I know there are some people here who don't like allowing the MST3K versions, but there is still nothing in the rules to prohibit it. I watched several last year, and I certainly plan to include a bunch this year as my wife enjoys watching them with me.

Just make sure that the theme of the movie being watched is horror and not strictly scifi, biker, or whatever

I don't think they ever cut more than 10 or so minutes from a film.

And you've never seen a MST3K? One of the finer things in life imo.

Would Vengeance Is Mine and Man Bites Dog count as horror? They're certainly horrifying enough. A known horror film, The Last Horror Movie, is essentially a version of the same concept as Man Bites Dog. Also, if you can count Seven and Silence of the Lambs, then I argue these are every bit as much horror. Can anyone validate my hypothesis?

This is one of the rare instances where insomnia is a blessing!

I'm not sure if I can keep up this pace for long, but it has been a lot of fun watching wall to wall horror.

Per IMDB, yes on C'est arrivé près de chez vous (Man Bites Dog), no on Fukushû suruwa wareniari (Vengeance is Mine). But it is listed as thriller, and I think it was decided that we were allowing those.

But again, the rules are open to your own interpretation. If it is horror to you, and even somewhat defendable, go for it, have fun.

You should really consider participating in the "Holiday Movie Challenge" as well.

Well, watched my 2nd film last night Dracula 2000, so still on track. I somehow suspect though that unless things come up to cslow me down, given the amount of hoor films on tv this month, esp TCM's marathon on friday I expect to surpass my own goal of 31. Incidentallt, some of my fav. quotes from last night:

"Sorry, I'm an Atheist. God Loves you anway." lol, right before the vamp gets a blade in the eye.

"Never EVER fuck with an antique dealer!"

Got my first horror flick from Netflix today, so will be watching the original Phantasm tonight. then resume the Drac trilogy tomorrow.

NoirFan's list has already inspired me to track down some of those early horror films. Dreyer's Leaves from Satan's Book is an Image Entertainment release which I had not known about. Very good price at Amazon for some reason. I found The Bells as a "free" watch now at Netflix. The Unknown is on that Lon Chaney collection I had completely forgotten about. Finally, The Unholy Three I was unable to locate on video. Keep 'em coming!

Hope you have fun with your first pick. All 3 of my Netflix selections didn't arrive today So that just leaves me with watching something called "The Graveyard" tonight on one of the Showtime networks (I think) and one of the Hellraiser sequels afterwards.

This is why I love this challenge. Always gives me the chance to check out stuff I would normally pass by. House of 9 turned out to be quite a surprise for me last night.

As has been discussed in the past, if someone really feels inclined to cheat on something like this, they need a check up from the neck up.

I am inclined to agree to a certain extent. Seeing lists in the low-to-mid 20s after just a few days leads me to believe that people are either fudging the numbers a bit or have no job and just sit around watching movies all day.

I think it depends on the thriller. In my opinion, Cruising doesn't qualify as horror.

For those that weren't aware - I put the entire October TCM schedule with just the horror selections up on the first page. Although, a few of them might not belong there as TCM has foolishly labeled "The Time Machine" and some other strictly sci-fi fare as being horror.

Okay, I'm having trouble finding horror films from 1890, 1900, 1910.

Any tips or ideas on what to look for? Google is not being friendly with helping me with names.

I think he meant those decades, not the specific years.

The 1910s are easy, as the Frankenstein film is easily found on the web.

I'm striking out on the 1890s and 1900s so far. I can find information about horror films from those decades on wikipedia and other sites, but I can't find the actual films themselves. But I haven't looked really hard yet.

Glad I was able to give you a few viewing options. Having watched Leaves last night I must say I was underwhelmed - the film displayed little of the atmosphere or imagery of Dreyer's Vampyr, which you should definitely check out, if you haven't already. Leaves was a pretty dull film with a ridiculous and unbelievable central concept. I was quite impressed by the transfer on Bells, though the ending was anticlimatic, to say the least. If you're into silent horror films, check out Haxan, given an excellent treatment by Criterion. Unholy Three pops up on TCM now and again - a thoughtful fellow DVD Talker burned me a a copy of it. Come to think of it, I might be able to burn you a copy as well. Let me know if you're interested.

One thing I've decided to do is watch various documentaries,specials,featurettes,trailers,etc...Anything to do with horror.
But, of course, I won't include any of these in the "official" listing of my marathon. Just consider them as "Extra goodies" to round out the kickass viewing experience of this challenge.
