Alien and Aliens are two of my favorite films. The Xenomorph is my all time favorite movie monster. This is day one for me.

BD-Live itself has nothing to do with whether or not a disc will restart wherever you were when you hit stop. You're thinking of BD-Java.

I've only ever seen Aliens, and the first time was about 6 months ago. I thought it was awesome, I'll be picking this up because I've been waiting for a BD release.

If Aliens looks as good as Predator - and it should look even better - than I'll be happy. I don't expect huge leaps and bounds without a complete remastering.
But Alien should be damn-near perfect unless they screw it up.

Some more news via blu-ray.com. I know not many dug Alien 3, but I liked it for what it was worth. Nice to know they did this.
More Details of Alien Anthology Blu-ray Surface
20th Century Fox German site Bluray-disc.de has received an advance review copy of Minority Report (which is distributed in Europe by 20th Century Fox) to find that it opens with a short teaser for the upcoming Blu-ray edition of the Alien Anthology. After the extended tagline "In space no one can hear you scream – but on Blu-ray they can," it is revealed that the Anthology will consist of the movies Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.
Additionally, according to the print edition of the UK movie magazine Empire, this release is being produced by Charles De Lauzirika, who is behind the BD releases of most of the movies directed by Sir Ridley Scott, including the monumental five-disc Blade Runner. De Lauzirika said that, while the Quadrilogy DVD was already very comprehensive, this Anthology Blu-ray set will blow it out of the water, with new extras and commentaries. Also, a new sound mix has been done for the extended edition of Alien 3, which involved bringing back some of the cast to reloop their dialogue.

Never seen any of these movies, but I'm looking forward to checking them out for the first time in HD. Glad to hear that they're taking good care of these. Now I hope that in addition to the new extras, they include all old extras as well, making these the complete, absolutely definitive, collection.

well, count me in for those who love Resurrection. I think it's a blast. The 1st was great horror. 2nd great action. 3rd great goth. 4th. great fun. I love them all.
At least that is how I see it.. I think I have actually rewatched #4 more than any others. Not because it is better (by no means), but I am not always in the mood for horror or action, but am usually in the mood for a fun film.
just my 2 cents.

Haha, it'll all depend on how cheap I can find the entire saga for. Fincher is one of my favorite directors, so despite the hate towards Alien3, I'd like to see it. It would be cool to get a commentary from him on it.
What is this about an extended cut though? Is it a re-worked, "better" version that is truer to the director's intended vision? Somebody give me the scoop.

I hope that all the extras that were left off the Quadrilogy box for space reasons, or not having permission to reuse them, such as the isolated score from the first dvd release, is included here. Also maybe we can get the original cut of the Alien 3 doc called Wreckage and Rape: The Making of Alien³. The cut in the Quadrilogy box was cut by 30 minutes and showed more of what Fincher went through with the production, his frustration and anger while on set, and interviewed cast and crew about what went wrong. Part of what was cut also had people talking about what a raw deal Fincher got. I've heard the cut footage was done so it didn't make both Fincher and Fox look bad.

Who was the exact people who essentially screwed Fincher? I don't there they're there anymore at Fox...studio heads move around a lot.

I like it well enough, but not enough to warrant a double-dip. The first film is genuinely scary horror, while the second is more of a traditional sci-fi/action genre exercise, which doesn't really interest me. As far as movie sequels go, it's tops, but that is admittedly faint praise.
