Well, as it might veer into spoiler territory for those that don't know their history:

Spoiler:
Malcolm X was assassinated. Considering what just happened in Arizona I'm assuming Warner Bros. decided to delay the film because it would remind people of the horrific assassination attempt that just occurred. However, I must reiterate that I am disappointed in the decision. I hope I am wrong, but I have a suspicion that this may be exactly the case.

Well I know he was assassinated but...really? I don't know if the recent event you state might be the issue..but....if it is....that's foolish. Most people don't know about X beyond angry black man during the civil rights era (which is sad cuz he sure changed before his end)

Good to hear. Now if only my order hadn't been canceled... but maybe I can get a review copy (crosses fingers).

According to The Digital Bits:

And Warner has just released a statement saying that the previously-announced 1/25 Blu-ray release of Malcolm X has been delayed because of a music clearance issue. All parties are apparently working toward a resolution, but until that happens WHV is no longer distributing the title. Hopefully, the situation will get resolved soon.

So, seriously...what's the difference in music clearance from the dvd editions to a BD edition?

I think that video would be a little bit inappropriate.

Well, if there's one thing I know, it's that IGN is a reliable source of information about Blu-rays.

I didn't. I already got Pleasantville (several days ago), so I don't think Warner even pressed these. But supplies could have been very limited.

Yeah, it seems as though they decided to just cancel it altogether for the time being. I'm not particularly happy about it (this is easily one of my most anticipated Blu-ray releases). I just hope Warner Bros resolves the rights issues soon and we aren't stuck waiting until Black History month next year.

Super. Now showing not available at bn.com, where I preordered it as a B2G1 item. I bet I'm going to have a hard time with this one.

Re: Spike Lee's 'Malcom X' 1/25/11 in digibook format

Spike Lee tweeted the following today:

"Malcolm X -BluRay has not been cancelled, just delayed. I will get release date soon. I know Y'all are gonna cop it right away. Remastered Yo"

Looks like there's still hope for this release.

What's "cop it" mean? Steal it? Have a Police Officer purchase it for me?
