49% share is a new record, but it's actually less impressive than the 44% week from the first Avengers movie, since that week was $88 million and this time it's only $64 million, even though both movies have approximately the same box office power. DVD doing relatively bad is what's responsible for the high share.
The last month or two Blu-ray has been gaining market share on DVD, after a full year of no gain at all, but again, it's mainly because DVD sales seem to have taken a sharp downward turn lately.

I'm not really into anime but I know that genre has rabid fans who are obsessive collectors and it's good to see that they got Dragon Ball Z in the top 5. I guess there's no DVD-only release of Aladdin? (Not that it matters as I'll never buy an altered version of it, though I have the laserdisc that someone gave me. Buying a new movie on DVD right now is the same as buying new movies on laserdisc in 1999, maybe even less so.)

Table below shows Blu-ray/DVD sales the last six weeks vs. the first 36 weeks of the year. Blu-ray bottomed out at -16.8% at week 36, but starting with Furious 7 week and onward is up 28.6%.
Given the box office power, that's to be expected, but remarkably DVD has not responded well at all to the box office power. It was down 15.7% through the first 36 weeks and during the last 6 weeks it was still down -8.0%.
As a result, Blu-ray is now down only 10.5% for the year, while DVD is down 14.7%. Quite a difference from 6 weeks ago!

Market share of BF week usually mirrors the year as a whole. While the top titles get most of the attention the rest of the weeks, you can still see that the vast majority of BF sale-priced movies are still DVDs (even online). One can say that DVD releases many more titles, which is true. But the sale titles are still cherry picked, and probably only about 1 in 5 are Blu-ray.
