TV spots can be fun as well, especially when they really get you pumped up for the film. So they can be nostalgic as you remember first seeing these previews and getting excited for the upcoming release and remembering the hype and everything. Independence Day and Die Hard With A Vengeance are two such films I fondly recall the exciting trailers/tv spots aired at the time of release, and it's great to have them available on dvd at least.
As for the original !970's Warner logo. I admit, it does add to the atmosphere of the films it was used on. For one, it is nostalgia and also film history and is annoying when that is changed. At least Universal usually includes the older logos to their catalog releases, even if they sometimes put the new logo at the front and I have no problem with that. Warner on the other hand seems to be dicks when it comes to past logos and have no problems erasing them from existence which is a shame.
In terms of the atmosphere of the logo. I have the original vhs and rare edited R release of A Clockwork Orange. And it was the first time seeing the film with the original logo intact. And I must say, it really was eerie as the logo moves onto the screen and the creepy score of the film plays over it and then the credits begin.
So while omitting the old logos is not a deal breaker in purchasing a film. It is a shame when studios decide to alter the past and brush it under the rug as if it's not important.

Trailers are interesting as a record of how a movie was marketed (or mis-marketed). Some trailers convey a tone that's completely different than the actual movie.

some are going to complain
http://whysoblu.com/the-exorcist-40t...lu-ray-review/
per the review, discs 1 & 2 are EXACTLY THE SAME as the original blu, meaning no new remaster was done, & the 3rd disc is about 45 minutes worth of footage

The packaging is really nice, WB didn't cheap out on it. I would only really recommend it if one didn't buy the first digibook edition.

The eco-case isn't as bad here, at least from a practical perspective. Though it seems funny to cheap out on the case when the eco-unfriendly slipcover and book are also included, at least those protect the case and discs from shipping damage.

Glad I held off pre-ordering this, as I suspected this "40th Anniv" edition would be nothing but a cash grab. Shame, shame! What a waste.

I'm just speculating here, but at the screening I'm seeing (with another DVDTalk member) at the end of the month - this edition might be given out with the ticket purchase. (of course I could be entirely wrong), but there's a 'special' departing gift ... hmmm. (the mind reels)
well actually that supposes that everyone in attendance has a bluray player - um, no.
wonder what it could be ???

Forgot I ordered this as well. What's the difference between this and the previous Digibook?

According to Rypro 525 on Post #54, via whosoblu.com,
"per the review, discs 1 & 2 are EXACTLY THE SAME as the original blu, meaning no new remaster was done, & the 3rd disc is about 45 minutes worth of footage"
I'm glad I opted not to get thisas the first release suits me just fine.

What makes you think the parting gift will be anything other than a cheap poster or a few lobby cards?

I'd actually prefer a poster with the possibility of getting it signed by Friedkin and Blatty who will be in attendance. But you're right, expecting the newly released blu-ray is quite optimistic. Still fun to speculate.
