In the past, this has happened because the package was returned due to a faulty address or some such thing. It could also happen if the address card on the package became unreadable.
Here's what the transaction looks like now. Not the shipping dates on the order that was placed in March 2009:

Item/Selection# Order Type Status Price
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.: The Complete Collection
Full Screen
4984803 Standard Shipped 10/21/2008 $79.98
I Love Lucy: The Complete Series
Full Screen
4874103 Standard Shipped 02/05/2008 $39.18
The Flintstones: The Complete Series
Full Screen
4991006 Standard Shipped 10/28/2008 $51.98
The Avengers: The Complete Emma Peel Megaset
Full Screen
4402905 Standard Shipped 02/28/2006 $39.99

I've still been billed for these and no refund has yet appeared on my credit card. Has anyone seen an order like this where the shipping dates are changed from when they were said to be shipped to 3 years prior to that date?
I've not heard of such a thing. Time for a phone call. CSRs are often pretty good at handling cases like this, although it depends on which one you get.

It is possible that the order was placed again after the returned package was received. But why the wacky ship dates, I don't know. Could those be the release dates?

Fox titles usually show up well before release date. It is Universal/MCA titles that often show up on release date.

With any studio, Fox included, it is somewhat hit-or-miss as to which titles Columbia House will carry, unless they are very high-profile.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

Is this going to be a big problem? The other day I placed this order:

04/21/2009 11100006300621 $22.94 Pre-Order Underworld: Rise of the Lycans Processed
Standard Tell No One (2008) Processed

and today this is also on my order history page:

04/23/2009 11300006327102 $36.41 Pre-Order Underworld: Rise of the Lycans Scheduled To Ship
Standard Tell No One (2008) Back Ordered

and the details of that second order have:
-------------------------------------------
Order Method: Unknown Order Source

Tell No One (2008)
Widescreen
5299201 Standard Back Ordered $11.48 (it's a freebie in the first order, which is still there)

Payment Method:
Bill Me

------------------------------------------

Unknown Order Source, $11.48 and different order numbers, where do they get this crap?

What's the best way to handle this? Call CSR ?

Watson2, sometimes that happens with no apparant reason... a glitch in the system. Usually the second one disappears without any adverse effects. Just keep an eye on you credit card to make sure you don't get charged too much. If you do, you'll have to try and sort it out with CH.
Also, don't get "temp" charges mixed up with real charges.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

SMART-ASS, I've had dups show up before but not like this one. Different order numbers, item prices, shipping, order method and payment type. Whew. Anyway, I got nervous and sent ch an email asking them to remove the second order (I used their order number).

It was like they redid my order getting rid of the BOGO+FS on pre-orders and used a B1+50% off.

Update: 4-27-09, just spoke to a CSR. No record of first order, I'll have to return the second one for a refund. Oh-well.

The Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly Collection $19.95

riot, I'm not too sure of anything but this: Never trust CH account history. It's useless and almost never accurate. I would not bother calling them...I'd just wait to see what you're charged, because I bet you'll get charged the proper amount.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

Riot, this just happened to me, look back a post. When I called they had no record of the first order, I ended up returning the order. "Refused, return to sender" and am still waiting to see how that goes.

Jiggy, they charged me the wrong amount, it's the New CH :-), still waiting for the end in my case.

If/when it comes down to calling, it's hard to say how much of a hassle it will be. Sometimes you get a CSR on the phone who handles things right away, other times it takes the same explanation 3-4 times before finding someone who understands how to fix the problem.

i just got off the phone and they're refunding me the difference with very few questions asked. we'll see if the chargeback appears in the next 3 business days...

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

What the hell is going on over at Columbia House lately? I keep trying to open a new account and I'm getting rejection letters saying I already have two active accounts, which I don't. Now my several year old account I leave open at all times is showing up with "Your account is in-active. Please contact customer service." when I attempt to log in.

My TV account is still working at least. Though my new applications there keep getting lost.

^I'm still getting "redirection" errors (using FF) at both the signup site for TVonDVD and ch.com (where I tried a new application a few days ago just to see what would happen since they've announced the closing of that section of the clubs). It could be your problems are related. Today from my work system I got a "site unavailable for members" message on the main page, but it's working currently.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

Just a quick question.
How long does it typically take them to process orders?
I placed one on the 11th and there hasn't been any progress on it.

Could something be on back order and they just aren't saying that?

^ It's possible your order has already shipped. It's not uncommon to receive a shipping notice e-mail after you've already received an order.

You can apply again right away. Also, you usually can have two open DVD club accounts. so applying for a new account while you have an old one open ought to work. One quirk: if you apply using an enrollment code that requires a PSN, if you use the number of your current account, Columbia House will close it as part of opening a new one. I've had this happen a couple of times.

However, the accepting of new accounts by Columbia House is hard to predict. Those of us who have had many previous accounts often find that on-line applications get "lost" (disappear without a trace) or rejected (we get a polite rejection postcard a couple of weeks after the application). Phone enrollments have a higher success rate but there are few good enrollment codes that work on the phone and one needs to be sure to call the enrollment phone number: 888-242-3837. (The reason for this is that the regular CSRs no longer have the ability to enroll customers using good enrollment offers, just the very poor standard deal.)

Thanks. The account I closed was a second account, still have another open. I have been a member of Columbia House, BMG, you name it, on and off for many years (since the 70s) and just recently found this site. I really appreciate all the information you guys dig for and post here. I never thought of maximizing accounts, but that is what I am now trying to do with all this info.

I found out my problem there. I got so frustrated with the constant rejection letters that I went back and checked every single account I've ever had with Columbia House. I found one I had called to cancel back in late March that was still open for some reason. I haven't been getting emails or director's selections or anything for it, but the account was still active somehow. Never seen anything like that before.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

Hi;
New to columbia house and joined via tv on dvd with HDL code. Got my 2 tv sets for $10 so far and now looking to fufill account with b1g1 BDs (I see some b1g1 codes right now in the code thread and was going to try that). I've read the sticky thread regarding how to enter a code but I could not idenify such a banner after clicking around the site and looked in my shopping cart....I also see the user smart ass and others mentioned that tvondvd members can't enter codes now. Could I get some kind of clarification as to either 1) can't enter codes because they disabled for tvondvd members or 2) I'm missing the banner somehow....if so, please let me know more specifically what this might look like....does me using firefox affect the situation? Many thanks for the help.

Someone can answer your question better than I can, but just to clarfiy, CH only has B1G1 sales on Blu Rays every so often. So unless something has changed, you will only be able to use those B1G1 codes on DVDs.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

That's correct, which is why there is now a thread named "B1G1 Blu, We Miss You!"

This banner is found right on the main page. You should be able to see it on ALL pages, actually, I think, but you don't have to go into your cart to see it. (Also, changing the offer will viewing the cart doesn't cause the cart to automatically recalculate.)

You can see a picture of a typical banner in that "How do I Enter A Code?" thread. It's the picture that looks like text and reads "DVDs at 50% Off! when you buy 1 at regular Club price. Details->"

Obviously, the banner might read something else right now on your account. But look for that little arrow next to "Details," and that will give you the place to enter the code.
Sometimes (rarely), the banner is actually broken into a left-half banner and a right-half banner, and one, both, or neither of them may have a Details link. Without the Details link, you can't change the offer. The offers change frequently (every few days/weeks), so if you don't have a Details link right now, you will probably get one soon on the next banner (unless CH really has changed something).

The How do I enter a code sticky has a image of a typical banner in the first post. Depending on your default offer it may look different (most unfulfilled TVonDVD show 40% off sets), *but* the little "details" part in the lower right of the offer section is constant *IF* you are allowed to enter/change the offer code. There have been several times in recent history where CH has disabled the ability to enter a code for a site-wide offer, especially the free shipping ones. While I can't verify that the "details" part of the offer banner is missing on a unfulfilled TVonDVD account (I just closed my only fulfilled TVonDVD account and it is there on my regular account, also fulfilled), you are correct in that there have been a couple of reports that this is missing on those, at least initially. ~8pm yesterday, SMART-ASS reported that he was finally allowed to enter a B1G1 code and got his account fulfilled so you might want to try again.

That "offer" banner will appear a bit to the left of center just under the "tabs" you would click on to select "New Releases", "Upcoming Releases", etc. and above the "New Releases" scroll tool. Currently, just to the right of this banner is the "free shipping" notification graphic. The sticky has details on just what to look for at that point.

Using FF should have no affect on the ability to enter a code. It's what I use 99.99% of the time (even for Windows updates).

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

Hey All;
Thanks for the insightful responses. However there are a couple points right now I'm experiencing issues with:

1) Thanks so much for letting me know the B1G1 code is different from B1G1 Blu codes. I thought they were one of the same.

2) The reason I don't know (and I still don't) what the banner looks like is because to me, when I click on the how to enter codes thread, It says something like "a sample of the banner looks like this:" and then it's blank, I don't see a picture anywhere.

3) Something is weirding out on columbia house on my tvondvd unfifilled acct.....I can't even browse the blu-ray selection now and a lot of sections are blank where before they were populated.

4) Only thing that resembles a banner is a little icon that asks you to fill out a survey for CH and I filled it out thinking it'd go away to turn into a banner but no luck. I still don't see anything resembling what you guys are describing with the details arrow....maybe it's because the free shipping offer is on right now?

Anyhow thanks for you guys' help. I'll keep my eye on this and learn from the best on how to handle the CH account from you guys. =P

EDIT: Got it guys, it was the ad blocker plugin I'm running with firefox. Disabled it for columbiahouse and I can see where to enter codes. Cheers for the help.
