Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

The majority of the screencaps found online were taken down because 20th Century Fox started mailing out cease and desists. The AVS postings they were initially available in, full-resolution, have broken picture links.

Anyway, it's not the ones on the spine or back cover that bother me, it's the larger ones on the front cover. They bother me in this case because I know I'm buying something that I could get in America. I would only be buying it from the UK for the lower price. If I'm importing something that only exists in the UK, it's a UK product and the logos don't bug me at all.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

I'm from the UK and therefore buy and am more than used to our logos on discs and cases. That being said I would prefer the US packaging in this instance since it's so distinctive and the positioning of the UK logo is very obtrusive (on the front at least). Not sure the difference is worth much money to me though..

Agree 100%.
Most shops here seem to be doing it for about £40 or less. From the states it could be up to £60 delivered. I'll wait till I see one instore and then choose then.

How is the little circled '15' any more "garish" or "horrendous" than the Columbia Pictures logo or the Dragon Dynasty numbering or Sandra Bullock's miniature face?
To be fair, you're using an example that a) has only one logo instead of the more commonplace two, and b) uses the red-and-white colors of the spine to help it blend in. Also, Masters of Cinema are very aware of the aesthetic appeal of their line, so they use smaller logos. And while I agree that they're not that much more "garish" or "horrendous" than the studio labels or the Bullock faces, the logos are oftentimes there in addition to those things and stand out against the colors of the spine to pretty bold degrees.

Obviously, however, it doesn't stop me one bit from ordering them, especially if the price is right or if there's a unique cover.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

Why do they need to put the rating on the spine twice?

One is for the UK and sometimes we have to put up with one for the European market.

Not sure exactly why they need certification from both branches, but one is a content stamp from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) and the other is from the Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO).

The thing about the ratings logos, the Studio Canal digibooks had the ratings logos on the plastic wrapper covering the case. Remove the plastic and you have a nice digibook sans rating logos. I think Eureka needs to do that with their Masters of Cinema series.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

This just occurred to me: to anyone waiting for individual releases, I wonder if you're going to get screwed out of the extras. Since they're all on one disc, and Fox is probably not going to be including that disc with any individual releases, and it also seems unlikely they'd author brand new ones, I think anyone waiting is going to get shafted.

And they rarely do. Don't worry, one review site will get a copy a week early earlier then everybody else, and it's an easy one to spot. And the review will likely be almost all 5's.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

Costco has it on their site for $95, but that kind of stuff is almost always less in-store than on their site. But then after tax, it'll probably still be $95...

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

Interesting, thanks. But I should have been more specific in that I wanted a more in-depth look at the bonus features. Ah well, not much longer anyways.

Probably, but I wouldn't call that getting screwed or shafted. People will be able to decide before buying if they want to forgo the extras in the individual releases. The extras are part of the reason why this is as expensive as it is anyway.

To me, screwed is when a TV show gets a complete set with exclusive extras, and those who bought the individual seasons miss out if they don't buy the whole thing again.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

I'm not interested in ALIEN 3 or ALIEN RESURRECTION in the slightest. I have no interest in those films, or their extras so I'm really hesitant to pick this up (when I can eventually afford it, anyway) because I'd much rather get the first two films on their own - if they do ever sell them that way.

Yeah, it does look problematic with the bonus material if they do release them individually.

Especially when it's not even an issue of extras, but presentation like a widescreen-exclusive complete series set that was released 4:3 individually.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

Anyone know what the status of this release is, regarding Netflix? Netflix just says "availability unknown"... are they going to get them? Or are they part of that 28-day delay?

That makes sense since the release date is Oct 26.

Book-style packaging.

Cue the incessant whining from people who don't know how to treat their property with care.

Is that the regular packaging or an exclusive to some retailer?
