My German is limited to what I learned in school. I wish I knew more as the bonus disc looks superb I still managed to get a little bit out of it though, for example, there is a section that shows photo comparisons between the actors in the film and the real-life characters they played, the virtual bunker was fairly fun to explore too.

I can get by - usually well enough to get through a feature film, although I make no claims to understanding every last nuance! In the past few years I've done quite a bit of work in Germany, so have had to get reasonably au fait with the language.

The bonus disc certainly sounds good - I just found the feature so draining that I thought I'd leave disc 2 for some other time... it's a really nice package, anyway, and I'm quite pleased with it for the price.

Finally received my copy from CD-Wow yesterday. Didn't get a chance to watch it yet, but the package is quite nice!

Ordered mine from CD-Wow, but thought it was strange that only the Premium Edition would have English subs. Can't wait!

Just got information that the Danish DVD release will be a complete copy of the German 2-Disc Premium Edition.

No word whether the Danish 2-Disc will have English subtitles on the Bonus features or not. Sandrew Metronome will issue the DVD in August/September.

It sure looks that way from the article you have linked. I assume though they will drop the English subs and add up the Scandinavian ones /Danish, Swedish, etc....

Yes, it looks that way, Pro-B.

Maybe, either Region 2UK, Region 4 or even Region 1 will get the same 2-Disc treatment. Surely, that info will be revealed very soon.

I hardly think the Danes will be the only ones to get the same version as the Germans.

Mine just came in from Deutschland. I just realized that it is playing at the theater 2 blocks down the road. The title "Downfall" threw me off...

Got it yesterday. Watched it yesterday. Good flick. Bad ass sound. It's the Premium edition w/ subs. If anyone wants it, I'll sell it (opened, watched once) for $20 (that's $17 for the flick and $3 for media mail to a continental US address). Send an email to [email protected] if interested.

R1 release scheduled for 8/2:

It's not clear if the transfer is anamorphic.

The R1 will be anamorphic

Only thing that bugs me a bit about the German R2 is the double subtitles during the brief Russian dialogue - but not enough for me to want to lose the glorious DTS soundtrack.

Not worth switching yet anyway - will do that when the extended version comes out.

I can't see the German disc being beaten by any other release. OK, lack of subtitles on the extras is a negative but not for me as I don't bother with them.

The image + dts is why I'll be keeping the disc.

Channel 4 has bought the broadcast rights to the film for an Autumn (or earlier) release on their new Freeview channel. Not usre if it'll be the extended version or not.

Any word yet on the content of the upcoming R2 UK release? I'm wondering if it's going to be more like that of the R2 Germany or the R1.

So the R2 Germany set has a monopoly on the DTS track?

I wonder what the subtitles are like. If it's one thing that always worries me about Asian discs, it's the English subtitles - they're often (not always) full of typos and poorly translated.

I won't be reviewing it. The copy that Geoff sent I am fairly certain is the US R1 version.
