I mean I own both formats, so I'll get what I want either way. I'm just thinking this may be a pain in the ass for my pre-orders like Jack Ryan, Top Gun, and Face/Off. I'd think Blades of Glory must be produced and shipped at this point, the rest I have no idea about.

Damn. Figures. A week after I buy a PS3. And I always thought HD had the edge due to price and name.

Braveheart will force me to buy into HD-dvd as well. But with both camps having exclusives it means neither will succeed until a dual format machine is on the market.

Hmm. With all this panic, now maybe I can capitalize and buy a PS3 on the cheap on Craiglist. Since Paramount was dual format, I was still able to get their movies anyway so no new studios are available to me. It does lend hope that HD DVD will survive, though.

At this point I think either will be lucky if they can survive 5 years. Hell I still have my LD player hooked up! Ah hell...I guess I finally have an excuse other than Dune to go neutral and get an HD-DVD player...after all have spent on BD discs another 230 for an hd-a2 won't kill me!

Sony and BD really had a chance to put this thing away...and they blew it...big time.

For VOD service you need high speed internet, correct? I'm asking this because in my area (central Pa, about 45 minuets west of State College) high speed internet is very iffy. I'm talking about the cheaper DSL, not cable. You can get cable in my area, but it's very expensive and not as good. Now I'm saying DSL is iffy because some towns can get it and some can't. For example, my town can get it, but a town 3 miles away from mine can't. And honestly, I don't know a single person that would use a service like this. I know I wouldn't. When I buy a movie I want to physically own something, not have a file on a hard drive. But that's just my .02.

Not a single person you know has ever used Tivo or Comcast On Demand?

(Tivo not being a VOD provider, but it's "files on a hard drive" in that box).

I love this quote:

"Rob Moore, president of Paramount Worldwide Distribution, said market data shows that people who own gaming consoles buy fewer movies than those who invest in a movie-only player."

I have a HD-A2, 62 HD-DVD movies, my PS3 using friend has 3 Blu-rays. Its all fact to me.

Re: Transformers on BD

Since it's produced by Steven Spielberg it will most likely be released on both formats. However, don't be surprised if there is some type of exclusibity time frame that HD-DVD has this title for. Perhaps 6 months or so.

I don't want to toot our horns, but I don't recall HD supports running in the streets like the world is ending, when Sony had all their great announcements. Too funny.

It's unbelievable! Bill Hunt is wetting all-over himself regarding the Paramount/DreamWorks announcement! He may stroke out before the day is over! Maybe, he is worried that Blu-Ray won't be throwing him another birthday party in Las Vegas next year! ::

I tried posting a little something on the blu-ray forums to tell them the good news about the Toshiba HD-A2 only being $238 at amazon, but they actually screen posts by new members. Big surprise that mine didn't make it in although, my signature might not have helped!

I'd do it if the download only took a few minutes. I'm assuming that access to on-demand services or the internet will become faster as time goes by.

Tivo/DVR yes. Comcast on Demand? I can't say. I own Dish Network and I don't really talk to co-workers about this kind of thing (of course my co-workers are all in their 50s and don't know jack shit about any of this). Now about my "I don't want files on a hard drive" comment. What I meant was I don't want a file on a hard drive to replace owning a hard copy of something. Sure I use my DVR to record stuff, but once I watch it, I delete it. If I liked the movie I go out and buy it, I don't keep it on my DVR.

This is the kind of news that I find interesting. In recent months it's all been "studio X with 4 titles is BD exclusive!" or "Target is carrying a single BD player and has BD encaps!" which I didn't find to be real news. Getting Paramount and Dreamworks exclusive to HD, on the other hand, is huge. I need to change the format of a couple pre-orders now :.

While i'm not gonna boycott anything from Paramount and Dreamworks, but i won't be buying a HD-DVD player when it's lower than $200 and between then, i won't be buying any HD-DVDs. Not that i'm loyal to BD format or anything, it's just fucking ridiculous to have two boxes to play a HD movie/show. Combo players are not an option right now, too fucking expensive...

i guess i'll stick with PS3's upscaling for HD-DVD exclusive titles on dvd for now.

I wonder if they said Disney and Sony lifted its leg and leaked on the movie-viewers when they went exclusive to Blu-Ray? Me thinks they didn't.
