I picked up my pre-order steelbook from FYE and also bought the Best Buy version with the bonus disc. The bonus disc was under the shrink wrap.

The detail that went into this SteelBook is very nice. On that level, it compares favorably to "X-Men: The Last Stand." Just wish the disc itself wasn't gray.

I took a good look at the steelbook release when I stopped by Future Shop today (they're carrying the same steelbook that FYE is carrying in the States). I can't say that I was particularly impressed by it (I thought the steelbooks for The Departed and Robocop were a lot better). At the same time, I spent a couple of minutes watching an HD trailer for Cloverfield that they were showing on one of the LCD tvs on the floor. Long story short, Paramount will get my money whey they release Cloverfield on Blu-ray (later this year, I'm assuming). I can no longer justify the extra cost for special packaging when I know I won't be happy with the actual content later on.

To clarify, just in case: BB Bonus disc is under the shrinkwrap outside of the case. The white paper sleeve is visible through the plastic on the backside.

The packaging at Best Buy was shit. Can't believe the bonus disc didn't even have a nice little sleeve.

i agree. when anything is raised and the art work is sort of interactive i like it. much better than the flat, merely a painted on job.

the Cloverfield steelie is nothing like the Departed or Robocop. those are merely painted on, nice art work sure, but this one is raised and indented all over, very nice.

Just watched the bonus disc. Reveals nothing in the way of the mythology, but it's highly entertaining otherwise.

Pics of the steelbook from http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/

For some reason, I thought it was a 2-disc, but I was clearly wrong. Still looks pretty sweet. I want. The site has photos of the other editions too, including Best Buy and Target.

I am not picky about cases/covers but the cover with all the qoutes was ugly as hell and took away from the boxart so I splurged and did end up with the steelbook version which is probally the beginging of a bad habit with steelbooks.

i remember it being asked also i did get a 5$ rebate

I agree that the one disc case looks really crappy. Quotes all over; very artificial looking. Normally I wouldn't be willing to pay this much for a one-disc, but considering it's the coolest artwork for the dvd, I'm willing to splurge as well on this one. Be careful too, the steelbook habit can get bad haha.....

I picked up the Best Buy version, but at the store I went to, the ratio of copies that had the bonus disc was very low. I'd say they had about 40 copies of the movie in the new release section, and only 3 or 4 actually had the bonus disc (there's a second sticker on the front indicating the BB disc - and you can see the disc shrink-wrapped in a white sleeve on the back of case). Don't know if this is easier to find at other BB stores, but it reminded me of the scarcity of the bonus disc for the FRIDAY THE 13th box set several years ago.

I have the bonus disc in now - it's amusing enough - it runs app. 26 minutes.

so its really not a splurge. makes it the same or $1.00 less than most B&Ms.

Since it's filmed like (with?) handheld cameras - I'm wondering if it's worth waiting to pick this up on Blu-Ray or just getting the DVD now and being done with it. Since there doesn't seem to be any word on a Blu-Ray release and I really enjoyed this in theatres.

sadly, i own several non-2-disc steelbooks. mandatory 2-disc steelbooks would be nice though.

the target exclusive is pretty shitty, but that might be a good thing so i won't have to triple-dip. no special packaging. there's a little paper covering the standard dvd, kinda like the papers they stick to the back of the steelbooks with a different picture. that's what's advertised on the weekly ad. then the cd is packaged in jewel case housed in flimsy cardboard box shrinkwrapped together with the dvd.

considering it's not the full soundtrack even, not really worth it AT ALL imo. price is $22.99, not $29.99 like it had been listed though. so that's something.

Did anyone find any of the easter eggs? I only found 2 so far... not sure if the 7 originally stated are there or not.

I've found the best way to find Easter Eggs is open the disc in your computer, and move the mouse over the screen. No need for silly button combos when you do that.

I thought the quotes on the package was just for the retailers placing orders to stock the title. The actual disc artwork appears to be fairly clean and mirrors the original poster artwork.

Correction. Looks like the quotes made it on the official packaging. Yuck.
