Bummer. I'm hoping I don't run into that problem at Fangoria next weekend. I would be completely bummed out waiting 5-6 years (which is how long I've waited) to meet all of my fave horror icons, only to pay for an autograph AND a picture.

Rob from Icons of Fright posted a review of Monster Manix X (Con) last month.

The cost for autographs came up in his review.
http://www.iconsoffright.com/MM10.htm (near the bottom)

According to his review, autograph prices are slowly getting to $25 now

I was at Monster Mania 10 (I attend every Monster-Mania and Chiller con's)and the prices have indeed gone up. But I don't mind, meeting genre icons.

In a few weeks, I will be at Chiller meeting William B. Davis from the X-Files.
Cannot wait!!!

And here's the pics I promised:

This is a poster for Zombie's fake trailer in Grindhouse signed by Bill Mosely

The only situation in which I would pay for an autograph is if the person is deceased.

What I've been doing during Comic-Con is to make a list and put what I need in my backpack the night before. I'll even pack stuff for people at panels because you never know who you'll run into on the floor.

Does anyone know if Martin Scorsese signs? He's making an appearance in Providence tomorrow afternoon, and I'd like to get my Departed steelbook autographed.

cheers,

Besides some crazy earthquakes here in Indiana yesterday... I did get to meet Diamond Dallas Page and got my Devils Rejects poster and Blu-ray signed! Awesome guy, hopefully Zombie casts him in the new flick he is doing (T Rex).

Depends on what the appearance is for. Doesn't hurt to bring the item and something for him to sign with.

Scorsese does sign. I got my Goodfellas DVD signed about 3 years back when he hosted an event in NYC. He was gracious and really really short. :P

Scorsese did sign after his 'masterclass' today, but he only signed a few autographs before getting into his car. I wasn't one of the lucky ones, but I did get into the lecture. Today was the second time I've heard him speak, and he's been great both times. Good day.

cheers,

-the Jesus

Has anyone had a steel book DVD signed before? Are the signatures susceptible to rubbing off?

I'm going to attempt to get Gunnar Hansen to sign my Dark Sky TCM release (at Fangoria L.A) but the only spot for it would be on the inside.

I have a few steelbooks I've been hoping to get signed - I don't believe it would rub off too easily. I usually use the Pentouch Gold (also in silver/white) Medium tip 'nib' pens and havent had anything rub off with them. I think these would probably be the best for a steelbook as theyre more of a paint than a marker, but I would still suggest sealing the case in some way (I use the DVD wraps off ebay (from seller "hmscoventry" - usually $1.00 per 25 pack (plus $1 shipping from Malaysia)), or at least keeping it away from being stacked on the shelf with other DVDs.

Thanks for the heads up.

I was thinking more along the lines of getting the inside of the steel book signed. Where the booklets usually go.

ah, ok. I wouldn't do the insides myself, since that plastic area seems like it would easily rub off/smear (unless you planned to not use the DVD any longer, and more or less just use it for display).

I know that they have some type of spray-on protectors out there (I've seen them used on guitar bodies to prevent signatures from smearing/rubbing off). I'm assuming that would work on a material like the inside of the steelbook, but I'd probably test it first before spraying it over an autograph and risking 'damaging' it.

I always like to bring my own - I usually stop by Michaels and pick up any that I like (they usually have a paper strip to "test" the different markers on, if you need to). This is nice if you want to get a colored or non-standard autograph (I like using those gold pens, for example - I've also had people sign black and white covers (like Sin City) with red paint markers which looks neat).
Most people signing at booths will have the standard black or silver markers, some will even have a bag of different colors. Another reason to bring your own (and I dont know how common this would be at chiller con) are that sometimes you'll run into someone who you'd love to get an autograph from, but they don't have a marker on them.

As for purchasing items (and again, I cant speak for Chiller Con), most will sell you items but will also sign your own ones for a lower fee (for example, maybe it's $20 for an 8x10 or $5-10 to sign your own item) . If you already have stuff to sign, I'd bring it just in case and make your decision when you actually see what theyre selling - I've seen some very affordable prices (I believe Ken Foree was selling new copies of the Dawn of the Dead 4 disc set (and signing them) for $25 or 30 at Comic Con.. but I've also seen people selling single DVDs for $35+

Another reason I like to bring my own markers is that they're still sharp and they work. Nothing worse than having a celeb sign your favorite item with a beat-up, flat Sharpie and for all your time (and money) you get an unreadable smudge.

How bad is it that I can't remember what I have signed exactly? I can remember 2 dvds. I have a number of sigs on other stuff thought and I think Kevin Spacey was the least friendly of everyone I've met.

X-Files Season 1 - Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz
Rocky Horror Picture Show - Tim Curry

Oh, I'd love to have that Gojira one. Very nice.

Comic-Con is less than 2 weeks away so I'll be some DVDs signed, I'm sure. I'll post 'em as I get 'em.

Well Screamfest was this past weekend...

I met a few people last week.

Jason Mewes I had sign the box because I was trying to figure out the best dvd to have signed just in case I meet any more of the View Askew actors.

It took 3 years, but it has been signed. Corey Haim has joined Corey Feldman.

Not really a DVD, but a truly awesome hand made print signed by Malcolm McDowell.

I've had a few more signed since the last posting, but I've been getting mostly posters/8x10's signed lately. I'll get a picture of the new stuff tomorrow morning!
