I've been pimping this show to my 9-y.o. stepson for 2 years (he's never seen even a second of the show). Glad to see it's finally going to happen. Come on, September!

Thanks,

There were a few series' in the early 80's that featured anime robots. The best of the bunch was the Force Five series. It had 5 series that broadcast one different series each day of the week. They were:

Starvengers (Getter Dragun)
Grandizer
Gaking
Spaceketeers
Danguard Ace

Now that the Starblazers series is on dvd, Force Five would is my #1 want on dvd.

No word on Tranzor Z (Mazinger Z) or even any of the other Force V shows coming out, but there are recently released updated versions:

Mazinkaiser (2 dvds, update of Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger)
Shin Getter Robo (2 different series, one from Geneon and one from ADV, update of Getter Dragun)

Also, there's a Media Blasters sale at Rightstuf, and Voltron volume 1 is available for preorder (remember, MB titles were taken off of the last DDD sale, who knows about the next one).

So now the question becomes...since I've been waiting for this damn show for so long, do I buy the sets that are coming out, or wait for the Original Japanese Versions from Media Blasters and watch those?

Were there many changes to the show from it's original version when it made it to the US? I looked around online, didn't find much info...anyone know?

Here's a page that seems to do a really good job highlighting the differences between the two:

http://golion.animation-web.com/differences.htm

From scanning through the list of episode changes it seems that every single person who was ever wounded on Voltron had actually been killed on the original show, including Sven, who in Voltron merely gets "hurt real bad."

Also, most of the fights between Voltron and the monster of the week have been edited to remove violence like beheadings, etc.

I'll probably end up buying both. There's 124 episodes of Voltron and only 52 of Golion, so it shouldn't be too much more expensive to pick up Golion.

It was either a mistake in the flier or by speedy or someone else-- doesn't come out till 9/26

I will try to see come Tuesday. But definitely Not an error by speedy (I bought an LA Times Early Sunday Edition, and it has a Bestbuy Flier in it).

Right, I meant to say an error in the flier that speedy got a hold of. But then I ready the story on TVshowsondvd.com about BB ready to sell em. Interesting.

I saw Vol. 1 stashed behind the counter in FYE yesterday evening, so the sets are definitely out there already. Looked to be in a tin, although I'm not positive.

New news: according to this story on TV Shows On DVD.com, Best Buy and Walmart made exclusive deals with Media Blasters to get this volume released 2 weeks early. So BB and Walmart should have both out 9/12.

I've gotta agree with the few posts above me, the set looks great, DVD's look pretty sweet as well as the tin. Can't wait for the rest to follow.

I just wanted to be sure of one thing: the tin isn't supposed to be hinged, is it? Like the top half opening up? My top half just came right off, I think that's normal, but kind of odd for a tin.

yeah, it's like the tin version of Edward Scissorhands. the top cover isn't hinged; it pops right off.

My local Best Buy had Voltron ordered but didn't expect it in for a couple more days. My local Wal-Mart didn't have Voltron either.

Neither of my walmarts had it. Both of them had the placement of it in the back corner of the aisles, in with regular releases of old, and not in the TV section. They said they re setup their racks 2 days ago and it'll stay there for at least 3 months. Not located in the New Releases or TV. Also, neither had it in and scanned the barcode in display slip that had the Voltron name... he said the scanner didn't register it as a NR, so they'll get it whenever... as in it's not a top priority... probably not till end of the week or next week.

So why did they get it early along w/ BB?

It was pretty divided, i had to drive about an hour to get to BB since neither walmarts had it.. got there 10 minutes early. There were about 20 people already outside waiting... and it was clearly divided into three groups. A third were girls, getting Grey's Anatomy or Smallville, 1/3 were total Star Wars dorks, and the other third were just regular joes who grew up watching Voltron and wanted to pick it up, like me. Not insulting to anyone, but it was pretty funny to see the people who were already waiting when I got there ahead in the checkout and could what they were buying.

Why is an adult buying a Voltron cartoon from the 80's a "regular joe" and the rest all dorks and girls?

I can only imagine what all the people on the Grey's Anatomy forum are saying right now.

Because the folks buying Star Wars had the bottoms of their pants 3 inches above their ankles, were 28 and came with their mommies, or wore a Star Wars Tshirt about 20 years old with holes in it and 2 sizes too small. As opposed to someone wearing a polo shirt, khaki pants, and tennis shoes, like me.

Or, maybe I went to get Voltron and concealing that I ended up buying Star Wars when I planned on skipping it....

I guess I was just sayin that I could tell which people were for Star Wars, which were there for Grey's Anatomy and who was there for something else.
