And I wouldn't listen to a guy from Barnes & Noble anyway. Their store policy is generally to throw away all slipcovers before putting the Blu-rays or DVDs on the shelf (with a few exceptions). Even the new "Avatar" release was missing them at my local B&N on Tuesday.
well I wouldnt call him a liar, because he put in some effort to research this for me. We were looking up all sorts of websites, and could not find that movie anywhere. in fact, he called you the liar! LOL

But I did notice alot of movies at B&N were missing slipcovers...however the Avatar had full packaging.

either way, B&N is WAY overpriced. I saw a $19.99 Best Buy BR there for $39.99!!!! insane.
but...their Criterion sale is outstanding. $20 for everything including BR. I picked up 9 of them.

Re: The Official Blu-Ray Slipcover thread

okay brothers..... lol

I FINALLY GOT IT!!!!!!!

wow that was so wierd. what a bizarre journey. you know what, turns out, the whole time I had that dam special edition!!! It just doesnt say that on the regular case, ONLY on the slipcover, and apparently neither BB, WM, Target, or B&N ever got slipcases...
I drove across town to Fry's Electronics, and low and behold, and entire row of slipcased Shazaam....

so I have the case, and two copies. gotta return one of them.
Gonna go to B&N and show the dude, show them what they did wrong.

anyways, thanks to this thread, I have the case. see it all works out in the end, and nobody was a liar.

also: went to a local record store, Zia's and found two slipcases I havent seen since their release - Minority Report lenticular, and LOTR Ralph Bakshi stylin'. Those had very limited sc releases, pretty much all gone the first week. I am so lucky I found them in that store.

...will update list now.

....still a work in progress. I want to post and add only ones that myself or members here can vouch for.

If you dont count stuff like Over America series, or the Nature blu-rays etc... my list is quite extensive. I'm probably no more than 100 away from completion....maybe lol.

Anyways, added some more to the list.

Also finally found a Macgruber with a cover. And I gotta say, that movie is FREAKIN' HILARIOUS!!

Does anyone know of a sc for The Reader BR?

Both Best Buy and Fry's Electronics had quite a few BR and DVD slipcovers.

I have an extra DVD cover if anyone wants it!

Re: The Official Blu-Ray Slipcover thread

I highly recommend this list becomes a list of Blu-Ray titles that have shipped with slipcovers. Otherwise it becomes confusing and not particularly useful as a resource for collectors. If you don't do this, someone else will and then this thread will become obsolete.

So here... let me help out a bit. I can confirm 100% that slipcovers exist for these titles currently missing from your list:

Bugs Life
Cars
Wall-E
Toy Story 1
Toy Story 2
Toy Story 3 (both version)
Monsters Inc
Up
Ratatouille
Nightmare Before Christmas
Fantasia
Ponyo
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

I've confirmed every last movie on that list. some I had to travel across town to hunt down and confirmed. I dont really intend on having any obsolescence on my list.

Then what is the point? Slipcovers may be abundant in one area of the country but not in others. Your list is entire subjective and therefore useless to anyone but YOU. It offers no historical or collector value.

And the second reason why I will now abandoned this thread...

These types of lists are generally created and augmented by a community, not an individual who refuses to trust anyone. If someone offers up a bogus suggestion, other members will call him out on it and demand proof. But usually people are decent and helpful. I staring at my shelf and I can see with my own eyes the slipcovers I mentioned above, and yet you still won't add them to your (not-even-close-to) definitive list? I guess you're on your own, pal. Hopefully someone else will start a comprehensive list soon and this thread can fade into obscurity where it belongs, considering it is a personal list.

anyone is welcome to post and add to the list, I've encouraged it. the fact that nobody else is doing a thread in this forum but me... well it is what it is.

so good riddance to you, you obviously have nothing to contribute but sour grapes, a bad attitude, and overall jerkyness.

no worries, they've been added, despite the fact that he came off as a total a-hole with a dong up his butt, and could only submit the title of children's movies....

I'll add any to the list that someone submits. I will also delete one if someone shows it to not exist or to no longer be available from retailers.

I'm hoping to add more quality movies to the list, such as Criterion, because I am not that interested in infantile titles; but I won't discriminate either way

lol, some people make this out to be a competition...who has the more legit thread? I really dont give a ratsass. I needed a list on this forum, for my collecting and librarian purposes, there was none, so I started one. Kinda odd that is would get people's panties in a knot to make such asinine comments as "Hopefully someone else will start a comprehensive list soon and this thread can fade into obscurity where it belongs"; I cant think of a bigger jackass comment than that lol. nothing personal.

This is where I fail to see the point of this list in its current state. Why bother limiting the list to what is current on shelf at your local B&M stores? There may be members here who prefer to shop for used copies, and may find value in knowing if a certain title ever had a slipcover.

I'm hoping to add more quality movies to the list, such as Criterion, because I am not that interested in infantile titles; but I won't discriminate either way
Why be selective about it? When a user visits The Official Blu-Ray Slipcover Thread, it should be as comprehensive as possible, and not limited to what you have seen with your own eyes, or what appeals to you. We shouldn't have to determine whether you've decided the title to be worthy of a mention when checking in this thread.

You may not want to hear this, but you probably should - I also hope that someone else creates a more comprehensive list, if only because I fail to see how this current list benefits anyone other than you. If you want to keep a record of slipcovers you have seen on shelves and deem worthy, grab a pen and paper and stick your list on your refrigerator. Otherwise, don't start an 'Official thread' that doesn't strive to be anywhere in the neighborhood of helpful towards other members here.

wtf.

I'm including ALL entries, and all slipcovers I can confirm. What more do you want???????

I was kidding about being selective, there are plenty of kiddie movies and other trashy stuff already on the list. Personally I prefer to see more hard-to-find stuff, because that what I was looking for here to begin with, but I am not discriminating any genre.

Other than continously adding to the list, how can I be more comprehensive???
if nobody else contributes here, then whoever starts another list will be in the exact same position.

Seriously, if you have some legit and concrete suggestions, post those. Otherwise, just griping about the list because of whatever reason, like you arent the one doing it, is totally childish and counter-productive.

while the list is relatively new, the goal is to be "official" and "comprehensive". this doenst happen overnight, especially with tardo posters just whining and crying.

at least some others had the gumption enough to discuss the slipcovers, even post pics to help confirm.

sheesh. Build, dont break.

.
if you bother to read the posts, at first they were bitching about slipcovers that werent available at retailers, saying it was useless to include those on the list and have people go on wild goose chases to find them.

now you are complaining that collectors want to know about cover that are no longer in production.

Everyone wants me to compromise to their personal needs. I cant make everyone happy.

If a movie, any movie, released in Blu-Ray, has or had a slipcover, i will put it on the list if its submitted in a posting, or I can confirm it myself.

now I cannot be more fair than that. if anyone disagrees, feel free to start your own list and watch the trolls bring you down. And cutting and pasting from bluray.com is a hackjob that disrespects this website and this forum.

k?

'nuff said I hope.

I still say copy and paste the list from the Blu-Ray.com forum as your starting point and build from there. Nearly every Blu-Ray on their list links to a picture of the actual slipcover. How much more proof do you need?

i dunno, I've been resisting that. seems like cheating. takes away some of the fun of researching and building the list.

You are a real class act.

Notice that while I did disagree with your method, I never personally insulted you once in this whole thread. Nor did I insult your movie viewing preferences or resort to name calling or filth. Great job keeping the debate civil.

By the way... i have KIDS. Hence the Disney movies.

first off, I was kidding about the kiddie movies.

secondly, your entire post was a personal insult by wishing me failure and hoping someone else would one-up me.

looks like I hit a nerve. next time try to be constructive and not destructive, so to speak. and your movies were added to the list, you're welcome.

Alright. When I started the Definitive DVD Slipcover Thread, I did it because no one was keeping an updated list on this forum. A few people would start and then stop. We had like 4 or 5 Threads before I decided to keep an "official" one updated. To make that list, I culled sources from around the internet (here, Digital Bits, Home Theater Forum, DVD Active, etc). I used every available online resource to get the list started. You could call that a hackjob but it got the job done. I think it's more disrespectful to ignore information that's already been offered from others.

Once the building process was done, I started hitting each store on a weekly basis to catalog every slipcover that came out each week. And anything I missed, a fellow member would step up and mention what they found. No trolls. Just very appreciative and helpful members of our DVD community. If you dedicate yourself to something designed to help others, and are respectful to them, they'll be grateful for your dedication and more willing to help out.

I just feel bad I haven't had the opportunity to keep the DVD Slipcover Thread updated like I use to. Once I started working overseas, my weekly trips to the stores have dropped dramatically.

Just my two cents.

Rather then formulate a reply and perpetuate this insanity, I will allow your previous posts to speak for themselves.

The list on the other site is exceptionally accurate and comprehensive and the discourse isn't in the gutter. It has that "community" vibe I mentioned before. I advise you all to check it out if you are looking for more info on this topic. The link is above.

I also noticed you have digibooks and box sets mixed in with the slipcovers. Might be a good idea to list those seperately. Seeing as how this is titled as "The Official Blu-ray Slipcover thread," I'm not even sure if digibooks should be listed, but that's just my opinion.

You have Blade Runner listed, and there is and never was a slipcover for it. It is also a 5-disc set, not 4. The Iron Man 2 Target Exclusive is not a SteelBook, it's an Metalpack (there is a difference), and it also does not have a slipcover.

EDIT: I just noticed that you are wanting to list other collectible packaging ("special collector's keepcase?") besides slipcovers. That might be a very daunting task if so. I guess that is why you have the digibooks, Blade Runner (suite case release, right), and the Iron Man 2 Metalpack listed. If you are going to list everything in one list, then you might want to see about changing the title of this thread to indicate this.

I suggest the "Everything That's On Blu-Ray" Thread.
