Didn't those of you that had this happen use the PSN of the open account that got closed on the new account application?

^That's possible. I used a mail-in offer that may have had a PSN that was the same as the account they closed. But I didn't record it so I can't be sure.

It would make some sense that Columbia House is sending the best 7:2 offers to some of us who have inactive accounts, to entice us to rejoin. But trying to draw conclusions about CH tactics with just a handful of data points is tantamount to guessing.

Is there a reason why 2 of my credit cards are coming up as invalid when i try to pay my balance? All the info is correct (triple checked it) so i don't see what the problem is. Also emailed them and i'm waiting to hear back from them.

Columbia House now requires the three digit security code on the back of the card. I presume that you included that in addition to the card number and expiration date. Otherwise you will get an error message.

Beyond that, I have no idea what the problem might be.

Yes, if you use "bill me" for payments, Columbia House sometimes, but not always, will hold part of an order until the rest is paid for. That's why most of us use credit cards.

We all love CH here, but I wonder if there has ever been any threads here at DVD Talk suggesting that one NOT join Columbia House.I know that I have tried to explain to my brother what a great deal they are.Even when I told him about the recent buy 1 get 4 free,I got the feeling that he could not have cared less and would rather remain faithful to DVD Planet.
I guess he did not have a good experience dealing with CH back when he was a member of their laser disc club.

A lot of people seem to be turned off to the clubs. I think it's partly because of the negative image clubs have. Most people believe those stories about how you'll get ripped off somehow or never be able to get out or whatever. I hear about it whenever I try to explain the benefits of the clubs to anyone. They're afraid to try it even when I tell them about things like the B1G4 the DVD club had recently, or all the B0G3 codes that BMG has been putting out.

^People also don't like the "Director's Selections" and think that they will have to return them each month. Many haven't yet come to the realization that they can be declined on-line with a couple of mouse clicks.

A common misconception is that Columbia House DVDs are high priced because one has to buy two to five commitments at $19.95 or more plus shipping. The concept of looking at a membership, including the 49¢ enrollments, as a "package deal" and averaging the cost, is foreign to many.

Others just don't want to deal with the hassles that CH presents. This is really the only legitimate criticism, Columbia House IS a lot of hassle to get the best deals. It helps if one thinks of it as a game or a challenge, as many of us do here.

I think that's a big one. You see it even with regular store deals, in which people can't get over the cost of shipping, even if the total deal is a steal compared to anywhere else.

A combination of what everyone else has said, not getting the "package concept", the hassle of cycling memberships, the need for patience.

Even me, the cheapest of the cheap, buy a lot of stuff that I could get for a bit cheaper from CH, mainly because of impatience.

QUESTION ABOUT CANCELLING AN ACCOUNT...

So I just fulfilled my first account in 2 years. I have had many accounts with CH, but that was a while ago. I tried to go through the website to cancel my account so that I can open another. It stated that I need to call to cancel. I used to be able to do it online. Is there any way at all to cancel online or via e-mail, or do I have to call?

Also, is it still standard procedure to have 2 accounts open at the same time?

Thanks

Yes, two at a time seems to always be fine. You can also have a CH.com account, and one or two TV accounts, so up to 5 total accounts open at a time should be fine.

I've seen and heard lately that you have to call most of the time. But calling is quick and painless in my experience. Just tell them you fulfilled the membership agreement.

You can cancel an account via website, by doing the following:

At the top and bottom of the website, next to Sign Out, is Help.
Click Help
On the left-hand side of that page, under Help Sections, is Contact Us.
Click Contact Us
When the Contact Us form page appears, under 1. Select the subject of your message, is the Select a Subject box.
Click the Select a Subject box, and then click on Cancel Membership.

Fill out the rest of the form and click Send Message.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I just canceled an account online. Go to Help->contact us and choose "Membership Obligation" for the subject and paste this "I've fulfilled my account and would like it closed." as the message. Worked the last two times I've tried.

I had posted this somewhere else but never received any answers...so please forgive me if reposting it here is wrong. I had signed up for the Columbiahouse b1g4 free thing with a buy 3 more in 2 year commitment. (I knew about the b1g4 free code with nothing more to buy...but i didn't use it ..stupid i guess) Where on your account does it say you have to buy 3 more at? Mine says I have already fulfilled my commitment, which i did months ago...any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Date Order Number Order Type Total Charges FunCash Earned

4/25/08 To Be Assigned Web **** Pending

4/25/08 (Order # here) Web $19.95 $2

This is the same order listed twice in my not yet shipped section. Is this double listing thing pretty common or do I have to worry about getting 2 orders sent to me? I'm new to the club so don't yet know what's normal and what's not.

I just sent in my payment Thursday so I don't have to worry about it shipping out till sometime next week when the payment gets there. Could the fact that it's waiting on my payment have something to do with the double listing?

Yes, I think is common and has happened to me and a few others. The first listing should drop off in a few days.

I used the B1G4 code couple of weeks ago and my order was showing "****" next to price. When the price showed up after 10 days it showed the full amount for every single DVD with the shipping. What should I do about this situation ? Should I email them with the order confirmation e-mail that I receive which include the right price for my order ? I will be happy if anybody could tell me what to do ? I really do not want to mention the B1G4 code and get in trouble.

Short answer, we don't know.

This B1G4 for an additional commitment of 3 is a new promotion, so we don't have any experience with it. Has your order shipped? Perhaps it will take some time after that before Columbia House updates your commitment status. It is also possible that the promotion was not set up correctly by CH and your account will never be assessed the three extra commitments.

At this point, the best thing to do is just wait and see. Or you could call in and try to cancel the account and see if the CSR sees anything about the extra commitments in your account.

This is a tough situation. If you try to e-mail Columbia House the CSR probably won't know what you are describing even if you attach the receipt. At least in my experience.

If you try to call, it depends on what CSR you get, but it could be awkward to explain why the order is incorrect.

If I were in your situation, I would try to call and explain what the problem is. If the CSR can't be persuaded to fix it, I would just ask him or her to cancel the entire order and mark it off to bad luck. If the order has already been processed, you can refuse the unopened package and when it is shipped back, your account should eventually be credited for cost of the DVDs.

There really aren't any good solutions for this situation unless you get a CSR who is feeling friendly.

I tried signing up for a 2nd active account but still haven't heard a peep. How long should I wait to receive a confirmation message or a denial?
