My order was around 10 AM also. No cancellation e-mail yet, and as of this morning everything showed as shipped. Now, however, everything shows back-ordered and my earned bonus points for the order have disappeared. I avoided any sets, hoping that maybe that would up my chances of actually getting the stuff I ordered. Not so optimistic about it now.

Re: Columbia House Sale Offer Codes, Part VI

I'd placed three orders; one for 10, one for 14 and one for 2 dvds/blurays. This morning, some items were shipped and some were backordered. After a little while, the backordered were changed to cancelled. Later on after that, all the remaining shipped items were changed to returned and backordered.

I called Columbia House three times today to discuss my order. First call, the lady was extremely friendly and helped me to reorder some backordered on my second order. The second time, I was told it was escalated to upper management and their legal team.

The third call, I spoke to a manager. She said that it was a glitch and they are working with their legal team to determine what to do. She said every customer that placed an order yesterday was at to top of their priority list and they want to help their loyal customers but also have obligations to the studios not to sell under a certain price. While that makes sense, it is still not my problem.

Columbia House extended an offer to their customers. While it was not what they intended, it was still the total in the confirmation emails that i received. I think they should have to honor all of the orders made yesterday. If they do not do something for us, I'm quitting. I'm also calling CNN.

Good luck with that. They are under no legal obligation to honor obvious price mistakes. Here's what you can expect if you call CNN:

Re: Columbia House Sale Offer Codes, Part VI

My order was cancelled/backordered/returned.

Fortunately, they sent me an email with a cool new offer to make up for it.

Anybody else get this email? I don't know if I should be showing it since it might be just for certain customers:

I called this morning and they said 2-3 business days for the refund to be processed.

I did not get this email. I'm not a fan of Tyler Perry either so the link does nothing for me but thanks for posting.

I called this morning to complain again and they still said there was nothing they could do. I used my remaining bonus points and will give them to the end of the week to make this right with the customers before I cancel my membership. I even convinced them to give me free shipping on my bonus points selection. We'll see what happens.

cajunjew, why do you think Columbia House owes you anything? It was obviously an unintended glitch, anyone that thinks otherwise is fooling themself. If they let these orders go through, they would have lost thousands of dollars.

As of right now, CH has made thousands of dollars. They have processed charges on my credit card, not just holds. They better fucking issue a refund posthaste.

I just emailed CNN. I live in Atlanta so they could do a local story when they run out of real news, which should happen tomorrow since all they discuss today is the debate. I don't expect anything but I'll keep y'all posted if they do decide to do a story.

Also, I understand that cancelling the orders is not illegal. Horrible customer service, but not illegal.

I understand it was a glitch. But I, like many people here, are loyal paying customers. I did not expect all of the cheap deals I got, I even thought at the time that it was too good to be true. However, as a customer I do expect a certain level of consideration. I feel like all of us who took advantage of the deal were very excited then let down like a ton of bricks. If they had good customer service, they should do something to make up for their mistake.

The letter I got from them this morning via email said "If you wish to re-order any canceled item(s) at the correct price, please revisit our website and place your order." I've translated this as, "We screwed up but screw you." I personally feel they should have taken the loss. It was their screw up, not ours. In reality, I know they won't.

They should make it up to us in some way because that's what you do in business when your customers are the victims of your mistakes.

How does 10% off plus triple bonus points and $4.99 flat shipping grab you?

No sir. I don't like it...

From their Facebook page:

Members,

We surrender! I not only work for Columbia House, but I have also been a member for nearly a decade, and what happened over the weekend was an embarrassing mistake. There was a glitch on our website (it had nothing to do with the Secret Sale email) and we can’t apologize enough for what has happened; we can only hope to do right by you in the future.

For those of you who are seeing additional charges on your accounts, please rest assured that ALL charges on canceled orders will be returned. No one will be charged a penny for any of this—it’s just that our system handles things differently and it takes a couple of days to make everyone whole.

Either today or tomorrow, you will be receiving an email from us with an offer of 10% off your entire order (including DVDs, Sets and Blu-rays), plus Triple Bonus Points, plus the site-wide $4.99 flat shipping on your DVD and Blu-ray order. I know it can’t possibly make up for the error from this weekend, but we hope it’s a start. And stayed tuned for more offers this holiday season.

As I said, the email should be arriving within the next 24 hours, but if you’d like, you can also call Customer Service at (717) 918-3232 and they will be happy to help.

Thanks.

I think they owe me something because they charged me twice on orders they aren't going to ship.

Obviously any charges should be refunded appropriately, no one is arguing that

Re: Columbia House Sale Offer Codes, Part VI

The Madea offer is a little embarrassing. The other offer is pretty lame -- I would think 20% and free shipping would be a little more appropriate. It's not like that many people that did this deal will take advantage of that anyway.

For some reason, I'm really not that pissed (and I wasted much of Sunday afternoon on this). They admitted their mistake and I don't blame them for cancelling orders. I'm sure they were in panic mode on Monday morning. While their "makeup" is pretty lame, at least they didn't skirt the issue and did something. The only problem is (and it's not really their fault), is that the charge and the refund will probably go on separate CC statements, so I will be paying extra on my CC bill.

I have to admit the maturity level seems to be a little higher here than on blu-ray.com where some members are threatening lawsuits. Some people's sense of entitlement is truly astounding.

Re: Columbia House Sale Offer Codes, Part VI

I only ordered 7 DVDs that were cancelled, so I'm not happy either. My first response was that CH lacked business ethics and showed poor customer service. I justified that response by saying that any cashier in a store would honor a wrong price. The store then had the luxury of removing that incorrect priced item from the shelf until they can remark them. How much could they have lost having a few items at an incorrect lower price. In the online world, CH advertised a 12 hour sale to attract a gazillion online users, and they could have sold one million + DVDs at that time, so the financial hit was significantly higher. The only thing they could do at that point financially to recover was to cancel orders. To add to the frustration and confusion, CH really needs to improve on their cancellation procedures. A day after I put in my order 1 DVD indicated cancelled and the other 6 indicated returned. A few hours later my order indicated 1 DVD cancelled and the other 6 DVDs went from returned to backordered. A few hours later my order indicated 7 DVDs cancelled. What an abortion. I'm a DVD/BR fanatic, so I will continue to be unhappy with CH until they have one of their sales indicating that DVDs are selling for $7.95 each with free shipping and triple points. Then the Sun will be shinning, the birds will be chirping, and I will be once again happy with the world.

I'm arguing that they had no right to charge me twice for my orders. That is pure incompetence.

Me: Hi, I'd like to buy this.
Columbia House: Okay, let me ring you up and charge your card. Oh, I can't sell this to you. It's ringing up at the incorrect price.
Me: Fine, just refund my money and I'll be on my way.
Columbia House: Okay, let me just charge you for this again and then I'll refund your money in a couple of days.
Me: Frak you.

Re: Columbia House Sale Offer Codes, Part VI

A portion of my order on my wifes account is showing shipped and the only cancelled part of it is the Jeff Dunham monsters dvd. I ordered on hers after the site went down and came back up. The Columbo complete series was $59.99 it is showing shipped. All of my orders on my account are cancelled.

I dont really blame them for not honoring it. From what I saw on BR.com it would likely bankrupt them. There was a lot of wild orders from people on there. Cant sell a bunch of $200 plus sets for $6.
