At this point, I may go with a disc only Walmart edition for $20 just to save the shelf space.

Lately, the single disc exclusives have all been in-store only. The only version of Se7en listed on the website is the digibook, but the non-digibook version is an in-store exclusive.

And same thing with The Exorcist as well....

I sure hope this turns out to be the case....I'd be thrilled to buy a non-box set, plain case version of The Goonies on Tuesday morning at Walmart...

No reports of a Walmart version. Someone on blu-ray.com asked for it earlier this morning and didn't find one.

The disc inside the box set does come in its own BD case.

Walmart nor Target near me got the ultimate box. I just went ahead and ordered it from Amazon. The movie will go in the shelf with all the other movies and the box will either end up on a bookshelf or closet to be safe from baby hands.

i saw at Walmart (in Blu-ray) section, some version with a game. looked like an oversized, thick DVD case. didn't inspect too closely, but price was maybe $29.99?

Wonder if that was the DVD version since that one is $29.99 on their website. Cant wait for mine to show up tomorrow so i can dig into it. Major Goonie since it came out when I was 8.

Re: The Goonies Rumor - 11/17/09 (Target Exclusive)

I picked this up today at Best Buy. Not sure if its really worth the price. But I'm just buying two more movies this year (Tremors and Avatar), so what the hell.

After opening it up, I have to say that the outer box is gorgeous and the storyboard cards and magazines are pretty nice too. I used to have the souvenir magazine from 1985, but I recently lost it. So its nice to have it back (even if its much smaller).

Having said that, WTF is up with the board game? If they had left it out, the box could have been shorter and thinner. I could have kept it on the shelf. Instead, its been banished to the closet.

Who knows how accurate this is, but a member on blu-ray.com stopped in their local Movie Gallery and was told they would be receiving a standard version in January. I want this movie, but no way will I pay $35 for it. Paying more for this over Inception? Nah...

Numerous pictures of the packaging/contents, but not a single screenshot.

Re: The Goonies Rumor - 11/17/09 (Target Exclusive)

As said in the review, if this was a stand-alone release, there's really no reason not to upgrade. The picture quality isn't the finest looking catalogue title out there, but it's still quite a bit better than the DVD, and there isn't any digital tampering mucking things up. As far as screenshots go, you could probably just look at the numerous screenshots on the web from the UK version as from what I can tell with my eye, this release looks pretty similar to that... but I can't really say for certain considering I don't own the UK release.

That being said, both the UK and the US releases both have a VC-1 encode. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same. They even used Dolby TrueHD for this 'new' release, when Warner has been using DTS-HD for a while now.

Re: The Goonies Rumor - 11/17/09 (Target Exclusive)

Our Wal Mart didn't have it, he looked it up online and it said "not available in stores." He even suggested I go to Best Buy.

The first guy I talked to there hadn't even heard of it, he asked me if it was "a TV show or something." :-/

Re: The Goonies Rumor - 11/17/09 (Target Exclusive)

I didnt watch the whole movie yet on blu but the first 15 mins I watched is definitely the best the film has ever looked. I saw it when it came out in '85, vhs, dvd and now blu and i am glad I upgraded. As for the box of junk, its not bad for die hard fans. It would have been way better to have a an actual replica map, dabloon and copper bones rather than the board game. Guess there is always the 30th anniversary release which I will buy too if it has more junk available

I couldn't find a "regular" version of the film and ended up getting the "bored" game edition. After looking through all that yuck, I tossed everything but the disc into the bin.

A single disc release in a few months with an added slipcover. I'd bet anything on it.

If you want screenshots...

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Go...y/1579/#Review

I'm going to bet it's the same video encode as the UK disc.

Re: The Goonies Rumor - 11/17/09 (Target Exclusive)

Our Best Buy was out. I was a little pissed because I had a 30% of BR coupon I thought was only good for this weekend (and forgot to ask for a rain check). Turns out my coupon is good through next weekend.

I hadn't been to BB in a while, ours has really condensed their music and video sections, both are now in the space that used to be just music. I don't know if that means less selection or more efficient use of space but like I said, I wasn't happy they didn't have the Goonies BR in stock.

I believe that coupon is only good for BD's $34.99 and under (The Goonies is $44.99).
