This. Please let there be slim cases for the movies, and not one of those horrible multi-disc cases. I'm not crazy about fancy packaging anymore either. Just give me simple, functional packaging. I'll be there when the price point hits $60.

Yeah I've gotten to the point where self space is at a premium. Anything that takes up less space than the quadrilogy would make me happy.

Many Blu-rays are released in Europe without region locking. However, Fox is usually pretty strict and locks most of its titles.

re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th
Even though the screencap doesn't show it, it's actually all four films that will have isolated scores.
So ALIEN will have both the intended Jerry Goldsmith score and the revised theatrical version, but ALIENS will only feature James Horner's score in its revised (and that's a nice way of saying chopped up in a blender and thrown on the film randomly) form.

Digital Bits review
The documentary on Disc Six, now simply titled The Making of Alien³, was originally called Wreckage and Rape: The Making of Alien³. More than thirty minutes of material that was produced for this documentary was cut at the last minute. You might be wondering what difference thirty minutes could make in a three hour documentary. A big difference. Gone now is much of the honesty and truth about the hell director David Fincher went through on the production. Among the footage lost were actual moments with Fincher on the set, where you saw his frustration and anger. You saw his struggles with producers. You heard from Sigourney and the other cast and crew members talking about the problems, and what a raw deal Fincher got. You even heard from the film's producers and Fox executives talking about what went wrong. Simply put, this disc was about as good a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Alien³ as you could ever hope to get, short of Fincher returning to address the production himself (and he WAS asked to do so, but declined). Unfortunately, what you get now, while it still does contain some of the above (including material that you've never seen before), it sort of teases the stuff you really want to know, then glosses by it.

The disc’s main attraction is the 21 minute featurette, “The Making of Alien 3”. This is a decent little puff piece that exists primarily to promote the film, but it provides a fairly nice look behind the scenes. It even manages to offer some historical background on the first two films and it includes then-new interviews with some of the actors from Alien and Aliens.

I have the Japanese Alien Head. It's awesome. I'd love to add the Dutch Egg set but I guess they will be region locked. Alien 1-3 is my favorite sci-fi series. Great news that new dialogue has been looped for 3. The extended cut of Alien 3 made a NIGHT AND DAY difference in the film, and changed it from one that I thought was mediocre to one that stands tall beside the first two. But the fourth one... there's no saving that piece of shit.

Well, as I mentioned somewhere else in this thread, I friended Alien doc producer Charles de Lauzirika on facebook, and asked him if "Fred Garvin" (his "Alan Smithee"-style on the hacked up version of the doc) knew if the full doc might be reinstated on the Blu-Ray. His response was "Fred knows. FRED KNOWS." which sounded more hopeful than I expected.
Also, is that promotional half-hour making-of Alien³ not on the 9th disc? I thought it was.

So, we keep seeing these rinky dink 1-2 minute extras.... that's great and all, but can we expect the 2-3hr docs from the quad? That's all I really care about.
#224
re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th
Artman, these are all extensions to the longer docs, so yes, the Blu-Ray will be complete with all of those extras AND these new additional extras.
Also, Boyle was asked to direct Alien Resurrection. I sometimes wish Boyle had said yes and Jeunet had done Millions.
