so has WB issued an explanation as to why 'Barry Lyndon' is not part of the Kubrick box set - are new extras being culled for it's eventual release?

Yeah....as many know, 2001 looked AWESOME on hdnet....I HOPE that it looks as good with a VC-1 encode....Im optimistic, but literally 2001 is probably the best looking thing Ive seen on broadcast hd. It will be cool to do a compare.

If 2001 is being taken from the recent 70mm remaster, then it should be one of the best looking HD discs available on either format.

oh I agree completely - some of the model work and outer space sequences were IN-credible - it almost seemed like the spaceships were too drift off from the screen - I literally wanted to reach out and touch the imagery.

My guess is they deemed it not popular enough to release at this time. They had to spend the money to go back and remaster these titles again, and perhaps they felt the cost was only justified for the more popular titles for now.

That's too bad. I'm not a big Barry Lyndon fan, but damn some of that imagery would look incredible in HD.

Yeah, Im not a fan of this movie....seen it a few times and will not be buying it. BUT, if Speilberg has approved this on Bluray it could mean a couple things.

A. He thinks Bluray is going to win and will not approve Universal to release on hd-dvd.

B. He has decided to support hi-def releases and we will see Universal releasing some of his films also.

Either way, its a good thing.

Or, I guess it could just be a fluke and he is only releasing this due to the remastering and will take his films on a case by case basis.

Paramount Postpones 'Zodiac' Blu-ray, HD DVD to Prep Additional Bonus Features

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced it is postponing the September Blu-ray and HD DVD release of 'Zodiac' to prepare a more feature-packed special edition.

The David Fincher serial killer drama was originally announced for a day-and-date debut with the standard-def DVD version (which just hit stores this past Tuesday, July 24), but the studio later postponed the next-gen versions, giving them a new date of September 18.

Now, Paramount has informed us that although the title has been pulled from its Blu-ray and HD DVD release schedule, the studio is currently beginning work on a far more robust, feature-laden special edition of 'Zodiac.' This retooled set will include the extensive involvement of Fincher himself, and given the well-received DVD special editions of his past work including 'Fight Club' and 'Panic Room,' it should be worth the wait.

If all the extras are in HD (as they should be), I'm all for the wait.
