OMG!!! This was just posted on DavisDVD:
New Line Home Entertainment has announced four acclaimed gay and lesbian films for release on May 4th, just in time for Gay Pride Month in June. The titles, all new-to DVD, include the Tony Award winning Torch Song Trilogy, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Three of Hearts and The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls In Love. All discs come with new anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks and theatrical trailers. Torch Song Trilogy and Three of Hearts also include DTS Surround tracks. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls In Love also includes a commentary track with director Maria Maggenti, while Three of Hearts also comes with an alternate ending. Retail is $19.97 each.
This just made my weekend! I can finally own Torch Song Trilogy on DVD. We'll be picking up Love! Valour! Compassion! too. May 4th can't come soon enough!

Salt Lake City, Utah.
Well, Salt Lake City was cancelled, due to local protest. What a surprise.

My BF and I drove up to Irvine today, to see Latter Days. And I am SO glad we did! It was fantastic. If it's playing anywhere near you, go see it! Seriously, I can't recommend this one highly enough. We'll probably go see it again if/when it comes to San Diego. And of course, we'll buy the DVD as soon as it comes out.

Are there any plans to re-issue Mae West movies on DVD?

As Mae West has a large gay fan base, I thought that I would ask this question in this thread, does anyone out there know if there any plans to re-issue any of her classic early movies on the DVD format?

It is about time that there was a Special Edition of I'm No Angel with a documentary on her life. Perhaps we should petition Criterion to do a box set including She Done Him Wrong & I'm No Angel?

Hmm...can anybody recommend some "normal" gay movies? I tend to hate every one I come across but am totally open to anything that doesn't involve soft-core porn, drugs, clubs, aids, or any other stereotype.

To give you an idea...LOVED "Broken Hearts Club" and...hmmm...i think there are some others. But that may be the only "gay" movie in my collection.

Any ideas would be great.

digitalfreaknyc, you must see Urbania

I always try to show it to my friends without telling them what is it about... but at the end they love it. Plus, it's the best urban legend movie out there

It's worth a blind buy.

I take it you've seen Big Eden? That's about as normal (i.e. boring) as you can get!

I don't how "normal" this movie sounds, but word is that "Bear Cub" is rather unique and endearing:

plot: (from imdb)

Pedro, a gay man with an active social life and big circle of friends, takes in his nephew Bernardo for a couple weeks. When it appears as though it might become a permanent arrangement, however, Pedro turns to his friends for guidance as he and 9-year-old Bernardo begin to forge a household together.

have tix for this at next month's DC's Reel Affirmations Film Festival, looking forward to it

Hi Giles, thanks for jump starting this thread!, digitalfreaknyc, not sure exactly what mean by "normal" gay films, but perhaps you'd enjoy "God's and Monsters": http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120684/

I think you just eliminated every gay film ever made.

But seriously, here are some of my favorites that hopefully fit your criteria:

LATTER DAYS
Torch Song Trilogy
The Trip
Stonewall
All Over The Guy
Broadway Damage
The Wedding Banquet

Urbania. Absolutely horrendous. Made me understand why my 2nd boyfriend hated being gay. Just hideous.

Gods and Monsters I did like but definitely not enough to buy.

I hear good things about a film from Ireland called "Goldfish Memory." It is playing in select theaters in the US and will be out in Dvd in Ireland in I assume Europe I believe by the end of the year. The trailer looks quite funny. You can view it on their website.

Sorry if this film was mentioned already. I didn't read all of the previous posts.

What about Happy Together on Kino...a Wong Kar Wai film about a dysfunctional Hong Kong couple in Argentina.

It's beautifully filmed...and has both Tony Leung and the late Leslie Chung who are both hot (at least to this straight woman's yes). During the publicity for this film, Leslie publicly came out of the closet.

i highly recommend the sum of us, the hanging garden, and yossi and jagger. All three are pretty popular and sorry if they were mentioned already. I like these three because they are movies that actually have a great plot and storyline and don't just focus around being 'gay'. The three films look more at relationships - sum of us (father/son relationship), hanging garden (relationship with family), and yossi and jagger (relationship with each other).

God, what a drab movie. And also, their boss, BILL, reminded me of someone more than a few times.

You know, I was pleasantly suprised by a little movie recently.

I thought "The 24th Day" with Scott Speedman and James Mardsden was going to stink and it actually turned out to be quite enjoyable. For a film that spends 95% of its time on a single set and features a cast where only the two main characters have speaking roles, the writer/director did a great job of holding my interest the entire film. The film has lots of twists and turns and will keep you guessing up until the very end. I highly recommend it!

Here's a synopsis:

Tom (Scott Speedman, from TV's "Felicity") has just found out that he's HIV-positive. A married man who's been living the "straight" life, Tom had sex once, years earlier, with a man named Dan (James Marsden), and now he's on a mission to find him. His plan: kidnap Dan, take a blood sample and see if it comes back positive; if so, he'll kill him. The stage is set for a supreme battle of wills in this drama based on Tony Piccirillo's play.

I just rented some British flick called 9 Dead Gay Guys which I thought was insanely rude, crude but oddly very entertaining. The character, Dick-Cheese Deepak was too funny.
