Is there a new Blade Runner on the horizon? I think so.

It sounds like the HD channel is showing the remaster that Scott did for the SE DVD, when there was going to be an SE DVD; not the other way around.

I believe Region 2 had theirs go out of print sometime ago also. Nothing ever came out over there, but with R1 also doing, who knows.
You know, I've wondered for awhile now. Couldn't WB quietly do a remaster and sneak it onto market by doing a minor change to the cover art? Would Perenchio's thugs still find out and make a stink about it?

Luckily, I think Warner knows better than to make stupid business decisions based upon fanboy fantasies.

I was referring to the fact that studios have made unannounced changes to DVDs in the past (though usually to the detriment of the DVD and not the improvement). No need to be nasty about it. And what relationship could they possibly ruin? As far as we know, Perenchio is sitting on this project just because he can, regardless of how much money an SE release would make. Seems he's pissing off far more people than are pissing him off these days.

I'm sorry if you find this nasty, but it's simply the truth. In the real world, there would be no way Warner would so stupidly harm their relationship with Perenchio and Univision by "sneaking" and committing copyright infringement.

Look, I never meant anything like that, I shouldn't have even dragged out this topic, it was just a "if wishes were horses" thought in the first place. We get a billion different releases of American Pie, and some asshat in Mexico* is holding up a classic film.
We shouldn't be taking this out on each other either, anyone know of a way we could bottle up this piss and vinegar and mail it to Perenchio?
*not a slur against Mexicans as I understand Perenchio isn't even a native?

The completely off-topic jump-in to toss out a personal attack was also awesome. Bravo all around.
Clearly I should be taking notes on forum behavior from you. Tell me if I've got the rules down right: Responding to an on-topic post with an on-topic response = bad. Jumping into a discussion you're not involved in solely to make a personal attack and not offer anything related to the topic = good. If I follow those rules, I hope I can sit at the cool kids' lunch table real soon.

Well, Harrison Ford isn't getting much work these days, so even he may sit for some interview / commentary extras, IF the price is right (ala Seinfeld). Is there a more sought after re-issue?

Allllllllll-righty then....
Since BR is one of my top five fave films in the world, I'll chime in with some comments here...
I missed the first showing of the new BR in Hi-Def on HDNet, but it's showing again on Friday, and I'll DEFINITELY be watching!!!
I have DirectTV, and HDNET is indeed included as part of their "HD programming" block (for an additional $6+change per month). As far as the availability with other providers... I couldn't tell you whether it's carried or not.
Quite obviously, you must have an HD/HD-ready television to receive HD broadcasts/signals. You must also have an HD-capable satellite/cable receiver.
As has been alluded in previous posts, price drops on existing bare-bones dvds is usually a decent indication of a "special edition" in the works, but the airing of an HD transfer is an even better indication. However, neither is definitive. I certainly wouldn't hold my breath or lose any sleep waiting for a new BLADE RUNNER dvd. I'd be content (if not altogether satisfied) with a simple remastered release of the existing version using the HD version as a master... at least until the legendary BR multi-disc dvd set comes to fruition (if ever).
I'd LOVE to be able to "record" the HD version of BLADE RUNNER when it airs tomorrow night, but an HD-capable TiVo or Digital VHS are the only two "conventional" methods of recording HD broadcasts - and both are WAYYYY cost prohibitive. One of these days, I'm planning on building my own custom Windows Media Center pc, which would allow me to record HD programming intact, but those are also quite expensive (even if you build your own). If anyone has any other suggestions for recording HD programming, I'd LOVE to hear them!
As for this SOB Perenchio sitting on the rights to BR indefinitely, I'll quote the Cigarette-Smoking Man from The X-Files, "Nothing disappears forever". Another similar a-hole by the name of Alan Klein owns the U.S. rights to Alejandro Jodorowsky's EL TOPO, and has managed to block any release of the film (in any format or venue) for many years now. However, I read not long ago (from a reliable source) that EL TOPO will finally get a U.S. dvd release in the coming months (I wish I could provide links or documentation, but I cannot remember the source for the info). Klein swore that EL TOPO would never get a legitimate U.S. release, but he was - apparently - wrong. So, there's still some little hope left for the rumored BR:SE.

And you seriously think Harrison cares about a little more money? he could have probably stopped working after star wars and indiana.

I just checked the schedule on HDnet's site, and it does not list Blade Runner? I have the ability to order HDnet's service, so I'm curious where this showing is listed.
EDIT: NM-I see it's on their movie channel.

FWIW, I thought the HD showing of BR looked pretty good considering the film's age. I just previewed a few scenes, and my set hadn't warmed up tet but it still looked pretty good to me. I've never watched the DVD on my 16:9 set, so I'm going to to an A/B comparison later.

read on another forum that Ridley Scott was on Attack of the show...looks like blade runner will be back in theaters for a 25th anniversary in 2007...but the DVD will stay the DC...
anyone have the video, or a transcript?
