So I see no Commando or Predator. And I just ordered the new steelbook Robocop, and here's the Robocop announcement. Damned if you do...
Still, I will be getting at least 75% of those Fox/MGM titles. I want Cast Away so bad....

It's going to be an interesting Christmas with the top 4 movies of the year (Spider-Man 3, Shrek 3, Transformers, & POTC: AWE) split 2 by 2 into the BR/HD-DVD camps. Although it only ranks 3rd here in terms of BO, wasn't Transformers considered the most liked of these four movies? It didn't have the massive plunges in BO that the other three did.
To quote Optimus Prime: "One shall stand, one shall fall!"

According to AICN, Spielberg titles will be released on both (rather than not being released at all). That softens the blow a bit for sure, and might even nudge Universal closer to nuetrality...

Let me be the first to say that I am shocked and never expected this. From a financial standpoint, I think this is great news because I'm sure they got a good deal to go exclusive. From a business standpoint, I don't know if it was a good or bad move.
I think this is great news if you're an HD-DVD supporter because it will keep the format around longer and more likely indefinitely.
Of course, the opposite is true for BD supporters because you're going to have to buy an HD-DVD player. I would hold off on this if I were you and only buy a dual format player. Because this seals the deal on the success of dual format players. By next year, everyone will have bought a dual format player for under $500 bucks. Neither format will dominate, unless a another studio like Warner goes exclusive to BD, mark my words on this.
And for people who are worried that MSVOD is going to take over, I wouldn't worry about it. Until everyone has a fiber connection, physical formats will not die. I do worry that Microsoft may have done this to confuse things, but they are really stupid to think that people don't like physical formats.
Personally, I already have an add-on and a PS3. Now I will wait until next year to buy a dual format player because there is no denying that two formats are here to stay.

As for me, I'm still an SD luddite. I am leaning HD over BR because I hate region coding with a passion. Also, I'm the proud owner of a $1,300 combo player that plays SACD and DVD-Audio in glorious hi-rez 5.1 surround sound......with few titles available to enjoy in either format.

I honestly don't care about this announcement as the only movie on that list that I would have interest in is the first Die-Hard.

I wonder if Michael Bay is bitching about this today? I'm guessing he didn't get the memo...
I could see him calling Steven and being all "Steve what the F is up with this? Tell them to F'n release Transformers on both Goddamnit! I F'n want my F'n movie on Blu-Ray too!

if i have to buy a hd-dvd player, i'm not gonna get the inferior X360 add-on... i'm surprised that the add-on is even qualified to be called a hd-dvd player.

I almost ordered a PS3 last week, but I'm glad I didn't. As of now I'm definatly going to be waiting another year before jumping on the HD bandwagon (unless of course, Buffy/Angel is released in widescreen, lol)
