Re: DVDTalk's Fourth Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge, 2/27/2024 to 3/2/2024

Starting at dusk tonight (the 28th) until dawn on March the 1st, there will be a ~36 hour crossover period where at least two different films, The Sword in the Stone (1963) and The Time Machine (1960), will count for quadruple Challenge credit.

These two films would count for February’s Romance/Musical Challenge, March’s Action/Adventure Challenge, the Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge, and the floating Academy Award Challenge. Don’t miss this chance to be part of DVDTalk history!

Re: DVDTalk's Fourth Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge, 2/27/2024 to 3/2/2024

So far I've limited myself to binging The Time Tunnel, partly because it's a favorite and partly because I could easily lay my hands on my BR copy.

We'll be moving to a new house in a few weeks and I've been boxing/cataloging my media collection for a few weeks in anticipation (of both the move and a new storage method) which makes getting out most previously viewed titles a bit impractical at the moment. I *really* want to watch The Time Machine and 12 Monkeys but it depends on just which tote they are in (haven't yet checked) and how easy they'll be to pull. I can lay my hands on The Planet of the Apes (1968 and 2001) in seconds (It's not yet been boxed) so they may be prime subjects...

Congrats and good luck on the move! I dread moving again. Hopefully the next time is the last time.

Thanks! We purchased the house in February 2023 and have been remodeling/updating things the past year. I'm absolutely dreading it (we've been in our current house for ~36 years which means *lots* to go through and decide to keep/toss). It *will* be our last move (I'm retiring in 2025), which is why it's taken so long as we want everything exactly like we want and have done the contracting ourselves to save a few $$.

I don’t get the chance to use my Leap Day memes very often, so please forgive my possible frequent pics today.

What with a lot of bad weather yesterday, I never got anything in until now. I'd say I kicked off with a bang though by going 5 billion years into the future. I just finished the Season 1 episode of new Doctor Who , 'End Of The World'.

I watched Sword in the Stone on D+ but The Time Machine doesn’t show on JustWatch as streaming anywhere. I wonder if I have it on one of those TCM classic four-packs. Unfortunately I cracked one of those discs by watching Forbidden Planet too many times. Not sure if it’s the same flipper.

Now watching About Time, my traditional Leap Year/romance crossover. Funny to see 2013 Margot Robbie in a minor role.

It's on this set:
Amazon link Amazon link

Depending on *when* it was released it's either a 4 disc or 2 disc flippy set. Older (2009) is typically 4 discs.

That’s it. Unfortunately it’s not shelved with a bunch of my other TCMs.

That's how it usually works for me... I'll dig and dig looking for a title and finally find it staring me in the face... lol

Re: DVDTalk's Fourth Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge, 2/27/2024 to 3/2/2024

So far I've watched three episodes of The Time Tunnel, one movie I liked (41 streaming on Prime) and one movie I didn't like at all (Idaho Transfer from an old SF box set). Even though I'm a big fan of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea I think Time Tunnel may be my favorite Irwin Allen TV show, although I've only seen one or two episodes of Land of the Giants. I just noticed that the great Time Tunnel theme song was credited to Johnny Williams - yeah, that John(ny) Williams.

He also did the theme music for Lost in Space and Land of the Giants.

Re: DVDTalk's Fourth Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge, 2/27/2024 to 3/2/2024

While browsing YouTube last night I got to thinking. And I discovered that the short lived 80s show Voyagers has been posted on YouTube. By multiple people. It only lasted one season, but I have fond memories watching it on NBC Sunday evenings.

One day too late: The Time Machine is $5 at Vudu today. It still counts for multiples through tomorrow, though.

Re: DVDTalk's Fourth Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge, 2/27/2024 to 3/2/2024

Sorry for this being a pretty plain Challenge with no updates or sponsors this year. I usually take vacation for these 3-5 days and put more effort into participating and the like. But I forgot this was a leap year until it was too late, and we’re down two full-timers at work.

Actually, for the entire ~84 hours of this Challenge, I am either working, on my 3 hour a day commute, or should be sleeping. I’ll be lucky to get 5 movies in. This stinks. I’ll be ready in 2028!

Re: DVDTalk's Fourth Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge, 2/27/2024 to 3/2/2024

I just finished watching The Tomorrow War on Amazon Prime. I really liked it. There's a lot of action (double count), an interesting story, and good use of time travel. It is a long movie (over two hours) but if you have the time you might check it out.

Trevor, sorry you're not able to enjoy the challenge this year but I appreciate that you were able to get the ball rolling. I didn't realize this was a leap year either until I saw the posts for this challenge.

Re: DVDTalk's Fourth Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge, 2/27/2024 to 3/2/2024

My viewings have consisted of a few episodes of a show called Alcatraz. If you haven't heard of it, the plot consists of a government agency tracking down prisoners who disappeared in 1963 but have suddenly reappeared in the present day. It's been entertaining and I figured it goes with the spirit of the challenge.

Re: DVDTalk's Fourth Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge, 2/27/2024 to 3/2/2024

Finished reasonably strong this year with the Bill & Ted trilogy and a grand total of eight. Checked the totals from the previous Challenges - 1st 5 (4/5 tv / 1/5 movie), 2nd 13 (3/4 tv / 1/4 movies), 3rd 13 (2/3 tv / 1/3 movies) and this year 2/8 tv and 6/8 movies. Maybe I'll shoot for double digits again next Challenge with a 50/50 balance.
