I picked up the Target version on Friday, but only just had a chance to watch it now.

I guess I grabbed the full-screen version by accident. Also the color on the first 30 minutes or so is all washed out.....

For those who are still looking at Target, make sure you ask someone in the department if they have it. The store near me got a bunch of copies in, but they didn't put them anywhere near the box-set version, or even the new releases. (I'm not saying that's what happened in your case, I just want to let people know they might have to hunt for it.)

Just finished watching this with the mono audio track. Fantastic picture quality! I was blown away on how detailed dorothy's red slippers looked. Has anyone played the movie with the 5.1 audio track? How does it sound?

The 5.1 track is good, if not terribly immersive. Some of the music and effects are matrixed to the fronts, and there is very little going to the rears. I would say it tries to be faithful to the spirit of the original 1.0.

I'd say quite a few people have played the track, seeing as it's the default, and the mono track is kind of hidden in the special features section. I think the last release did that too.

I wish the mono track was lossless, but oh well.

I agree with this. It sounds more authentic and true to the source material. It does create a better sound field though in certain scenes (for instance, when the Tornado arrives).

It's going to suck to have to pay for the MGM documentary a second time IF Target has another regular-cased edition just like they did with Oz (and it includes the same, three disc configuration again)....GWTW is my wife's favorite film, so I know she'll want all the disc based material (and not just a single disc like Walmart may have a similar exclusive version with....)
Looks like I might have to throw one copy up on Ebay or something....

So just buy the Target edition which has all the GWTWs special features but no MGM doc.

It's confirmed that's how they are releasing it? Awesome if true.

It's probably a given seeing how well the 3 disc Oz sold while the UCE did not
(in stores).

I meant that it wouldn't include the MGM documentary... which I hope it wont. I'd probably be willing to pay $30 for Gone with the Wind without the MGM doc. It would be weird to have it repeated as I suspect most will want both the Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind releases. I do NOT want to pay more for the documentary twice.

Do you have some insider info (or better yet, actual confirmation) that the Target standalone release will only include the two BDs and not the MGM DVD this time?

My point was that if the GWTW Target exclusive release has the same configuration as their Oz standalone did (meaning, both BDs and the DVD that were included in the UCE box set), then people who had also bought a copy of Oz from Target would be doubling up on the MGM doc since it is also included in the upcoming GWTW UCE box set.....which I'd rather not do....and my wife would rather not settle for a one disc only release that Walmart may have (if their release mirrors what they got for Oz as well)....

It'll likely be the same configuration as Oz (2 BDs + 1 DVD). I don't have any confirmation, but I doubt Target did the Oz thing as a one time only deal (same with Wal-Mart). Given that GWTW is coming out in the same big box Target probably snapped up rights to the 'smaller' version.

Its just a 'bonus' DVD. If you don't want it, toss it. Target would still charge the same amount anyway. ;l:

Hopefully if the do duplicate including it for GWTW they charge - say - $5 less. I'm not buying the Target edition if I have to pay for the Documentary two times. I considered it as part of my cost for Wizard of Oz when I got that edition.

I'll likely just get the 1-disc Walmart edition, if I bother at all, if I can't just get the two Blu-ray discs.

So you expect them to assume that everyone who buys the Target edition of GWTW has purchased the Target edition of Oz?
