Even though Paramount hasn't included any lossless tracks yet, I do like their BD presentations, especially on new release titles. They produce the extras in HD and the overall presentation is usually solid.

I'm guessing because it has effects? They hope it'll look good in HD? Because if the transfer is lousy its only going to make the movie look that much worse.

Apparently it will not have English subs, but someone did mention the possibility that there will be another pressing that WILL have them. We'll see . . .
Other than that (and the fact that the DVDs will be both PAL and non-region free) it does look very tempting indeed. This is a really cool looking set, and I truly hope we get something like it here in the States.

Paramount Drops 'Ghost' and 'An Officer and a Gentleman' from Blu-ray, HD DVD Summer Slate
Paramount Home Entertainment has bumped 'Ghost' and 'An Officer and a Gentleman' from its summer Blu-ray and HD DVD line-up.
Back in late April, the studio announced 'Ghost' for next-gen release on July 24; that announcement was followed several days later by another for 'An Officer and a Gentleman,' which was scheduled to debut the same day as 'Ghost.'
Paramount has now removed both titles from its upcoming schedule, with no new dates announced.
At press time, the studio had not specified the reason for the delay of either title, but had indicated they will both be released on Blu-ray and HD DVD at a later time. Specs and supplemental features are expected to remain the same.

And Dark Castle and Warner Premiere are sweetening the pot for consumers able to play high-def DVD formats, introducing "navigational cinema" technology that will allow viewers to interact with the storyline. Warners backs both Blu-ray and HD DVD.
The high-def version of "Return to House on Haunted Hill," set to bow in October under the Dark Castle Home Entertainment banner, will include seven viewer choices leading to over 90 iterations of the storyline, according to Warner Premiere prexy Diane Nelson.

I know this is a just a tentative announcement but it's Disney's first mention of their A-list 'Classic' Animated Features and a article posted on High-Def Digest:
Disney Says 'Sleeping Beauty' Headed to Blu-ray in 2008
awesome!

In the latest case of disc announcement whiplash, Buena Vista Home Entertainment has officially announced a next-gen release for 'Badder Santa,' only weeks after denying it was planning the title for Blu-ray.
Mirroring the original retail announcement, 'Badder Santa' is due on November 20. Tech specs include a 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer, plus an uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround track.
While there are no Blu-ray exclusives currently planned (aside from Disney's standard Movie Showcase scene access feature), the studios says the next-gen edition will boast the same extras as the standard-def DVD version, including a featurette, deleted scenes, outtakes and a gag reel.
Retail price is a suggested $29.95.

The Lives of Others coming on Blu-ray from Sony on Aug. 21.
2006 Academy Award® Winner for Best Foreign Language Film
THE LIVES OF OTHERS
Available on DVD & Blu-ray on August 21, 2007
Culver City, CA (June 25, 2007) – Critically acclaimed, and winner of the Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film of 2006, The Lives of Others is a suspenseful and emotionally charged look at the socialist state of East Germany during the early 1980s. The directorial film debut of Florian Henckel von Donnersmark and starring Martina Gedeck (The Good Shepherd), this Sony Pictures Classics film will be released on DVD and Blu-ray by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on August 21. The DVD release of The Lives of Others will be enhanced with special features including a commentary track by the director, an interview with the director and a “making of” featurette and will be available for $26.96 for DVD and $38.96 for Blu-ray.
Critics praised this neatly crafted thriller for its highly intelligent character drama, spy mystery, and political intrigue. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone Magazine raved, “the best kind of movie:
One you can’t get out of your head” while The Wall Street Journal’s Joe Morgenstern called The Lives of Others “a terrific tale. As timely as it is timeless.” Glenn Whipp in the Los Angeles Daily News called the film, “one of the great movie-going experiences of the year.”
In addition to the Academy Award®, The Lives of Others also won Best Foreign Film from
the Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association as well as Outstanding Feature Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay and Best Actor in a Leading Role (Ulrich Mühe) and Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Ulrich Tukur) from the German Film Awards and Best Film, Best Actor (Ulrich Mühe) and Best Screenwriter at the European Film Awards.
Synopsis
This critically-acclaimed, Oscar®-winning film (Best Foreign Language Film, 2006) is an erotic, emotionally charged experience. Before the collapse of the Berlin Wall, East Germany’s population was closely monitored by the State Secret Police (Stasi). Only a few citizens above suspicion, like renowned pro-Socialist playwright George Dreyman, were permitted to lead private lives. But when a corrupt government official falls for Georg’s stunning actress-girlfriend, Christa, an ambitious Stasi policeman is ordered to bug the writer’s apartment to gain incriminating evidence against the rival. Now, what the officer discovers is about to dramatically change their lives -- as well as his -- in this seductive political thriller.

The Contract will have an exclusive HD picture-in-picture video commentary.
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...e_Contract/719
First Look Entertainment has unveiled full specs for their maiden HD DVD release 'The Contract,' which is set to boast several exclusive high-def extras.
First Look originally announced 'The Contract' for a July 24 HD DVD release, day-and-date with the standard-def DVD. Now they have revealed complete tech specs and supplemental details, and the release looks like it will easily hold its own against any next-gen offering from a major studio.
In addition to 1080p/VC-1 video, the HD-30 dual-layer disc will feature DTS and Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 surround tracks (both 1.5mbps). Supplemental material will mirror the standard-def release, including the "Inside 'The Contract' featurette, a still gallery and theatrical trailer.
Exclusive to the high-def version will be a new picture-in-picture video commentary, dubbed the "First Look Inside Look."
Though PIP features have a good number of HD DVD titles, they've so far been reserved for major theatrical hits from the big studios. 'The Contract' represents the first truly low-budget, limited release indie feature to receive such interactive attention on high-def.
First Look has not announced Blu-ray support, and no Blu-ray version of 'The Contract' is currently set for release.
