The cover isn't horrible. I actually like it. But you'd think they'd use the iconic artwork they always have ; Father Merrin, framed by the streetlight, stepping up to Regan's house.

re: The Exorcist 40th Anniversary (Blu-ray) - 10/8/13

I used to live in DC, and the steps where always a fun place to visit when I was giving tours to visiting friends and family. I did draw the line when a friend who was a member of the clergy offered me his Roman collar to wear for a photo; seemed to tempt fate just a bit too much!

Never picked up any version of the film on Blu, so depending on reviews, I might have to pick this one up.

Those steps play a major role in the film's plot.

I'll keep that in mind the next time I watch it.

New cover isn't bad but I can't see myself getting this since I already have the digibook.

The previous BD had very minor issue in the image. And I never got it. Dunno if I want to wait for it or not, the new one. I've never seen the film in 1080p. And I'm in a Friedkin mood. Fuck.

The only way I was going to upgrade from the digi book was if original Warner logo would appear this time, but seeing as how Warner replaced the logo on the new Road Warrior disc (both opening & end credits) I doubt that will happen. I can't figure out why they would do that.

Wow, a logo. That's your sticking point?

It reminds me of the old days when a title previously released on LaserDisc made it's debut on DVD - and people refused to sell off the LaserDisc because everything except the trailer was ported over to DVD.

Some apparently like to watch trailers to films they already own over and over, and also fixate on studio logos. I don't get it either.

It wouldn't be a sticking point for me but I admit that i have a fondness for the older logos that first appeared on movies. Gives it that nostalgic feel of when you first saw the movie such as seeing the old visit Universal tags at the end of some of their movies. Still, I'd rather have a better looking film than one of lesser quality with the old logo.

I understand the issue with the logo. It's erasing film history by replacing it with the new. Though it doesn't kill me when it comes to the film. I just want to bitchslap the **** who thinks that's fine to do. As long as the film itself is fine, I'm fine.

To be fair, he's not refusing anything. He already owns the first blu. It's not like he's clinging to his old DVD and saying he won't make the jump to HD. He said the only way he'll upgrade to the new blu (Which may or may not be a significant upgrade. We don't know yet.) is if the original opening logo is restored. While I can't say I would ever let the opening logo prevent me from upgrading a movie I love, I get where hasslein is coming from with regards to double dipping on what might end up being a non-upgrade.

Oh, and that old Saul Bass WB logo is super cool.

Yeah, the opening of the film is very eerie with the old logo, sets the mood right off the bat, the new bright shiny logo ruins the effect. And as rocket said, I have a very good transfer on BD already. If Warner wants me to dip again, this is what needs to happen. I'm not the only one screaming it, check other forums, this is an easy fix, I don't know why they refuse to do it.

And see I don't remember that. I think I first saw it on DVD. I may have just gotten the new logo. Maybe I rented it on VHS. it's changing history. That's fucked up. Does it destroy the actual film? No. But it does change it, just by a little. And that little matters if we're talking about history.

If this set gets good enough reviews I'll probably pick it up. I'm sure it's popular for a reason.
Eight years really wasn't that long ago. And this really shouldn't have to do being impressed with the film. Those stairs played a huge part of the story. Especially one of the very last scenes. Also want to chime in that I prefer the old WB logo but think this new cover is a welcome and fresh change. Especially for a landmark anniversary release. It's very haunting.

re: The Exorcist 40th Anniversary (Blu-ray) - 10/8/13

I found it. Sorry, should have looked up first.

The house is at 3600 Prospect Street, Georgetown, Washington DC and the steps are from Prospect Street to M Street.

Eight years is over a third of my life. I am 22 now. I literally do not care at all how upset you or anyone else is that I don't recognize those stairs.
