I don't recall who it was that mentioned Burning Bright but just finished it and, man, what an awsome movie! A line like "There's a tiger in the house" may sound rediculous but this film sets up this idea in a believable way. The laundry room scene shot is shiver inducing. I'll review more in debth later but overall a very original outing. How a film like this goes straight to video while shit like Zombie's Halloween 2 graces screens I just can't fathome.
Hope more people check this one out.

I just finished watching The Forest on one of those Code Red "Exploitation Cinema" double features, and it seemed like the audio was out of sync with the picture. Does anybody know if that's a problem with the print or a problem with the disc?

I'm doing such a bad job so far. Averaging 1 movie a day (so it's okay, I guess) but I just haven't been in the mood lately.

^ You're doing better than me. I started out the challenge feeling under the weather and am just now starting to feel normal again. I've only gotten four movies in seven days, but hope to get back into it now.

Also, for whoever asked.... I always start a new day with the first film after midnight, save for the last day of the month, when I plan on doing an all night marathon.

I'm now curious about House of the Wolf Man (2009) by writer/director Eben McGarr but it seems elusive; can anyone recommend this enough for me to track it down?
Checked out Sick Girl (the 2007 feature film, not the Masters of Horror episode) by same writer/director today and enjoyed it overall but found it to be gratitious and choppy for the most part.

Same here, it knocked me out the last time I watched it (the old MGM dvd). I have the Anchor Bay one now and may give it another shot.

Just finishd watching May (2002) and wondering what others thought of it. Still trying to figure out how I feel about this flick. Ebert gave it 4 out of 4 and I am wondering if I am missing something but, really, 4 out of 4 for this? If anything, the movie is making me think about it before penning a review so I guess it is leaving an impression.

Salvage is on it's way to me from Netflix. Hopefully, it will be here in time. I actually had it in my queue before I even saw it on the list here....sounds interesting.

Just finished a Vincent Price double-feature of Last Man on Earth (1964) and The Bat (1959), both of which I enjoyed. Here are my thoughts on each:
Last Man on Earth
Based on "I Am Legend," Vincent Price is the titular last man alive after a vampiric virus has decimated humanity. The first act is pretty dated, depicting much less sophisticated survival behavior than we're accustomed to today (the guy still puts on his sport coat when leaving the house), but the second act where we see in flashback the rise and spread of the virus has some genuinely compelling moments as we see his personal losses. The final act calls to mind Fahrenheit 451 and its manhunt, and has some genuine tension. It may not be the most amazing production of all time, but the sincerity sells the source material.
The Bat
"Murder, She Wrote with Freddy Krueger's cinematic ancestor" is the best way to distill this plot. I confess; my mind was racing with speculation about whom would be revealed as The Bat. There's a very unnerving casualness that the characters have to the rash of murders and being stalked that borders on the absurd, but somehow grounds the film in scenes that might otherwise have gone over-the-top. I really enjoyed this one.
Also, I got to thinking about things and I have a few suggestions for the 2011 challenge (I know, it's too soon).
Given that we're only a week into it, maybe we should have a Pre-Challenge Planning Thread prior to the official Discussion Thread; most of Discussion, Part 1 was consumed by complaints about TV content being eligible this year and requests. If that stuff were confined to its own thread, then the Discussion Thread would still have a few hundred posts to go before reaching the point where it would need to yield to a second part. Just an idea.
Also--and I don't know if this has been done in the past or not--but perhaps in addition to key actors and directors of the genre, there might be a handful of make-up artists worthy of including in the checklist. I watched the Monster by Moonlight feature on The Wolf Man - The Legacy Collection, and much of it was devoted to Jack Pierce's work on the Universal pictures. I'm sure genre fans would know of at least a handful of his successors (or even predecessors) whose work really brought Horror movies to life over the years.

All this talk about Salvage has moved it toward the top of my Netflix queue.
A question about the checklist: I just saw Waxwork and Waxwork II. Both movies have extended sequences with mummies, ghosts, Frankenstein, etc., but the movie isn't specifically about any of those. But, since they are in the movie, would they count on the checklist? Thanks!

I thought I had seen it all and then I popped in Big Bad Wolf.

There was a scene like that in Bram Stoker's Dracula, actually. Earlier yesterday while I was tweaking my list thread post and rummaging the Interwebs for a picture to include from it, I discovered someone actually produced a statue based on that scene, with Dracula in werewolf form taking Lucy atop the cement tabletop--a tomb of some kind or just Gothic lawn decoration? I wasn't sure.
