Kingdom Of Heaven - 10th Anniversary Edition 10/07/14

Per blu-raycom. 3 cuts, but no official specs yet, so I have no idea if we're getting that big ass comprehensive making of. I'm wondering if this Roadshow version will be a new edit. But I am scratching my head at the "10th Anniversary Edition" since this came out in 2005.

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Kingdo...lu-ray/110555/

Includes All 3 Versions: The Director's Cut, The Director's Cut Roadshow Version, And The Original Theatrical Version / Blu-ray + Digital Copy + UltraViolet

Roadshow version is the DC with an intermission.

I'm hoping it carries over all the extras from the DC DVD set, so I can retire that and the current Blu-Ray...

The description at dvdempire:

Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of visionary director Sir Ridley Scott's cinematic masterpiece with this 2-Disc Blu-ray Edition that includes all three versions of the film - the Director's Cut, Director's Cut Roadshow Version and Original Theatrical Version - all presented in high definition, plus over nine hours of in-depth special features, including a full-length documentary that takes you on the path from pre-production to release. A truly legendary cast leads this visually spectacular epic, including Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, Liam Neeson and Academy Award-Winner Jeremy Irons. Bloom stars as Balian, a young blacksmith who has lost his family and his faith. But when his father (Neeson) reveals his destiny, Balian joins the heroic fight to protect his people from overwhelming forces, and rises to knighthood.
Please be accurate...

I pulled out my DVD set and blu. So, as you said it looks like the DVD set, labeled "Director's Cut", has music before the beginning credits and an intermission. So I'm guessing this will be relabeled as the Roadshow Cut, and the blu ray release will remain as the Director's Cut.

Just an intermission? No added footage to the DC at all?

I'll stick my current DC version.

Hopefully, it'll roll all of the extras in from previous editions to save money. But I worry that's too much to hope for.

If that's all it is then I'll either wait until it's super cheap or just skip it all together. I absolutely love the DC and own it on Blu but the theatrical cut is extremely mediocre and I can't see myself ever watching it again. As much as I'd like the special features to be in HD, I'm content enough with the DVD version for the supplements.

Yeah, the theatrical cut is useless since it is so inferior to the dc. I will be double dipping on this since it is one of my favorite films of all time.

That's correct, the roadshow version is included on the Italian BD and it is the Director's Cut with an overture, intermission, and entr'acte. It is Ridley Scott's preferred version of the film, but there's no new footage.

assuming the extras are in 480p (cause it was circa 2005) they can easily fit all of the extras from the 3 discer on one blu ray

Yes. No overlap unless the content within some features was the same. The features for the TC focused more on the reaility behind the crusades and the DC features focused more on the making of the movie.

The theatrical cut was a mess. The Director's Cut is a big improvement that upgrades a bad movie to "pretty decent." Unfortunately, Orlando Bloom is still badly miscast. That's a problem no amount of extra footage can overcome.

Agreed. I liked the movie (DC version) just fine, but if they cast it with someone better than Bloom, someone with some gravitas, then it would've been a much, much better movie. Legolas really drags it down, especially since he's in almost every scene.

I plan to keep my current DC and will likely pass on this. This latest release is a good opportunity for someone to pick up a copy of this if they don't already have one.

I wonder how well the original release holds up now, in a technical sense. It was encoded with MPEG-2 and released in the first year of the format. Maybe it could use a remaster.

The original BD had no features. the TC DVD had features?

I'm pretty damn sure that that BD looks fine but it has been a long time since that thing was made. There is room for improvement.

The BD I have (Director's Cut) had TERRIBLE compression issues during many scenes, so I'm holding out until somebody else actually reviews it. Not sure why it got such great video ratings on some sites. Maybe I got a bad copy.

Well, it was released in November of 2006, about 6 months after the format debuted. Most reviews you are going to find were written then, so they were rating it against other titles of the time.

it may have. But then a few months later they released a 4 disc dvd set with 2 discs full of extras, a commentary by Scott & others. The old blu just had the DC, no extras

I reviewed the Director's Cut when it was released in 2006. I noted some color banding and edge ringing, but thought it looked very good overall at the time. I haven't watched it again since and can't say how it holds up to current standards.

As some of us will remember, the Blu-ray format's first year was filled with many terrible, terrible releases. An even moderately decent-looking disc felt like a revelation in comparison to the other crap the studios were shoveling out.
