There are so many of these threads on various forums that I don't recall where I read what but people have called and emailed and that is what they have been told (the first disc from the UCE release in a standard BD case).

Not sure if WB is tinkering with pricing or they are experiencing some glitch but people have reported that the prices aren't reflecting the listed one once one goes to checkout today. I would put in an email to them as, at checkout, they are charging higher prices than listed on the site when adding them.

Hmmm... when I checked out yesterday, it also said "Ultimate Collector's Edition", but was only $4.95. Maybe, because they already had the BD swap version listed as the UCE and so many people were inquiring/complaining, they decided to just up the price and send the UCE instead of the 1-disc edition. If so, lucky you. Still a good deal, even for $10.

FYI regarding Matrix sets. It looks like Warner just minutes ago updates their special instructions. It now says:

"To receive Ultimate Matrix Collection on Blu-Ray, please submit cover art for Matrix Revolutions (HD-DVD version in your set). You do not need to send the disc."

So no back cover needed. Nice.

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

I was able to upgrade 7 movies....basically I got all these for free (except Batman Begins). I only have the 360 Add-On, so I may just eventually sell all my HD-DVD's. Besides the 7 isted below, I probably only have about 5 more (Transformers, The Thing, Four Brothers and a few others).

Blu-ray Item Price
Batman Begins (BD) $4.95
Blazing Saddles (BD) $4.95
Casablanca, Ultimate Collector's Edition (BD) $4.95
Firewall (BD) $4.95
Perfect Storm, The (BD) $4.95
Swordfish (BD) $4.95
Troy Director's Cut (BD) $4.95
Subtotal $34.65
Tax $2.50
Shipping $6.95
Total $44.10

Looks like WB did bump up the price on a few of the collector sets:

Casablanca $9.95
Ultimate Matrix set $19.95
Harry Potter 1-5 set $19.95
Planet Earth $14.95

And it does say "Ultimate Matrix Collection or Complete Matrix Trilogy" So it official, you can upgrade from the Complete.

They raised the price to 19.95, but I think I got the Complete set for 20.00 at Fry's, so its still a killer deal.

Yea, I was in for Casablanca at $5, but they can keep it at $10. Don't want that big box of junk anyway.

Thanks for pointing that out, I missed adding that. And I guess this is why the price went from $14.95 to $19.95. Either way, great deal.

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

Here is what I am definitely going to get replaced:

Batman Begins (for the extra features)
Casablanca (for the Ultimate edition)
Ultimate Matrix Collection (for the 1080p Animatrix)
Clockwork Orange (all on one disc)
The Matrix (for the book packaging)

Everything below is what I also have available to replace but am unaware of any good reasons like the above to spend the $4.95 per title. If anyone has some time and sees something below that they'd consider worthy of replacing for reasons other than "having it on Blu-ray" I would greatly appreciate a heads up.

Spoiler:

300
Blade Runner
Blazing Saddles
Blood Diamond
Enter the Dragon
Eyes Wide Shut
The Fountain
Full Metal Jacket
Gods and Generals
GoodFellas
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
The Last Samurai
Lethal Weapon
Lethal Weapon 2
License to Wed
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Ocean's Twelve
Rio Bravo
The Road Warrior
The Searchers
The Shining
The Sopranos: Season Six, Part I
The Sopranos: Season Six, Part II
Swordfish
Syriana
Training Day
Troy: Director's Cut
V For Vendetta

Thank you.

I'd upgrade The Fountain and anything else that is a Combo Disc since they tend to be the most finicky (and I personally like having disc art).

...
Each of those offer identical a/v and features (one still may prefer things like menus, disc art, features on one side, etc. on one format versus another) except for the following (* for the better BD release).

300.. The current BD release omits some of the HD DVD extras.

Blood Diamond.. BD omits the IME track.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.. a review or two mentioning an ever so sligthly "better" picture quality on the HD DVD (probably so subtle as not to matter either way).

* Sopranos, The: Season Six, Part One.. BD gets a PCM track so is worth considering upgrading.

Training Day.. Improved PQ and TrueHD on the HD DVD.

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

F....I waited too long...price increases and now Planet Earth is gone from the list. PE was my main upgrade due to the fact that my disc 2 freezes on both of my players.

Hopefully they update the site when they get more in stock...without PE I'm not upgrading anything else...

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

I'm hoping that I can pick up some used and probably coverless / boxless HD-DVD's of Sopranos Season 6 Part I & II and Ultimate Matrix box sets for dirt cheap on E-bay.

Still wondering if I'm going to take the plunge on this deal with my Warner HD-DVD's. Most of them are still sealed which makes me wonder why bother if I haven't even watched them once yet.

Is WB the first that's doing this? Are other studios currently doing this?

WB is the only one for now but don't be surprised if the others follow suit in the coming months.

The biggest problem is that the other studios lack Blu-Ray versions. Paramount could do okay, but Universal has so many yet to be released. We'll see how they handle it.

Paramount only has 2 titles left that are HD DVD exclusive (Anchorman and that Nicole Kidman film...name escapes me). Universal has 80 or so titles (some of which may never come out in Blu-ray).

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

WELL...I missed the 6.95 S/H the first look so I guess I didnt really get that good of a deal after all. I purchased 300 HD for 5.95 at Half Price Books so my upgrade is 11.95 at a total of 17.88. Its been cheaper so I didnt really get a deal but I cant return 300 now.

So does this mean that sending in the paper slip from the Complete Matrix won't work (I'd rather send that in than the cover to Revolutions... I haven't even opened the set yet... )

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

I just upped my:

Jailhouse Rock
Viva Las Vegas
Christmas Vacation
Return to House on Haunted Hill

For $27.99 total (w/shipping, tax, etc.) Not bad. 4 BDs for $7.50 a piece!

When I get some more money I plan to up my Blade Runner than I'm done converting my WB HD-DVD titles except for Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (2005, not on BD yet) and Terminator 3 (which IS on BD, but not on the list for some reason)

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

Seems like a good deal. I'm still buying HD DVD's. Often less then SD titles. I have a number that I have bought for $5.00 or less. So for another $5.00 I could get the BD version. Interesting....
