no, this is the epitome of greedy.

I have no doubt that eventually we will get a cleaned up version of the original, unaltered trilogy.

But this way, he releases the updated versions, and people without self control will buy them. Then, when offered the versions they really want, they will buy them again. More people will bitch, yet still buy, the current blurays than bitch and hold off.

Really? I can't see this ever happening, but I hope I'm wrong.

I remember back when the OOTs were released as "bonus" discs in non-anamorphic format, there was an e-mail campaign aimed at getting a rethinking of this. The canned response came back thet they are not part of George's "vision", and would not be released in any format other than the garbage 4x3 letterboxed transfers from LD.

My thoughts exactly. He can re-release them until the end of time for all I care. Give me the chance to buy a nice copy of the OOT and I'll be happy.

re: Star Wars

I used to think that Lucas would release the OOT fully restored, but after seeing the sales of the BluRay set, he knows that fans will buy anything he puts out. Trust me, I was one of those people who boycotted the BluRay set (still haven't bought it), but in the end, it didn't make a difference as the set broke BluRay sales records (Lucas is probably laughing at fans like me). Lucas looks at the numbers and justifies in his mind that it would be a waste of time to release the OOT. The only way he was ever going to release the OOT the right way is if fans didn't buy the SE version and sales were terrible.

As I have said before, Lucas could physically take a dump on the movies and people would still buy them saying, "Of course they smell like shit, but they're still Star Wars!"

He can do whatever he wants at this point. Working on a tip, I found HD conversions of the largely-unaltered original trilogy. That works for me. If he ever decides he wants my money, he knows how to get it.

Please don't give him any ideas for a "May the Fecal Be With You" edition...

Sad to think Star Wars would ever become the new Song of the South.

^No way. The Original Trilogy consisted of 2 great movies and 1 OK movie. SONG OF THE SOUTH is fucking awful, except for the animated sequences, and those are few and far in between.

I meant in regards to bootlegging the film, as it is basically the only way to see it unaltered anymore, unless you still have a VCR lying around.

re: Star Wars

I remember this video store I used to go to in college had "editions" of the Holiday Special and Song of the South for rent. Never got around to seeing them, but I was surprised that they would do so.

There is this thing called a DVD player. I think they have them at Sears.

Just revise it later, as Lucas would do.

The RedLetterMedia website has a good two-part interview with "The People Vs. George Lucas" director Alexandre O. Phillippe, wherein he and the hosts of "Half in the Bag" discuss the Blu-ray release. Here's a link to part one:

re: Star Wars

A bunch of people who want the Original films remastered for Blu Ray should organize an "Occupy" Lucasfilm in San Francisco hahahaha

Only if you count the Boba Fett cartoon from the Holiday Special. It's accessible from the menu though, not hidden like normal easter eggs. Adam Gregorich at HTF checked with Lucasfilm and they said the Fett cartoon was it. They could have done more than that.

re: Star Wars

I've been meaning to drag this thread out myself: been wondering how people are liking this set? Are the deleted scenes all that or are there still too many missing?

I'm still kinda keeping my eyes open for a used set...

Besides the hidden Boba Fett Cartoon, the two Ewok movies, the complete Droids cartoon series, and the complete Ewok cartoon series?
