I was actually going to try it at SFBC, but said naaaaah... I searched my email to see if they had a code, but didn't receive anything except from CH.
SWEET! Thanks for the info!

Don't order anything that isn't free. They are a bunch of incompetent idiots who will find away to screw up your account if you do. I thought they were close to bankruptcy considering how bad their service is. Failure to ship and failure to answer emails. I wonder why they put the code out.

Re: Columbia House Sale Offer Codes, Part VI

I still get the Columbia House fliers in the regular mail. There was a "Happy 2014! $20.14 Off" insert in the mailing that I received today. Much to my surprise, the promo code was different and I was able to place a 2nd $20.14 off order on my one account. The 2nd code is CASHIN14. One time use. Credit Card, online orders only. Expires January 31, 2014.

Didn't know about that one, thanks!

Just a few weeks after swearing off this merchant for good I've placed 2 orders today. I guess 'free' is what the market will bear when it comes to making it worth dealing with them.

True to CH I did only get one confirmation email, not two. Astonishingly both show up in my order history though.

Cool - Thanks! Just used it for a TVonDVD season. It was $3 higher than from CH once shipping was applied but still worth what I paid ($2.72 for Xena, S4).

More information: They *do* have a limited selection of DVD/BR titles *but* prices are higher (sometimes significantly so) than CH and shipping starts at $3.99. It will *not* work if you select "Bill Me" (my prefered method with SFBC) so make sure you have your CC (or VCC) ready. If you select "Bill Me" as the payment method you'll have to log out and back in before you can use the code with a CC.

Science Fiction Book Club. Not sure what the other one stands for, but it's another book club.

With the 2nd code I ordered Riddick BD, and Cloudy/Meatballs 2 3D. Debating what my 3rd (well, 6th) order should be... Bought a book from SFBC with one code. Undecided on the other...

Agreed. They have totally f'ed up my main account due to their ineptness. Luckily I had a couple of doormat accounts that have not been used in a while. I placed a couple of orders with one being Argento's Dracula 3D for .82 and the other being Riddick for $3.82. I am not going to try anything above that price level and would be shocked if any/all of these new releases ship.

Re: Columbia House Sale Offer Codes, Part VI

The weird thing is, I have never ever had a problem with SFBC. Granted, I didn't get an email stating my order had shipped, but when I contacted them through the website, they responded within 2 hours, and I received half of my order the next day (11 days after the order was placed, but spanning 2 holidays, so not bad at all). For some reason, SFBC seems to run much more smoothly than CH.

Re: Columbia House Sale Offer Codes, Part VI

I'd love to get Cloudy 2, but from the stories I've read here, I'm not too keen on doing a pre-order. I'm thinking about getting Halloween 4 and 5 BDs for my next two orders. Too bad they don't carry Scream Factory stuff.

SFBC and Mystery Guild have *always* run more smoothly than CH, even before the merger. I think someone tried to "fix" things at CH (abused codes, etc.) following the merger and further messed it up. The books clubs (at least those run by "Book Club Associates" before the merger) always seemed to have their act together. I've had a unbroken string of accounts with SFBC (doing account cycling) since the late 60s and have never had problems that were not my own doing.

Edit: Placed an order on all 3 accounts just for kicks. On the 2 that I requested to be closed yesterday, I made sure the order total was $0.00 after the discount coupon. One of the items I ordered was a Christmas DVD, so I'm in no hurry for that one.
At least you could get into your accounts to place orders. I have several old accounts but that was back in the day where you made up your own user names so I used the same email address for all my past accounts. A few months ago in frustration I asked them to cancel my only active account. The rest I never cancelled but just left in unused limbo. So I believe I have no way to order anything given that they were all associated with the same email address and they took away the option to use user names. I requested a password reset on that 1 email address, and just like when I had trouble months ago I never received a password reset email from them.

Oh well. I'm very used to missing out on deals. Who would've thought that CH would ever have anything worthwhile, but I'm never rejoining and should avoid looking in CH threads which is what I had been doing until I noticed unusual activity here. CH was too much hassle to deal with and there deals became so rare I almost never bothered to look any more. I never understood how they stayed in business.

2nd order: R.I.P.D. 3D $7.42 shipped

Wish I still had more accounts. Oh well, 2 is still pretty good...
Cool for you. I'm getting a big fat zero from them even though I have 10 prior unclosed accounts. Had I known they'd pull the user name login option and I would've needed them someday far in the future, I would've used different email addresses, but my crystal ball has been broken since the day I was born.

Were 2 of the 3 less than the 20? or did you have 3 codes for those 2 accounts?

A little off topic, but I've been wanting to read a good time travel paradox book. I just don't know where to start or what to read. I love the thought of small changes in the past cascading into massive changes in the future (like Star Trek TOS ep. City on the Edge of Forever). Can you recommend anything like that?

BTW, it always pays to keep your CH account open. Thanks for the code.

If you have any old emails from CH you could probably find your account number and use it as a way to log in. I had to do that for the accounts I used to order the ones I got. From there you will have to create a new password due to the updated site.
