Holy fuck was Halloween 2 (Zombie) awful... I remember seeing reviews when it came out thinking people were just hating RZ since Ive like everything he did to that point (even enjoyed the remake) but damn that was a piece of shit. Im going to have to rethink watching only movies I haven't seen before to cleanse my brain from that garbage.

I spent about 5 minutes turning the player on and off, trying different things but it just didn't care.

Has anyone else seen Alien Predators (AKA "The Falling") before? I watched it last night on Netflix Streaming and it's probably the worst film I've ever seen. I can usually find something of worth in a film, but this one made it very difficult. The only redeeming quality I could find was the conclusion of the film.

I just watched Halloween II last night and have to agree--it's tough to find things to like about that film. And I was giving it a second chance, wanting to like it. I've found every Halloween film to be enjoyable at various levels, even Zombie's first one.

I don't know if anyone else had this same problem or not, but I just tried streaming My Name Is Bruce on Netflix and I wasn't receiving any sound. At first I thought it was my computer, so I tried checking a movie that I recently played and the sound worked fine.

I agree with all the hate on Zombie's Halloween II, which is a shame, cause I really liked the first one.
Just watched Triangle and I fully recommend it, great Twilight Zoney horror.

First, don't feel stupid, that's great that you can be there for your wife. And second, I thought I was the only one that jotted notes down to transcribe later! I usually just go for sticky-notes, but last year I used a pocket notebook. Kinda fun doing that.
I was hesitant about that as well to begin with. But once you get into it, it's so great. Now I always have my Droid X streaming YouTube at work so I can get in some extra challenge time. I used to be anal about watching movies a certain way, but the challenge is for fun, so I've learned to embrace that now (with a little help from Trevor). If it's really something you like, you can go back and watch it properly (in November, of course).
I did try streaming while I was here at the hospital but it was a no go. It took forever to pick one since nothing really stood out and then it took forever to load so I just gave up. I'll probably try later on in the month (mainly for the checklist) but I just have a feeling that the format isn't for me, which worries me a bit with the direction the industry seems to be taking. But anyways, hopefully tomorrow I'll be back entrenched in horror, even in a limited capacity.
Just wanted to throw in my thoughts on Phantasm as well. The first time I saw the original, I liked it but it was a little rough to get my head around. As for the rest of the series, I ended up watching them in this order: 4 then 2 then 3 over the span of two years thanks to the scarcity of the films in any circles around where I lived. Needless to say, I had no idea what was going on. One day, about five years ago, I sat down and marathoned all four of them back to back in order to really judge the series and by doing so, something clicked and I loved them by the end of it. The ending of the fourth one even had me pumped for another installment that still hasn't arrived. I don't know why, but something about watching them like that worked for me much better than watching them separately. I think they all depend on each other to make the narrative a little more coherent as well as really endearing the characters to you as you watch. So for those not really into the series, if you ever want to give it another shot, I'd suggest checking them out in that fashion.

I ended up getting Terror Firmer (DVD) as a clearance rental from Hastings and was shocked to find it was the edited R-rated version. I haven't checked it out yet but might do so. I heard the cut version was hilarious ...but would really prefer the unrated cut. Good review, now I'm curious... thanks.

What are your thoughts on Children of the Corn? I purchased it on DVD for the challenge and noticed that it is also on Blu-Ray. I don't remember much of the movie. Before I open the packaging, is the movie worth buying on Blu-Ray versus DVD?

Watched both Piranha 2 and the "alternate cut" of Piranha 2 a couple days ago. But this 95 remake... I don't get the point of it. There's nothing different about it except for the cast. I can't understand why it was made.

Last night, we did a triple feature beginning with the Reds's horrible loss in Game 2, followed by Hideaway (based on the Dean Koontz novel) and Circus of Fear (a.k.a. Psycho-Circus). Hideaway was decent; I liked the performances, especially Jeff Goldblum's, but the 15 year old CGI looks horribly dated today. Circus of Fear was extremely light on actual horror or even anything fearful; it's really much more of a whodunnit that happens to have Christopher Lee as a masked lion tamer who is, admittedly, creepy.
My cousin came over earlier today and we showed her The Dark, which we'd already watched for the challenge, and she enjoyed it. I figured she would; she goes for psychological thrillers, the supernatural and things with children in creepy stories.
We followed that by streaming Teeth from Netflix. There's a local theater that does biweekly midnight screenings of cult favorites and they played the trailer for this the night we went to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (I think that was the movie, anyway) and it piqued our interest but we missed its screening. In any event, it's about a teen girl with notions of valuing virginity who discovers she has vagina dentata, teeth in her vagina that make her the wrong girl to attack. I enjoy movies where I find myself rooting against the victims, and every one of the guys in Teeth have it coming.
It's an interesting commentary on social sexual biases and mores, and one that I would certainly recommend to those seeking to better contextualize the "torture porn" sub-genre. The emphasis here is not on the violence--the assault scenes happen quickly and aren't drawn out--but rather on the sexuality. "Sex positive" viewers will find its commentary simplistic, and prudes will find it somewhat mocking, but I think it does a decent job of ultimately showing how misguided a lot of our sexual standards (and double-standards) really are.

Okay, need some help if possible. This year I'm trying to put first lines/words spoken for the quotes on my list. But I seemed to have missed the one for The Devil's Bride, and of course I deleted it already.
So if anyone has it on their DVR, or you happen to have the first line noted, I'd much appreciate it if you could send it my way. Here or PM is fine.
Thanks!
Also: I know the first parts spoken are voodoo rituals, I'm looking for the first English line. Thanks again.
ANSWERED: Thanks, brainee!

"Hello Nicholas!"
"Hello Rex. How are you?"
"Fine ... fine."
"Where's Simon?"
*de Richlau shrugs*
"Well, when did you last see him?"
"Three months ago."

Always seem to have slight trouble trying to find films to fit the ratings part of the checklist, so I did some research just now that will hopefully prove useful to others. I went through each year's list thread and tallied the films from the harder to fill ratings of G, PG-13, NC-17, and X. No fact checking done yet, so please feel free to give me corrections or additions.
Edit to add: see this post for updates
G
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)
Creature From the Black Lagoon
Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit
The Worst Witch
The Haunting (1963)
The Time Machine (1960)
Dracula Has Risen From the Grave
several Scooby Doo films I think
PG-13
NC-17
The Evil Dead
Man Bites Dog
High Tension
Frontiers
Pieces
Revenge of the Living Dead Girls
Scrapbook
X
Blood for Dracula
Cannibal Holocaust
Dawn of the Dead (1978) (DC)
The Devils (1971)
Evil Dead 2
Flesh for Frankenstein
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
The Hills Have Eyes
I Spit on Your Grave (1978)
Isla: She Wolf of the SS (1975)
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Snuff

And I own "House of a 1000 Corpses" and "Devil's Rejects" on DVD. And watched "Halloween", and thought enough of it to give the follow-up a shot - so I'm not a Zombie hater.
