I recently rented Socket - I thought it was an interesting premise, but the acting was very inconsistent and could have been edited by about ten minutes. It also needed to be more violent IMO.

A few random ramblings .....
THE CURIOSITY OF CHANCE has just shown up on DVD. I saw this over a year ago as part of Newfest (the NYC LGBT film festival) and thought it was a lot of fun. Nothing spectacular, but worth a look. It's basically a gay spin on all those John Hughes teen movies of the 80's.
YOU BELONG TO ME is also now available, after screening at this year's Newfest. It's a thriller with a gay spin, but unfortunately falls apart for the final third of the movie. Not terrible, but not very satisfying, either.
A few months ago EAST SIDE STORY finally appeared on DVD. Set in L.A., this is one of the best gay films of recent years, with a terrific cast and solid writing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Coming out Aug 19 is A FOUR LETTER WORD, a solid romantic comedy from Caspar Andreas, with Jesse Archer and Charlie David (Dante's Cove).

Cameron mentioned "Cruising" in his review for "Partners". Has anyone else seen "Cruising"? I watched it a while back and didn't find it to be anti gay.

I noticed Stonewall was rereleased on dvd a few months ago. I can't find any information on it though. It may be an exact port of the old release since it's in 4x3 and bare bones. But the running time listed is different on the two dvds. The new one says 92 minutes, while the old one lists 99 minutes( which was also the VHS running time). Is the new dvd a pal to ntsc transfer, or is it just a typo on the packaging?

rented/watched 'Another Gay Movie: Gays Gone Wild! yesterday and even though it's a farce, yes, comedies like this should and can exist - the supplements are just as fun as the movie: the behind the scenes featurettes about the puking scene and golden shower musical number are a stitch.

^ yes, that was a surprise since the film is largely weenie free (well, except that one brief bathhouse scene)
I didn't have the chance to hear the commentary in full, but there's a funny story during the orgy shoot, that someone ... ahem, accidently achieved an orgasm. Mind you the actor's were simulating the 'action', but enough skin on skin, rubbing, can do odd unexpected things![Wink](/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Director Todd Stephens decided to not cross the line of sheer grossness by adding a piece of corn in with a dabble of chocolate for a scene where 'poo' is on an actor's upper lip.

^ from imdb:
Trivia:
Dubbed "the Traci Lords of the gay industry" after it was discovered he was underage when he appeared in several gay pornographic films.
"shocking!"
didn't know he was in 'Milk'

I haven't read this entire thread, so maybe this is mentioned someplace else in here, but "Six Feet Under - The Complete Series" is a pretty amazing treatment of a gay lifestyle.

(glad somebody bumped this thread, because I couldn't find it!)
There have been some terrific new releases recently, many of which I saw at Newfest (NYC Gay film Festival).
One of the best is WE'RE ALL ANGELS, a documentary about singing duo (and real-life partners) Jason & DeMarco, who have reconciled their Christian faith with being gay. Now, I'm not a religeous person, so I had low expectations for this when I saw in in 2007, but it is one of the most life-affirming testaments I have ever seen. This is a must-see! (It doesn't hurt that they are both adorable and charming, both in the film and in person.)
Another solid documentary is WRANGLER, a very informative look at one of gay porn's biggest stars, and a good overview of the early days of gay porn.
Lots of others I'll be back to discuss in the next few days ....

I'm not looking for gratutitous nudity or hardcore porn, mind you.
Chad Allen's "On the Other Hand, Death" came out last week and mine arrived yesterday. The BF and I are making it our Saturday night feature. I LOVE me some Chad so I CAN NOT WAIT.
