Actually those TV shows that appear to be Out of Print, are the bundle packs that contain all the seasons indicated, for example, Friends Seasons 1-10. The individual releases for those TV shows still are in print.

As dx23 has said, it's the mega-sets that are going, not the individual releases. There are several reasons for this. However, a more important reason - and this applies to limited editions of all kinds - is that some studios like to establish a rep for taking stuff out of print quite quickly. This acts as a "hook" for customers, making them more likely to buy stuff when it first comes out rather than waiting for discount sales. That means a higher turnover and higher initial sales spike for the studio, and it means that stores and etailers don't have warehouses full of bulky sets they aren't selling.
It will even spur people into buying stuff they aren't sure of - they think "better get it before it goes oop".

Why is G.I.Joe going OOP so damn fast. I never got a chance to get season 2/part 1.
Rhino was the company that released all those GI Joe, transformers, and Jem and they lost the rights to distribute, so the DVDs got discontinued.

IMHO DVD's in Japan have a much shorter sales life, and they also have far more "special" and "limited" editions (beautifuly put together but very expensive) and the studios there tend to license their stuff for foreign release in the same way.

There are 2 different "The Criterion Collection" UPC's for this release. The UPC 724349242395 (assigned to EMI/Captial) is still listed in print (and in stock). However, it looks like the UPC 715515010924 (assigned to Criterion/Voyager) is now listed as OOP, and disappearing from stocks.
To the best of my knowledge, both releases are identical. This could just be some "house cleaning" by their distributor Image Entertainment.

Is Crash (directed by Cronenberg) with UPC: 794043468124 an OOP already? Im talking about the the snapper case with the fine glossy DVD disc? not the re-release keepcase which cost around $19-$20.

I think they all share the same UPC, while the packaging may have changed, it is not technically OOP...
