Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

you should go to the DVD forum about how they still don't see the difference in a BD vs a DVD and how DVD is still superior...

on topic...As much as I want this...I think....it's official that I'm going to wait on this beast of a set.

It'll be a matter of time before it's got a more significant price reduction. I'm Defintely holding out for a while.

Wow iam very much likeing how this looks, sort of like a digibook housed in slip cover. And way the discs are held are not that different from how they were housed in the mel brooks set last year.
And i havent had any issues with that set.
Thanks for the pics, Iam really excited to get this in my hands.

This is going to look great as i slowly get it autographed by various cast members as well.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

I have to admit, the book-style packaging looks very sexy but the OCD perfectionist in me does not like the idea of sliding the discs in and out of those pockets.

I'm pretty sure that this will be $50 within a couple of years. Just look at all of Fox's other expensive series releases (Planet of the Apes, Die Hard). That would be the point where I will bite. I already spent $100 on the Quadrilogy DVD release when it first came out, and I'm not repeating that expenditure again.

But I'm still hoping for some kind of sale on Canadian Black Friday (aka Boxing Day).

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

I think someone will have this on sale for around $75 at some point before Christmas. I just hope I can hold off until then.

Wouldn't be surprised if a few Best Buys put this out today. They have a tendency to do that with Fox releases.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

Really loving the artwork design, it seems like they are representing each film with the logo and color style of the original marketing. This is something really cool to me, I disliked the designs of the Quadrillogy because it made each films artwork look the same. Alien is a unique franchise that while each story is a continuation, each film had a different take and it's marketing reflected that. So I'm glad this box set is getting it right.

I am going to kick the ever-loving shit out of the packaging and then take pics for the forum!

This actually looks pretty nice. Not worried about the discs at all. Much better than the fold out for a mile packaging of the Quadrilogy from years past.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

The slide-out packaging is similar to the Rocky Horror digibook that came out today. Trust me, as scary as it looks, it's not that bad.

I'd take this packaging any day (alongside the fact that it's sleek and sexy) than that BTTF digipak with discs overlapped on top of each other.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

While I don't think this set should be cheap, $109 is way to high. Somewhere in the 79$-89$ range would be more like it. After all, these are films that have been released numerous times, and with mostly the same extras. I mean don't they want people to buy this set? Once you start getting into the 100's people are less likely to pick it up, especially when the dvd set is going for around 30 bucks on average. Hell I remember getting The Quadrillogy set in 2003 a week or so after release at Costco for under 40 bucks (with a coupon) and the Quadrillogy featured all new material and seemed well worth it. This looks like an awesome set and I'm definantly excited about, but 109.00 is steep as hell.
When this thing doesn't sell that well I expect some great price drops this holiday season. The question for me is, can I wait?

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

Guys, I think I can confirm that the Alien Anthology from the UK isn't region-locked. Take a look at the updated product image on Amazon UK:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Zoom in and look at the discs, specifically the hexagon region symbol. Looks like an ABC to me!

And with that, I went ahead and locked in a pre-order at $56 shipped.

Amazon images aren't always the most reliable, as they tend to rely on marketing photos from the manufacturer and not images of the actual product, but I'm going to take the chance and order this.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

From previous pictures, it has been my impression that the Egg packaging (which I have ordered) will be different from this. It looked like it would be an accordion style box.

Wait a sec, the image on the Amazon UK page shows it to have accordion packaging. I'd rather have the book. Canceling my UK order.

PS: Here's the new (small version) promo shot of the UK set.

That's very true, but I doubt they'd draw up two separate disc tops with only that difference.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

I just finished watching Alien (my Best Buy did have the discs) and it impressed the hell out of me. The image quality is just beautiful, it's a Ridley Scott film for god's sake, the cinematography is simply top notch and in high def the image is almost tactile. I watched (well listened) to the film in it's original theatrical 4.1 soundmix and it's also quite good.
