four weeks of waiting, my shipment of 13 items didn't arrive. So, I contacted Canada Post and Canadian Customs, as BN.com instructed. Neither were of any help, because they could not do anything without a proper tracking number; the one BN.com gave me doesn't work for ANY courier service, it's just their own order tracking or something. So, I gave BN.com an ultimatum: Find my package, or re-send. If they re-sent and both arrived, I'd return one of them at my expense.

Instead, BN.com tells me they've refunded my PayPal account (they haven't!), and that I'm free to re-order the items and they'll gracefully waive the shipping cost. That's great, except it means I'd be paying $440 instead of $277, since the sale is now over.

What a mess. I'm very concerned that the rest of my shipments from my newer orders are never going to arrive either. After ordering a total of $564 worth of merchandise, I've received one Blu-ray.

Yeah tell me about their customer support. The peoples on the phones are very helpful and I had pleasant conversations with them but the actual 'barnes and noble service' was far from being that good.

I received a damaged item on the 15th, call them the day after, said I'd be contacted soon (before wednesday), called again on thurssday to be sure they had my contacts information right and all. Received an email a week after telling me to call because they had not enough information. Then I called again and proposed that they refund me half the price of the item, because I did not wanted to wait forever to return the item and all which they seemed to have agreed because I received a refund yesterday (on the 30th) 9.85 $ on a 17 $ something item.

But yeah their tracking is worthless, I asked about it on the phone and she couldn't use it herself, all she knew is that it was sent by canada post. I know they use a broker which then put a canada post tracking on the shipment because I was able to track back all my shipments back to the broker company (Frontier distributing).

I emailed criterion if they could send me a replacement case which they did promptly and free of charge !

That's a horrible solution that barnes and noble proposed to you. They are responsible for not giving a proper tracking number to their customers. Your order could never have been shipped and you wouldn't know it, that's how useless this practice of giving a non-working tracking number is. You have been very patient with them, all my items arrived 10-12 days after being shipped and you waited 4 weeks. They should have resent everything and by express shipping free of charge. If they would at least have a tracking number to back them up that would be another situation but they can't even proved it was even sent .

If only amazon.ca had done this sale .... !!!

I suggest you contact Paypal and file a claim for the amount of the undelivered items. Be sure to include any email from BN.com that says they refunded your money. If you haven't yet received the Paypal refund that should jog it loose.

Of course, the Criterion sale will have been a bust for you. But at least you should recover your money.

Re: November Criterion Sale

I received the "your attention is required" email for the Von Sternberg set.

"Unfortunately, the merchandise listed below has been further delayed.
We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to fulfill your order soon. To keep your order open, we must have your approval for a 30-Day Order Extension. Unfortunately, if we don't get approval from you for the extension within the next 24 hours, we'll have to cancel this part of your order"

24 hours? That's pathetic. Why do I get the feeling they want me to cancel. Anyway...I saw the email and logged in and made the "I still want it" click in plenty of time but I could have easily missed it.

Yeah I hate that too, what about not cancelling everything you have not shipped in time like you predicted until I decide otherwise.

Instead it's : we were suppose to ship it a few days ago but we did not, we will cancel your order if you don't tell us not to in 24hours. I know we sent a previous email saying that we should have it under 1-5 days, please do not consider this email.

That was my experience, too. They're generally "nice" people, but they just have horrible nonsensical policies.

But yeah their tracking is worthless, I asked about it on the phone and she couldn't use it herself, all she knew is that it was sent by canada post. Funny you mention Frontier. I contacted them after my 1-item package arrived. I figured they'd have a record of the second shipment, if anyone, since they're the ones who slapped the Canada Post label on the first package. They were very courteous, and responded to me within an hour (!!), but had no information. They had a record of the first one, but nothing for the second one. Meaning, they never got the "go-ahead" from B&N.

I emailed criterion if they could send me a replacement case which they did promptly and free of charge !
Good to know! I'm concerned about my BBC set (which is out in the wild...). Hopefully they'll replace the packaging for that one if I have an issue.

This is what bothers me the most. When placing the order, as a Canadian, you're given two options: Standard or Express. Since the shipment is crossing the border, and since B&N charges 3.99 PLUS 1.99 per item for shipping/handling/etc. (that's right... if I order one item, I'd have to pay $5.98 for "Standard" shipping) and since they also provide a tracking number when the package is shipped, it was dumb of me to assume that the item was actually traceable, right? In the emails I got, the CSRs mentioned that the items couldn't be tracked because of the shipping method, but, as you mentioned, and as I discovered from the one Blu-ray I got, there is indeed a tracking number that's functional. I'm just shocked that they seem to have no understanding of their own shipping methods.

The refund appeared this afternoon. I guess it takes PayPal 24 hours to process it.

not a total bust. I was lucky enough to spend a few days in DFW during the sale (but couldn't get items shipped to my address there, since there was no guarantee they'd arrive before I left), so I picked up a bunch of titles then. Had I known B&N.com would have been such a disaster for me, I would have just bought every title I wanted in DFW and shipped them back to myself (with a tracking number!)

When I participated in this sale in November 2009, I had absolutely no problems. All FOUR of my shipments arrived. I think the longest I waited was 2 weeks.

3 days after telling them I still wanted it, I received shipping confirmation. Interesting...

Exactly. That's the process put in place for orders they don't want to fulfill. They're not stupid yet they treat us like we are. 24 hours nonsense ... what if someone is traveling or on vacation? They want to cancel that order there should be no confusion about that.

Today I received a shipment notice for the Von Sternberg set. I'm glad I was able to approve that "long" delay within 24 hours.

Re: November Criterion Sale

On the 16th of November I too got one of those "cancel" or "not-cancel" emails for my PATHS OF GLORY blu-ray set. As of today, they still haven't shipped it!!!! I just emailed customer service. This is a first for me with their slow service. I got all my prior dvds without issue.

Re: November Criterion Sale

Has anyone ever had success actually receiving an item from B&N that is noted "Usually available in 1-2 weeks"?

I ordered The Ingmar Bergman Trilogy back in mid-November and have still yet to receive it. I did receive an e-mail about a month ago saying that it is still not available (but was expected to be soon) and asked if I would like to cancel the item or grant a 30-day extension. I selected that I could wait another 30 days but I seriously wonder if the set will ever become available.

I'd really like to see these films before Spring.

So... ahem...
This box showed up at my office the other day... roughly two months after they shipped...
All of the items were inside (one damaged...)

B&N processed the refund on December 1st.

What would you do?

That happened to my mother-in-law with an Amazon shipment. She's so honest that she contacted them to return the duplicates. They were so surprised that she would do so, that they told her just to keep them.

If you didn't pay for them, then they obviously are not yours. If you happen to still want them then call up B&N and offer to do some wheeling and dealing; pay for the ones you want and see what they suggest about the others.
Karma (and conscience) applies.
A similar thing happened to me during a series of buys from DVDPlanet. They sent me duplicates of a slew of orders I made. After at least a month of not hearing from them, I called and made arrangements to send back at least 17 titles they shipped duplicates to me. They were grateful but no other deals were offered.
