It won't be long before I can get a decent Blu-Ray player on top of my HD-DVD player for less than the cost of a PS3. If Blu-Ray really is outdriving HD-DVD as much as it supposedly is, it shouldn't be a long waint. If I want something that's going to give me the best possible quality and most reliability for a Blu-Ray player, I'd buy a stand-alone, not a game system.

There's a whole thread over on AVS about authoring regular DVD-Rs with HD video on them, and playing them on HD-DVD players.

It works fine on HD-DVD players.

Of course it does. Ocelot keeps beating this drum, but his information is false. I burn HD files to dual layer DVD's all the time and play them in my A-2 and my 360 drive.

I have also authored HD content onto DVD-R's and played them on my A1. No problem.

As for Jason1, he's just a troll. Ignore him. If he really thinks this format war will somehow end after December 25th, well, there's a Judas Priest song I've got to play for him.

Supporters of both sides are really weird about this, but I've noticed more fanatacism on the Blu-Ray side of things as evidenced by TheDigitalBits and the Blu-Ray threads over at AVS.

TDB site, IMHO, is a propaganda site devoted exclusively to Blu-Ray. Everytime something goes right for HD-DVD, they spin it to their favor. They trumpet the sales records of discs, claim how movies are inferior because of size constraints on HD-DVD discs etc...

Several sites are claiming that Spielberg himself dissaproves of the decision by Paramount. I haven't seen a source yet that provides a legitimate claim to this. Same for the Bay comment, who can actually say it was Bay who posted that comment.

It's getting increasingly frustrating reading different sites views and opinions on the format. They quickly deride into format bashing. This is insane because neither format has launched the killer app or price point for the average consumer. Until these players become affordable for the average consumer and until some awesome films are released, people should tone it down a notch.

I think Bill Hunt is just sad because he didn't line his pockets with 150M. His arguments about Microsoft buying studios is ridiculous, when Sony has lined his pocket as well as those of other studios to release on Blu-Ray exclusively.

I went format neutral for the movies, not the software. I want to see high def movies period. Since that was the way they are being released I bought both. If it doesn't work out for one side or the other, the worst is that I have a PS3 that plays video games or a HD-DVD Player that upconverts my collection.

For the record, I bought my HD-DVD first when it dropped down to $299. I bought the PS3 when it dropped to $499. I also have 4 Blu-Ray movies and about 25 HD-DVDs.

Did AVS start some type of "get the word out" thing? What is with the rash of 13 year old fanbois posting?

Why are people taking this so personally?

Note that
1. the thread is 67 pages
2. the instructions on page 1 work, but about page 57 or so, there are some tweaks.

The thread is not about piracy. It's for those who have HD footage from an HD camcorder, HD hard disk recorder, etc, and burning it to dvd-r and dvd+r. There are a few posts about piracy - not worth it in my opinion.

Format war is bad. Too many dollars lost by studios. Why would a studio want to limit sales to HD or BR??? One format makes all studios winners!!!!

PLEASE USE LOGIC!!!!

Two sides have product. One side will win. Christmas is BIGGEST selling time of year. War may be over after Thanksgiving weekend. Companies will wait until after Christmas to announce new loyalties.

Company exists to make money. How is selling to 1/2 market good idea?

Oy...

Company received millions of dollars to make decision. You hate company. We get it.

Jason, you're a brand new member. Go read through many of the other threads here, and some of the HD Talk columns before you go making arguments that, despite what you consider to be logic, make no sense.

There are more forces at work than the amount of money spent by consumers. A lot more. And even the best selling titles in either format are in the hundreds of thousands, not the millions. Right now the market is not based around consumer purchases. You'd know this if you did a little reading. Now stop wasting our time with your uninformed posts.

What if the shoe was on the other foot and Paramount went BR exclusive? Is it still going to be "all about the movies" with you?

It would be for me. I own both formats. I don't care who wins.

Jason, trust me, this war will not be over by Christmas. It is going to drag out and it is going to get ugly for both formats, no question about it.

Yes, it is. I don't have this rabid, blind devotion to technology. If/when Blu Ray reaches my price range AND starts releasing movies that include most if not all of the extras on my already owned DVDs, I'll get a Blu Ray player too. I've always said that.

I do not hate company. I hate two formats. If HD-DVD wins and all movies released on HD-DVD I will be happy.

Or keep both formats if you want, but release all movies on both formats.

How can hundreds of millions of dollars help company who will lose more money, and will lose loyal customer base. Will 200 million gift from Microsoft convince movie studio to not release Blu Ray and lose 400 million in sales? If I am shareholder I ask why make this decision?

I think Blu Ray has more future with bigger disc. But forget that for now. Focus on one format winning and better future for everyone. Even if format limits us to 15/30 gigabytes, it is better than having 25/50 gigabytes and only movie half selection.

How many HDMI inputs does your television have? If one goes to cable/directtv, how many are left?
