I won't have one by then...stand-alone any way.

And that won't record progressive where a computer would. And a computer can also record 5.1

Meaning he doesn't, so he doesn't have HDNet. I think.

Actually, my cable provider (Knology) just added HDNET and HDNET-Movies 2 weeks ago, so they are spreading thru the cable systems finally...

My Time Warner has had HDNet since I got it about a year ago. So that's why i didn't want to make an assumption.

Not necessarily.

If this is a new HD transfer of BR, then that means that one has been made. Now, doesn't mean that it will be released but it does mean that someone at WB made one. So here we are. It's the first solid proof that something has been done. It will be interesting to find out how the quality is.

I'm eagerly waiting to see it on HDNET as well. For those waiting to see, here is the listing on their site. Thank goodness it's the director's cut....

Blade Runner (Director's Cut)
Rating: R
Year: 1982
Cast: Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young
Director: Ridley Scott
Synopsis: In 21st-century L.A., a retired cop is recruited to hunt down and destroy a group of replicants, who have escaped to Earth in search of their creator.
Run Time: 1:56
Air Dates: 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT - Sat, Sep 3rd
12:00 AM ET - Sun, Sep 4th / 9:00 PM PT - Sat, Sep 3rd
1:45 PM ET / 10:45 AM PT - Sun, Sep 4th
6:00 PM ET / 3:00 PM PT - Wed, Sep 7th
2:30 AM ET - Thu, Sep 8th / 11:30 PM PT - Wed, Sep 7th
2:00 PM ET / 11:00 AM PT - Thu, Sep 8th

On a related note, for anyone that saw 1492 (Scott's not as classic movie), the HD transfer blew away my Region 3 and 4 copies. And the 5.1 was much better then the one on the Region 4 edition. So I have high hopes they cleaned BR well.

Maybe now there's a Blade Runner Special Edition on the horizon, but it's been nine months since this was posted and this is the first new news we've heard.

I wouldn't.

But I would be willing to plunk down my hard earned cash for a multi-version SE for Blade Runner.

Now which version will this be on HDNET? The new DC, the old DC or the original theatrical? Man I would love to see the original in HD.

Spiky knows me well. For all of the benefits of cable, I still dont' get HDNET, Universal HD or the sports packages. And I'm jealous and hate all of you that do.

That's ok. I still don't even have an oval dish, so I don't get it, either.

I have Digital Cable but I'm not sure if I get HDNet .. I'll have to look through my channel guide again. Hopefully I do, I hadn't seen Blade Runner for about a year and caught it on IFC last month. I really need to get it on DVD sometime .. maybe I'll go to a Target or Best Buy near me and see if they have it for a cheap price

You have to pay for it. It's not a regular HD channel. We're talking High Definition here also.

They're just making room for the keep case replacements. Also, if Wal-Mart has any say in it, they'll also replace the widescreen side with some nice silk screen artwork.

2.35:1. no idea why they did that to the DVD. Just another reason why it's fucked up.

The movie was shot in Panavision widescreen at 2.40:1. The DVD is windowboxed on all 4 sides of the frame because at the time of the video transfer Warner Bros. thought it was a good idea to counter television overscan.

Every home video edition of the Director's Cut, including VHS and laserdisc, is windowboxed the same way.

I don't double dip, but for a special edition of Blade Runner, I would break that cardinal rule as long as they pull out all the stops...improved transfer and audio tracks are critical. But it wouldn't hurt if they got Ridley Scott to do a commentary or something. The bare-bones edition has a proud place in my collection, even though it's pretty sub-par in terms of video and audio.

Well, we all know that there is no news, until Perenchio croaks off.

By the way, that window-boxing, as Josh pointed out, seems to have been done on WB's initial DVD releases (Goodfellas also has it).

Since when are you in charge of what does and doesn't get posting in this forum?

This is substantial news directly related to a possible future DVD release. Even if it wasn't, you dont' get any say in what forum members post in ANY thread.
