I think it's awesome, but I guess you have to be more of horror fan than a sci-fi fan to enjoy it.

Love the chest and the covers. How sturdy is it? No dents in shipping I take it.

It cost $210 with shipping. Its shipping in a cardboard box, the chest is a tin roughly the thickness of the tins that are sold here (Star Wars, Kong (1933), etc.)

i dont know about you but where possible i leave all shrinkwrap on boxes. if i can make a slit to get the discs out then i leave it on. otherwise the case or tin just gets grubby.

does anyone look on dvdtherapy.com? and the importforums on there. its the best for worldwide limited editions.

I'd not leave shrinkwrap on for too long because the chemicals in it will react to cardbord/metal eventually. They have to as that's their job chemically.

Ouch! But I have to admit, that is a beautiful boxset, they need to release it in the United States, I am very jealous that other regions get nice stuff while the United States get either shitty stuff or nothing

I'm always a fan of original poster art, so that Disney set looks nice. I wish the Platinum titles had classier art, because they look just about like every other Disney movie on the shelf.

Why do they need to release it in the States?

You're in the int'l forum - that's gotta say something, right? This would end your circumstances perfectly: http://www.world-import.com/pioneer-dvd.htm

<- Of course that is not the only resource for players.

There's absolutely no need not to enjoy releases from around the world that are now no further from your fingertips .. and the right player .......

Well that clears that one up then...Visitor Q...what WERE you thinking?

Going by the title of this thread, I thought I'd be able to get everything I see here down at the local service station. My bad I guess.

Wait a minute are you guys saying I can't get that Disney set at my local Best Buy? Well fuck me, how embarassing! For months now I've seen great stuff here and I've always ended up arguing at BestBuy, WalMart and 7-11 insisting I'd see these DVD sets on an American forum and as an American I should have access to these DVDs.

If that's the case then there should be an Outer Space forum because if the DVDs aren't in America then they're no good to Americans.

What's that you say?, the Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French and it was made in France? What's the world America coming to!

Anyway, it's a beautiful set JoeyOhhhh. Enjoy it. I'd be curious to know more about the contents of each, like whether the Snow White is comparable to the Platinum Edition released in R1. The copyrights for these films are not very well protected in some Asian countries. The special presentation may be a way of enticing people to buy the legitimate releases. Although, the pricetag for this set would not appeal to the masses.

When I get a chance, I will upload shots comparing the US versions to the versions in this set (atleast the US versions I have).

I think this really only applies to China/Malyasia/Hong Kong - Japan is in line with US/Europe and they pay handsomely for their dvds!

The video quality of each is exactly the same as the region 1 counterparts. Interestingly enough, Melody Time and Fantasia seem to be different edits, atleast going by the time code for each title.

Melody Time was released uncut in R4 Australia. Perhaps that is the version included. Check and see if Fantasia includes any of the famous cuts.

Wow .. didn't mean to stir up a patriotic hornet's nest!!!

The interesting part is .. the studios that one "would be" purchasing from overseas are the exact same one's that are exporting to those foreign locations but profitting here at home, in America, which I am citizen of. Those same studios just happen to release different editions respectively to whichever market they will sell in. But .. whichever angle that one would like to take .......

Anyway .. back to the sick limited edition thread that everyone has a chance to participate in .............

Damn, I have good editions of all these but I may have to buy that and the R1 Oldboy tin coming out. It's funny that my current set is R1 Mr. Vengeance, R2 Oldboy and R3 Lady Vengeance.
